i didn’t grow up on the mcu or the comics so i had no idea who the supporting characters were supposed to be. the “i remember that” factor really just flew over my head and i assumed that either i missed something or the movie just didn’t explain anything about those characters on purpose.
when “deadpool vs wolverine” was announced, i just assumed that logan must have not been canon. then when the movie set up its multiple universes storyline i was left dumbfounded. even after they explained the multiple universes plot, i couldn’t believe that deadpool, the movie that was making fun of that trope literally 2 minutes ago, would base the plot of their movie on it.
i still enjoyed watching it because deadpool and wolverine are the only two “heroes” i really know and i liked how they interacted but i think its pretty telling that that’s the main reason i can say i enjoyed that movie.

While I don’t think the movie is as bad as you make it out to be I get where you’re coming from. I personally loved the movie when I watched it but as I’ve dwelled over the movie again after a few days one compliant I do have is that there’s not enough of those serious scenes like with Logan and Laura cause it would’ve benefited a lot from scenes similar to it, I honestly liked that scene in this film since it gave meaning to Logan wearing the iconic suit even tho it’s obviously fan service, to me it felt impactful showing how much it means to him now knowing what happened to the X-men plus it would’ve been nice if we got a scene where Deadpool and Logan had a scene like that together as I feel it would’ve added a lot more to the film and their overall relationship.
Overall (even tho it could’ve been better for sure) I still had a fun time watching it but I can still understand your point of view on the movie as a whole and I respect it.

Wonderfully put- literally described most of my feelings in one video. I posted a little comment on tiktok of me not enjoying this film as much as others were, and was dragged lmao.
I think my main issue with this film is that it has an arc of wanting to be more important and better, but the core argument of that arc gets lost after cameo and cameo, that even when those cameos become supporting characters, it feels weightless and meaningless, because truly; what did blade add to the story? elektra or gambit? Laura is meant to motivate logan, but like you pointed out, it just didn't feel deserved.
Also peters whole 'arc' in this should've been given to dopinder, what do you mean every deadpool has a peter, but not a dopinder???

I think your assessment is pretty spot-on. A lot of people dont want to admit to themselves that all that really affected them during the movie-watching experience was the feeling of recognition for something they enjoyed in their childhoods. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. That's probably where the MCU is going to head now that returns are down (see casting RDJ as Dr. Doom as an example).

@@AidanRiveraCommentary Me personally, I like the comedy and jokes even if it isn't for you. A 4th wall break character I really like no matter what situation it is. I do really agree how he randomly dragged in another Wolverine that was a copy & paste and how suddenly the timeline was better after some emotional moment. I would prefer if he went on some quest to get wolverine back or something.

  • @Brandon-ng3lk
    @Brandon-ng3lk 2 місяці тому +1

I don't know. Spoilers btw. To a certain degree I get it, if this was something that you've been looking forward for a long time I can see why you might be disappointed by the lack of character development, or how some characters were left out from previous installments, but I had fun with this movie. And at the same time, every ad I've ever seen about this movie did not give off the vibe that this movie was going to have a deep plot or a lot of character development, but more that it was two actors who really wanted to have fun and make a movie together, and that's exactly what I got from that movie. When it comes to wolverine's character development, we already got that over the past twenty years or so, so I'm sure the lack thereof in this movie was in an attempt to spare the audience of retelling the same story again. However, if you were new to the character, I can see why this would be frustrating.
Also with Laura and Wolverine, I never get the indication that Laura sees the new Logan as a father figure and replaced him. It seems more to me that at most she sees him as a friend at end the film. When she speaks to wolverine before they team up she speaks of her Logan as a separate person, as someone she couldn't replace, and is just trying to impart some of what he represented on to him.
I also have to disagree with the lack of confidence with the writing thing when he makes fun of the multiverse. In this situation I think context is really important, and I think that joke is more of a insult to Disney than anything else. I'm sure if Disney wasn't around, Ryan, Hugh, and Shawn would've avoided it entirely. In your review you excused the Disney CGI crew of their problems without acknowledging that the writing crew were under similar expectations of making the movie conform to the MCU, which is something that I think needs to be recognized, especially with projects like this where the goal isn't just to expand the MCU for future movies.
Some criticisms I agree with, like the action being a bit lackluster compared to the previous films, or the cameos and references being a bit heavy, and as someone who has not seen many of the movies/shows where many characters make a appearance I found to be a little annoying and the thing holding it back the most. They expect you to know a lot about the x-men and marvel movies in order to understand references or character motivations. The biggest one that comes to mind was Wolverine trying to convince Cassandra about how her Charles was such a good guy, a character that never appears on screen.
Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion and if you didn't like the movie you didn't like it and that's fair. I found it fun for what is was, and while I wouldn't put it on for the plot, I would put it on for the comedy and fun action.

For Deadpool fans and general movie goers this movie is disappointing. It wasn’t made for them and they are not wrong to dislike it. Their criticisms are valid and anyone who says otherwise is blind. But for people who grew up with the fox superhero movies this movie is great. Now that the fox merger happened all those movies are never gonna happen again. It was so fun for me because I am one of the people from the latter group, but I understand that it’s all nostalgia bait. Rip fox superhero movies.

While i agree that the movie has a lot of plot holes so that are world breaking. I gotta be honest i dont really care about em as 1st the multiverse saga is full of plot holes like that where every new project intrudes some new multiverse rule only for the next thing to break it. and 2nd a comprehensive world building story isnt what i came to see this movie for i came here to see Ryan and Hugh be on screen together and the movie does have heart mainly coming from Hughs performance.

I get what you're saying but I think you're misunderstanding meta-humour for plot holes. Yes there are plot holes, but they are there on purpose, as commentary on the current state of the MCU. This is why most movies don't really go crazy with breaking the fourth wall, it's hard to execute well. I think this movie did a great job and here's why. In this movie, the TVA is Disney. The void is full of all the acquisitions, characters, franchises, and spin-offs that Disney has abandoned. This story is not about a group of misfits fighting for something, this movie is about how Ryan Reynolds fought for this movie, and the challenges filmmakers overcome when dealing with studios. Hence the name of the main antagonist: Paradox.

That’s fair but I think that if a movie is gonna levy such heavy criticism and a satirical tone toward something else, it should have its own two feet to stand on and unfortunately it feels like Deadpool is standing on his baby legs in this one

Imagine reviewing a sequel movie harshly for fanservice. Wolverine was never a character in this movie, he was a mcguffin. This is deadpool's journey and the story is not about Deadpool and wolverine on a buddy-cop road trip, this is a movie about the movies themselves, the characters in the void have all been parts of failed movies (or dead franchises) and the journey is a love note/send-off for the fox-marvel universe, which is essentially ended.
