Those of you complaining about the specs on the 5X are probably coming from an OEM like LG or Samsung. Let me tell you this: A Nexus doesn't need 3-4 GB of RAM to run decently. With stripped down, well optimized software, this thing will likely easily outpace Samsung and LG's own devices. Essentially, Nexus phones are iPhones running Android.
+DaveSwag Your right about RAM. Without any bloatware it doesn't need 3Gb. However the Soc is also a step back from the Exynos 7420 found in the S6. In the US that's fine considering it's cheaper. In Europe the price difference is negligible. It adds up and it becomes a tough sell.
Sure but why settle for less if you can have more right now for less money in Europe. With Samsung Cashback i can buy a Galaxy S6 for arround 20-30 euro's less then the list price of the 32gb Nexus 5x While previously Nexus models had a performance/price ratio that others couldn't match.
+Kevin Lam for a flagship device the starting storage option should be 64GB especially if it doesn't come with a sdcard slot. Just like the low to midrange devices they should come with 16GB and a microSD slot. I see a lot of phones at a low price with 4-8GB where the OS eats up half of the entire storage.
aww I miss nexus so much I loved my nexus 7 2013 and nexus 4(now my mom's) there just so perfect, even though they have downfalls they are always amazing
Meh..think the G4 will be my next Nexus 5. Cheaper if bought new on ebay, micro sd, removable battery, qhd screen, faster lens, 3gb, ois, common! I prefer those than a finger print reader and 16gb... Any word on Raw capability?
True, but having the option to swap out sd cards when shooting raw photos is kinda important to me, I shoot raw on my Nexus 5 and love the quality it brings when processed correctly. Plus I have a 3gb plan here in Canada and we all know streaming on 4g/LTE drains the battery, especially more if you're using spotify. Just having a larger battery, that I can wireless charge if I want to, or swap out if I need to would be a great benefit. I love what Nexus used to stand for prior to the N6, cheap, class leading proc, but I don't see this one as a significant step up from the original Nexus 5, after this I'm looking at Nexus 6P. I'll see once the reviews come out and proper camera samples are released and then I'll decide. But for the price, especially here in Canada of $429 for the base model, I rather put that money to a phone that just ...does more for a similar price you know? It's LG! so I don't mind so much. ^_^
***** I factory reset my phone recently because of a virus. I don't think you understand the size of high intensive games. 10 games and I'm done. Again this device is for simple users. Not including my microsd card which this device doesn't come with. Its already 3gb down.
+SuprTuts Yeah but if it's a choice between 32gb + 128gb of sd.. and i'm shooting raw images along side of Jpg's, and have playlists of spotify songs at max quality. I keep the size down low because I have to, but i don't want to have that limitation. A 16gb version is kind of a slap in the face, I don't know what the guys at Google were thinking. Especially in this day in age of 4k video, why put a phone out there that shoots 4k but only gives you 16gb? Say 4k gives you 200mb-300mb per minute, say 25 minutes is 7.5gb, that's a lot of data for 25 min of 4k footage on a 16gb phone don't ya say? You go out one night on the town, I'm sure many people can go through 25min of footage in a day. Just saying..that including apps, music, photo's, even if you're frugal, it's not much space.
I'm not sure how I feel about the camera bump on this one. I do like the fingerprint reader however, and has me leaning towards one of the new Nexus devices instead of the Moto X Pure.
+syndicateprox You must be one of those people that takes their $1000+ mac book back to the apple store because it won't turn on because the battery died.
this phone doesn't really need a monster specs. i love the facts that google put a 808 SoC in this phone, instead of 810 and it has a lower ppi than nexus 5 (424 vs 445) and lower clockspeed over Snapdragon 800 on nexus 5. those things will easily bring this phone score at least 4 - 5 hours screen time (my normal usage) with 2700mAh juice. and i think 2 gigs of ram is enough for this 5x, since nexus phones are optimized for stock android (and vice versa), just like running iOS on iPhone. cmiiw
I'm thinking of buying this phone Nexus 5X 16GB, but I have 1 burning question! This this "16 GB" INCLUDING the OS ? Or EXCLUDING the OS?? Meaning: do I have an entire 16 GB to use for my stuff? or is that a lot LESS THAN 16 GB??
I did not get your comparison, but nonetheless, the charging happens through the inducted magnetic flux and its waves cases electrons to move around in the "receiver" in the phone. Those waves have to travel a certain distance, and no physical contact has been made. Just search it up and see how it works. If I misinterpreted your statement, please let me know.
I am excited! I just ordered this with 32 GB without even checking it out on beforehand! But this looks like it really will be a good upgrade from my Galaxy S4 mini!
The nexus 6p is actually a pretty nice improvement over the 6. Also, not everyone has the same sized hands. Why the fuck can't people realize that for some people, 5.7 inches is the perfect size.
i'm sorry what about the prices in US ? , in some other parts of the world the price is not competitive at all, considering taxes you could easily buy a lg g4
Speaking for my wife that has one. "It's really nice and really snappy. The battery isn't amazing but it can get me through a full day with 50-60% brightness and moderate use. It's incredibly lightweight and the camera is amazing." She is coming from a S6.
I was really hoping to upgrade from my nexus 5. But the materials look the same and if anything the sides will eventually have hairline cracks like my 2013 model (so ugly).. also now it costs more with not that great of a spec bump. Looks like its either oneplus2 or G4 for me
I would not pay more than 250 for that phone, plastic, low ram, no sd slot, 1080p, only 13mp and if it keeps with the original n5 the battery will be shitty.

