    This is how all video lessons should be done. Play thru once, demonstrate with tab on screen, show, variations at end. Other YTers talk and describe too much when we can just watch the video, tab helps to confirm it, and you can slow the vid down. Kudos, sir!

      Thanks! I agree with you; unfortunately, a lot of people seem to like the over-explained tutorials so mine never caught on.

    Hi Richard I am a late comer to the world of ukulele and especially this technique which I am proud to say have started to get on top off. Very much thanks to your videos which have inspired me. I recently brought a banjolele and love practicing this tune, thanks to a forgiving wife. Many thanks.

    I feel like a kid on Christmas. I didn't know if you were still uploading videos and when I woke up and saw this, it put a big smile on my face. You've taught me so much and I started with your basic clawhammer tutorials. I practice My Dog Has Fleas, Railroad Bill, and Bobby Magee everyday. I'd been looking for Cripple Creek tab and couldn't have hoped to get it from a better source.
    Though not clawhammer, I also really enjoyed Deep Purple and was wondering who the original author was. I tried to Google it but failed to find anything on the song.
    Thanks so much for everything Richard!!! You're the best. You'll never know how much your music, videos, and tutorials have meant to me. Please keep them coming!
    Metta to you.

      Thanks so much for that Scamp Torkenfish! I've got a thousand songs I'd like to do but for some reason I never get around to it. The kind comments keep me pumped up so I really appreciate it! By the way, Deep Purple was written as an instrumental back in 1933 by Peter DeRose. Mitchell Parish added the lyrics in 1938.

    Richard, I just found you last week and have really enjoyed your lessons. I am now enjoying clawhammer more than any other style I have attempted. Thank you so much! Question to Richard or anyone who can help. During the singing, Richard provides chords and plays a clawhammer patttern that I just can't figure out. At first I thought it was from his "drop thumb" lesson but now I don't think so. Can anyone clarify? Thanks

    • @RichardHefner
      @RichardHefner  2 роки тому +1

      Glad you're enjoying the lessons! During the verses where I was singing I was just playing a straight bum-ditty with no drop thumb. It was pretty much just 3rd string followed by a "ditty" if that makes sense... nothing fancy.

  • @misspugsley41216
    @misspugsley41216 4 роки тому +3

    Can anyone elaborate on what he's doing during the verses? I know it's clawhammer, but what's the exact fingering pattern, and what are those transitional notes he adds between switching chords? (newbie here, lol)

    what is the finger pattern for the verse part?
    Is it just the boom diddy thing? point finger, then strum, then thumb? but then there is like a hammer part? Its impossible for me to tell in slow motion and my musical ears aren't good enough to hear whats happening.

    • @wayneconrad9955
      @wayneconrad9955 4 роки тому +2

      Yes, it's the "bum ditty" thing, a right-hand technique borrowed from clawhammer banjo. The basic motion is: A quarter-note downstroke with the nail of a bent-under finger (index or middle, picker's choice) on a string fretting a melody note, then an eighth-note strum of one or more strings, during which the thumb comes to rest on the top string, then an eighth-note pluck with the thumb on that top string. There are many variations on this, but that's the basics. With the basic stroke, you get a melody note on the 1, and then a chord on the 2 and 2-and, and then a melody note on the 3, and then a chord on the 4 and 4-and. I hope this makes sense.
