The conversation about the contemporary influences of Stephen has me reeling. I can hear both "This Guy's In Love With You" and "I Feel The Earth Move" in "Magic To Do." And I thought I couldn't love Stephen Schwartz any more than I already did. This interview is amazing. He is such a dear!
Stephen is always evolving as a writer, and that is one of the many reasons we admire him so greatly! We are thrilled you enjoyed their conversation, Bonnie.
Steven Swartz I love his performances even though he don't write as many he awesome composter and lyricist Love to see the Broadway show working in 1972 in play house square
@26:00 Writing is like driving at night in the fog. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way. E. L. Doctorow Great life advice/acknowledgement/realization - & could be a great song.
Funny to hear Steve Schwartz say that Leonard Bernstein is the closest thing to a mentor ever. I was in the original cast of MASS. People either got Lenny or didn't. Those that did had an experience like nothing that could ever be described. To this day, all the time I spent with Lenny was the most influential of my life. I feel like the man knew more about everything than anyone I've ever met.
I found a Tim Galloway book a few years back called the inner game of music. It's a great book and I probably will read it again soon. Thanks for the great interview!
Thanks for this clip... I love Stephen Schwartz and his production in Vienna. "Schikaneder-The Musical", I have seen it for ten times. I miss it every hour and hope it will come back on stage soon. I am from Austria, but if "Schikaneder" will return on stage I will com back to see it again and again.
Lol, Stephen keeps a framed photo of his caricature on South Park. He should have showed up to the door to great Jeanine wearing a black "^ Chick Seat" T-shirt.
This is such a cool video to watch as someone who wants to write musicals. Just as a writer in general, I have never heard advice quite as helpful.
smileysurvivor101 how's the writing going, what are you working on?
What a generous man without a trace of guile. Thank you Mr Schwartz.
I love that a picture that I took of him is on his wall. :-)
He is extremely inspirational and kind.

Inspiring not only around music but the creative process
Now I want to hear everything from Stephen
Stephen is so cool! It would be so fun to just hang out with him.
Thank you for uploading this insightful and entertaining interview. So much useful information here - very rewarding.
This advice is so relatable - thank you! The song at the end had me in tears - I haven't heard that one before.
I love this. Thank you!
Such a treat. Thanks for sharing!
You don't have to be a composer to get something from this.
Regardless of you creative pursuit, this video is a much watch.
Wonderful- wise person!
Beautiful. The romance of theatre.
Great interview.
The hostess glanced over Mr. Schwartz's comment, "...that Bob [Fosse] is looking up from somewhere and laughing...." That is a loaded comment.
@jearl Nix - he's probably running the place.
Yes! In every way, YES!!
Stephen Schwartz I enjoy your prefaces
Tesori is almost as prolific at this point.
She's probably the closest we have to Sondheim, imo
There don't seem to be captions available for this?
They should be available now. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Amy.