Which leads to higher dynamic range and lower noise levels. Which happens to be a LOT more important then a few extra megapixels that a phone lens can't resolve anyway. The Battery is the same size as my Z3 compact which lasts 2 days on careful use. It depends on how efficient it will be. But with the snap 808 it shouldn't be a problem
+1barnet1 Yada Yada, I know but if I wanted a clean practical and low price phone I would get a Moto G 2015. This phone is less than 50 bucks below the LG g4 Bad pricing scheme from Google here.
Oh I'm going to get the G4 for sure! I kept saying to myself the G4 should have been the next Nexus 5, especially at the price it's at now. I'm really pissed they didn't include OIS, if it can somehow miraculously take photos at 1/2 sec like my nexus 5 can, then I'm sold lol. I'm not excited by the 5X, no wireless charging, no ois. I dunno...I'm a lil disappointed.
I don't understand why companies are considering their smaller phones mid-range when a lot of users don't want a giant phone. I think Apple is one of the only brands (forgetting OIS and battery) that keeps the specs the same between sizes. The same is happening with the Lumia 950/XL (808 vs 810). All I want is a 6P with a smaller screen!
Really wish LG wouldn't have been so 2010 with the single speaker crap. It's 2015, and IMHO dual stereo front-facing speakers _should_ be the norm. I mean if the Nexus 6P can do it, then there's no reason why both couldn't have had even at the low price (the Moto G is cheaper and has it).
5x such a let down, i was so excited for this, for me it slightly to big, not enough storage with no expand, the Z5 compact looks like it will be much better all round apart from screen res maybe but with slightly smaller screen you wont notice hopefully.
Love the Design and OS, but hate the screen quality and I'm sure the camera will suck. wish it had samsungs screens and camera and also with a good battery, that would be the perfect phone.
I really don't understand why people are getting so butthurt over the base model being 16gb. if you need extra buy the 32gb version. For quite a few 16gb is just fine. For me it is. Don't forget we have plenty of cloud storage options to save physical memory and good enough 4g coverage. I store all my music, photos, videos and documents using Google services for free. All I need storage for then is apps on my nexus 4. Even have enough space for a high storage games too.
+GeorgeOS fair play to you. the only device I struggle with 16gb is my nexus 9 as like to play high graphical games which take alot of storage, therefore I would of preferred the 32gb. on anything else I'm fine with just 16gb as it is for many if they were to utilise cloud storage more. What people need to realise is there is less and less need for physical storage now, and if they were to change they would be just fine. Cloud is much more convenient anyway.
I'll just stay with my Nexus 6 for now. I don't see much as far as a Marshmallow that seems justified in getting a new device. The new Nexus devices look great and anyone coming from a Nexus 5 should upgrade though.
I was planning on getting a Nexus 6 . Mostly because of that price cut. I'm still deciding because I hear about terrible battery. How are your experiences?
+Dane Good i also have a nexus 6 and my experience with the battery is pretty good i get 5+ SOT always and it is lasting me all day ( i am on the stock rom didnt change any thing also didnt root either but i heard that you can get 7-8 sot if you put a custom rom and change the kernel)
+Dane Good The Nexus 6 has been a bit jittery in certain situations since they updated the launcher through a backdoor update. Battery has been good but not great. The Nexus 6 will get Marshmallow starting Oct 4th. If I were you I would just get one of the new Nexus devices however if price is your main concern ... you will get all the luxuries of Marshmallow with the Nexus 6 come Oct. 4th.
Well that actually sounds good. I'm sorta a heavy user but I think I'll risk it. This was once and I guess still is a flagship. It has awesome specs and I think at the price, it's just too good to turn down. Thanks. P.S. Just going to YOLO it lol.
The should made the phone thicker in the top instead of that horrible hump. For example 1cm of thickness in the bottom and 1.3cm on top, so you would see a diagonal line when the phone is laid down. Will look more uniform instead of the protruding camera. I'll pay 20 dollars more and get the Moto X that even has expandable storage smh
@Marc Connell I hated my s2 maybe cause mine was a used doodoo one but it ruined for me so bad I went to windows phone which I like hopefully this isn't like that s2 r.i.p
The only flaw is the storage, 32gb is the standart in 2015, the speaker is... who use it in 2015? all the people use headphone, 2gb of RAM is sufficient for the 99% of the people (unless you always have more than 10 apps open that you use constantly, but its ilogic), the battery its a bit short but i think that will survive all the day, all is fine with this phone, in a couple of months will be in 350 approx its technology, all get cheap with the time
So the 5x is a marginally more powerful nexus 5 with a fingerprint scanner, marginally bigger battery and a better camera but the camera is literally slapped on the back, it's still 1080p not AMOLED and no wireless charging.... i have a nexus 4 right now and i may just upgrade to the nexus 5.
Well, Google seems to have changed their business model and wants to make more money from devices rather than selling a cheap phone and making a lot more from its services. No, Google, people will not buy these phones as it was before. Too expensive. The market has changed.
I personally don't like phablets, but I understand their popularity ( for tall people, women, older people, or they just like it). But on the 5x they try to sell me 16gb! It should have the same storage options as the 6p or at least 32gb as the base model with 64gb as the max. The specs don't bother me though because its pure android, and the lack of an SD card port or removable battery shouldn't be expected because they just don't do that with nexus phones. What the hell happened to the wireless charging?
Those of you complaining about the specs on the 5X are probably coming from an OEM like LG or Samsung. Let me tell you this: A Nexus doesn't need 3-4 GB of RAM to run decently. With stripped down, well optimized software, this thing will likely easily outpace Samsung and LG's own devices.

