- Today I'm building up my GMMK Pro! I took this opportunity to try out one of the most popular mods right now!

Great video brother, i'm thinking of doing this mod but i'm not sure if I should take the foam out like you did, does it make that much of a difference?
Thank you! I always recommend testing out multiple configurations to find a sound that you really like, but when it comes to the GMMK Pro I really think the case foam makes for an overall worse sound and feel for the entire thing. The plate foam is a much more personal choice. Personally, I tend to not like it much on deeper builds.
For folks going 50% screw tightness, I'd recommend using Loctite 222 threadlocker. This will help retain the torsion applied to the screws
Love this build, as well as the theme. Great job!
Thank you so much!
awesome, sounds really good
Thank you! I need to make a follow up video for this. I've gone even further with it while impatiently waiting for other boards to arrive.
I wish you had the a sound test comparing before and after.
Yeah I kind of wish I got it as well. I've been doing more comparisons in recent videos, though. You live and learn I guess haha
is using the foam that comes w/ the keyboard completely fine or do i have to buy new foam?
You run the risk of shorting your PCB with the foam that comes with the keyboard because it’s not ESD protected, but I and many others have successfully used the included foam. Be careful and know the risks, but you don’t HAVE to buy new foam
@@thesurgeonkeebs9857 could i ask, how can you short the pcb? im assuming if you rub the foam against the pcb and then it creations friction, then itll short it?
@@jjjjjjj111 Yeah just don't rub it all over a mouse pad or your carpet or anything and let it build up a static charge haha.
Ijust got one of these for 50% off, which makes it a good deal again imo. Trying this mod as I'm typing!
Ya know, for half price it starts to sound like a good deal again. Congrats on the build! How'd it turn out?
@@thesurgeonkeebs9857 I ordered some tweezers and lube kit for 15 bucks off Amazon to fix and bandaid mod the stabs, they were decent but I think I can fix the rattle. Will update after they get here tommorow
@@thesurgeonkeebs9857 I finished the build! It turned out amazing, this video helped a lot! ua-cam.com/video/eVPXDD-PSZA/v-deo.html
Where'd you get it for that price?

Should I use the PE foam from the box or order my own? Have you had problems?
I just used the foam from the box! I’ve had no problems at all after the couple of wonky switches from the initial installation. While, technically, the foam in the box isn’t ESD, if you’re not rubbing your socks on the carpet and rubbing the foam on the PCB you shouldn’t have any problems 😂
Pe foam or tape mod?
nice keyboard
You actually want to use NON-ESD PE foam. This is a common misconception.
The "static discharge" occurs because the foam is conductive, you want to use non-conductive foam to avoid shorting PCB components.
A year later and I was still confused by this. Thank you for this!
personally i can just use layers for f rows so i went with the qk65 cuz its ~$170
Yeah, nowadays I 100% agree with you. The market has caught up, and the GMMK Pro is almost entirely outdated. The QK65 has been my daily driver since I got it. I like the 75% layout more just because I like the way they look more, but I don’t think I’d buy this again.
Nice build, it sounds really good. I have one on the way and I'll probably end up doing this mod also. Have you had any issues with software at all? I've watched several videos other people have done where there was issues with early software, but it looks like Glorious has had some updates since then.
Thanks, Travis! I didn't have any issues with the software, but I didn't do much with it. I just flashed the board and set the colors. No remapping or anything fancy. I did hear some complaints in the beginning, but haven't heard anything bad about it for a long while now.
I think i only used 5 screws on this board and threw away the rest😂
I get that for the plate, but the case too?! You're a mad man lmao
@@thesurgeonkeebs9857 i forgot to count but i swear theres like 25-30 screws in the whole board LOL i only needed the LED diffuser screws and the case screws to close it HHAHA
@@johnpalcon7570 Oh I believe you. The plate/PCB alone has 12 screws! Should have just made it top mount at that point.
But is the masking tape mod safe?
Absolutely in regards to the GMMK Pro. There is no battery in it which has been the big hazard for a lot of people.
I see thanks
@@williamcodywinter i use washi tape. works great as well
as long you dont use sticky tapes its fine
You sound like Ranboo
He sounds a lot less nasally than me lmao
@@thesurgeonkeebs9857 lol
Dude zooms through spots that should really be slowed down on and shown off. It's a beginner board and this tutorial isn't beginner friendly
I agree with you. I’ve tried to slow down and adjust my reviews and builds to be more beginner friendly since this. What parts are you talking about specifically?
@@thesurgeonkeebs9857 Bro is so quick to critique and criticize you but doesn’t want to help you fix the “problems” he says your video has lol
@@timkeyskeys462 haha it's all good, man! You can't please everyone. Especially on the internet 😂
