Woah! I’ve watched most of your videos and I *just* realized your first post was only a month ago- I assumed you had been doing it for a long time! You’re super polished. And we need more designers on UA-cam :) Keep it up !
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it 😊
Great ideas here! Another favorite resource of mine for inexpensive art: all of the open access collections that a lot of art museums feature on their websites now - any works that are now part of the public domain can be downloaded for free, for either personal OR commercial use. All you have to do is find a printer and perhaps a nice second-hand frame, and the sky is the limit!
@@kermittheduck Yes! Such a great resource. Excellent tip 😊
I love buying from thrift stores but there are very few with a lot of furniture.
A beautiful drop leaf table in real wood ❤ Big work table potential, and you could always cover it with a full tablecloth right to the floor = hidden storage.
One of the best ideas for large art I saw in a decorating book was using two large identical abstracts, side by side above the sofa. One was upside down, and it made a completely coordinated art group.
It’s true! I find thrift stores in my area are lacking in furniture too. That art idea is clever - I used to do that sometimes when I staged showhomes and needed two coordinating pieces 😊
Hey, Tara! Another great one. I absolutely love thrift stores for furniture and decor pieces. Consignment shops are ripe for gems, too. My husband and I shop flooring stores for soft-back mid-pile carpet remnants and have them bound into rugs. The patterns are unique, they come with stain protection and are reasonably priced. Great tips!
Thanks so much! Bound carpet remnants are a great idea for area rugs. And it gives you so much flexibility for sizing! Very smart 😊
That's a great tip. Like the size flexibility too.
Newly discovered channel and what fantastic quality of presentation as well as warm approachable content!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it 😊
Really loving your channel! Any tips or suggestions for home libraries would be really appreciated. Some of us who love design are also major bookworms! 🤓📚
I will definitely make a note of that! Thanks so much for watching 😊
Thanks for this! You’re doing well! I can’t really use much of this personally as I live in a country where there’s no thrift shops, IKEA, Amazon etc 😔. However there are are a lots of fab artisans and gifted craftspeople so I get by. Keep doing what you’re doing, giving lots of inspiration to lots of people xx
That’s so kind! Thank you so much. I’m sure not having access to IKEA etc can be a challenge, but how wonderful to be able to support local talented people! I love that. The world would be a better place if we all lived that way 😊
Love the music, pacing, editing and shelf styling:) Your examples are all so chic, too. You’re my new favorite interior channel! Thanks for the inspiration!
@@bokettooo Oh gosh thank you so much!!! 😊
These are very good tips.
Something else that's really been helpful to us was knowing the local big sale periods (which aren't always necessarily the ones advertised as such). Try pacing your shopping to get the best deal if at all possible. That means not buying when you need to just get something right now. I realize it's not always possible, but when we got our new home we knew we would need a new sofa and a new bed, so we did our research well in advance, but only did the actual shopping bit when the furniture stores really needed to get rid of their stock, which is how we got a sofa that was originally out of our price range, but was doable with ~45% off, and we got an area rug for 70% off as a bonus, just because we timed it well.
Having said that, sometimes you just can't win. I recently figured out that the light fixture I'm looking for is so off-trend in the shops that it isn't at all available, and so on-trend in the vintage sphere that's it's way overpriced. I might need to find a temporary solution until things change because there really is just so long you can live with exposed bulbs...
As always, well done, Tara, and congratulations on your first 2k subscribers!
Oh I love a good sale! It kills me to pay full price for anything and I avoid it as much as I can. Hope you figure out a good solution to your lighting dilemma! Thanks so much and thanks again for being here 😊
@@tarapallaychannel There are very few things I'm willing to pay full price on, especially now that I'm older (may not be much wiser, but I am more patient). If it absolutely would make me or someone I love happy if we had this thing right now, then it may be worth it, but otherwise, most things can wait, and I've pretty much conquered FOMO due to experiencing so many things that a. come and go, and b. are followed by something else equally pleasing.
I'm sure I'll figure something out with the lighting. If not now, then eventually.
You keep making quality content, so I keep coming back 🙂
@@unfilthy thank you so much! 😊
Ooo can you do a video on rug proportions? I never know!
Yeah I know that can be a tricky thing to figure out! I will definitely put that info in a video at some point 😊
hi Tara, great videoes! I will love to se a video, were you "walk" trugh a bunch og pictures of rooms with "perfekt" lighting installed, talk about what works and whey.
Oh that would be interesting… I’ll have to start keeping an eye out for images of well-lit rooms. I find in a lot of photos there’s just an all-over level of bright lighting that doesn’t necessarily demonstrate that very well. Thanks for watching 😊
Great video!
Thank you so much! 😊
Modern dining chairs for the family dining table could work.
Absolutely! Just working on finding the right ones 😊
Wool rugs can be really nice, but all too many are badly made and are therefore a bad investment. Many new wool rugs are assembled with punch needle construction, meaning a strand of yarn is punched through a canvas backing to form loops. These loops are not secured, therefore, if you vacuum the rug and one of the strands gets sucked into your vacuum cleaner, the rug will start to unravel. In fact, many wool rugs instruct you to not use a beater type vacuum. If you're having to vacuum with an attachment, it becomes more work and it won't get the rug cleaned as deeply as when using upright vacuums. Additionally, many wool rugs shed endlessly. People report filling canister after canister every time they vacuum their rug - and the shedding continues for MONTHS!
While polypropylene rugs may not wear as wool will long term, they can still be a good investment because you won't accidentally unravel them, and polypropylene doesn't shed. Additionally, many polypropylene rugs are machine washable.
All very valid points! I have very light vinyl flooring and wasn’t willing to risk yellowing so I did go with wool. And yes the shedding can be really annoying. I don’t love that my floors are vinyl (would prefer to have hardwood) so at least being able to have natural fibres in my rug does make me feel better :) I definitely see the benefits of a washable rug - I’ve never owned one myself but have heard that the edges have a tendency to roll up. Although I’m sure some are better quality than others. Thanks for the comment 😊