+DaveSwag It's not about running smoothly.
1:32
That's why we need more than 2GB RAM.
Still 16GB base model in 2015? *This is not the Droid you're looking for.*
+shadowtsunami even then with storage reaching a few terrabytes in SSD's and flash drives at 512gb ide say 64 should be the start
+Kevin Lam iPhone 6S in 16GB is even dumber. 4K videos on these devices means 16GB per video (Okay that was over exaggerated)
+Mr_Longhorns because you shouldn't have to pay more for a few extra gigs of storage ?
+Kevin Lam If they just added an SD card slot, you know :/.
+Kevin Lam for a flagship device the starting storage option should be 64GB especially if it doesn't come with a sdcard slot. I loved my nexus 7 2013
and nexus 4(now my mom's)
there just so perfect, even though they have downfalls
they are always amazing
I'm sticking with my original Nexus 5. Runs just like the day I received it from the Google Play store. Snappy!
this phone is amazing and this phone holds so far 88 apps for me. with a lot of room left! and the camera is wonderful
When will you be releasing a full review on the Nexus 5X?
Looks like that black plastic covering the laser focus is already getting scratched up like the LG G3.
I noticed an issue with multitasking, it seems the website completely loads again once to open the recently used windows
Meh..think the G4 will be my next Nexus 5. Cheaper if bought new on ebay, micro sd, removable battery, qhd screen, faster lens, 3gb, ois, common! I prefer those than a finger print reader and 16gb...

josh is becoming my favorite tech reviewer!!!!!!
so is the 5X worth paying the cash to upgrade to from the Nexus 5? I want this or the Note 5....
Does it have a RGB notification light like the current N5 does?
Can you use this for the AT&T network I don't know why that was not addressed in the video
what if I want the battery to last a lifetime, will that happen?
+syndicateprox Not with hair like that
Yes, it will tooootally happen because DOZE means forever :D

Nexus 5X or Bq Aquaris M5? The M5 has the same display, 615 snapdragon and same cameras and the most important, micro sd slot. And cost 120€ less..
this phone doesn't really need a monster specs.

479€ in Europe? Are you kidding me Google? Really, for this phone?

I'm thinking of buying this phone Nexus 5X 16GB, but I have 1 burning
question!
This this "16 GB" INCLUDING the OS ? Or EXCLUDING the OS?? Meaning: do I
have an entire 16 GB to use for my stuff? or is that a lot LESS THAN 16
GB??
does the nexus 5x use a micro or nano sim card for t-mobile?
Selling my G4 for this once it launches in Indonesia. So excited.
I love my nexus 5, this 5x doesn't look the best but for the price it's a competitor!
Does the Nexus 5x have simultaneous voice and data with Verizon?
That voice crack around 3:14 tho
I like the trending down of the prices of top tier phones. These are both very good phones. The 6P is definitely a flagship.
Bye wireless charging, it was nice knowing you.
+LegoGuy87 "not even truly wireless" why not? I've wireless charging and I assure you it's wireless
+bad scooter I'm upgrading from the same thing!
Should I upgrade from an iPhone 5S to this?
Do both speakers work? Or is one just for design
u forgot to mention the date it ll be available from....
Google messed up with the nexus line in 2015. The nexus 6 is just huge and not that incredible and the nexus 5 is a overpriced phone in todays market.
+Alan Harake just got my nexus 6 last week. LOVE the size.
The nexus 6p is actually a pretty nice improvement over the 6. Also, not everyone has the same sized hands. Why the fuck can't people realize that for some people, 5.7 inches is the perfect size.
+Mr. Cheesedoodles also they shouldve gone with a different brand. I can't trust some cheap Chinese brand like hawuei for a quality device
Alan Harake What's wrong with Huawei phones? From what I've heard they make very nice hardware.
+Mr. Cheesedoodles its one of those Chinese companies who is new in making phones. idk man
Great video as always Josh, but is the video slightly out of focus?
+Luke Baatjies Focused on his hands
Joshua you were Bayview buds right
i'm sorry what about the prices in US ? , in some other parts of the world the price is not competitive at all, considering taxes you could easily buy a lg g4
please tell us which model of your watch !? thank
Every year the specs of the phone at this point dont matter. Its the features and what it can do that makes it stand out.
Is this bad for small hands? It's this or moto g3 which is slightly smaller
Speaking for my wife that has one.
"It's really nice and really snappy. The battery isn't amazing but it

Should I upgrade to this or the 6s (from 5s)
Usb type c? How can I use my otg cable now?
Why are camera humps acceptable now?
does android M have a dark mode.? the white background in the apps menu is just annoying.
The Black 5X looks stunning. But i prefer notifications light rather than ambient display due to privacy.
+August Dayzz there is a notification light in the middle of the bottom grill.
joshvergara, that watch you wearing?
when will the full review come
cant wait to try this. the white colour is the one im gonna get if everything feels nice
my nexus 5 didn't yet received the marshmallow update , why ?
October 5 or later
+Manish Sharma thanks dude :)
gsmarena states that this phone has stereo speakers.??
Will old devices get Android M?
is screen pinning still available?
I like the design except the camera... I dont like how it sticks out.
It actually hardly sticks out at all! It's just is a eye trick. Watch the video again. You will see that it isn't nearly as bad as people are thinking
Lets see how good the battey life and the camera are on these new Nexus
Does it have a micro SD card slot?
I was really hoping to upgrade from my nexus 5. But the materials look the same and if anything the sides will eventually have hairline cracks like my 2013 model (so ugly).. also now it costs more with not that great of a spec bump. Looks like its either oneplus2 or G4 for me
Display colours look flat. Why oh why no p-oled lg??
This is so tempting to put in an order for this phone through the google playstore, however I'm still happy with my moto x 2nd gen.
what smart watch is he wearing?
I have a nexus 5, should I buy the nexus 6 or buy the 5x?
+isoup Stick with the 5 . both are ugly phones and not any faster . unless you are really etching for 4K
lastmoh1989 I'm leaning towards the nexus 6 (not 6p)
Moto x play is a better option /value ,in fact the Asus zenfone2 is a steal
+isoup Moto X Pure is what I would say.
Zuby A I was comparing the nexus 6 to the moto x pure and right now let's just say... It's hard to pick one 😂😂😂
Is the storage expandable?
5x or 6p i dont know which one to get :'''(
does it have wireless charging
can't wait to get my hands on it and say goodbye to my Nexus 5(2013) :)
you were seen in verge video
how big is the phone?
379 this or 399 moto x pure?
I'd like to see +Jayce Broda do the review for the Nexus 5X. Please let him!
ordered mine I really like this phone and the camera compared to my HTC one is awesome only got 12 days to wait till I can use it 😀
cnt decide between white or black...

It's pretty disappointing to find out that the 5X has only ONE front facing speaker while the other is the earpiece. It could have been both.
Dane Good Great glad i was able to help you out. Nexus 6 is still a solid device.
+DarkWarrioR I dont think there is a physical hump. Look at the video again.
I just really want expandable storage. Why can't they just do that.
can't wait for that stereo speaker mod haha
Was going to hold out for this phone, but glad I didn't.
No dual speakers? Highly disappointing.
@Marc Connell I hated my s2 maybe cause mine was a used doodoo one but it ruined for me so bad I went to windows phone which I like hopefully this isn't like that s2 r.i.p
Do I see bloat there? IMDB? Tripadvisor? Instagram? etc ... ?
The only flaw is the storage, 32gb is the standart in 2015, the speaker is... who use it in 2015? all the people use headphone, 2gb of RAM is sufficient for the 99% of the people (unless you always have more than 10 apps open that you use constantly, but its ilogic), the battery its a bit short but i think that will survive all the day, all is fine with this phone, in a couple of months will be in 350 approx its technology, all get cheap with the time
Multitasking?
So the 5x is a marginally more powerful nexus 5 with a fingerprint scanner, marginally bigger battery and a better camera but the camera is literally slapped on the back, it's still 1080p not AMOLED and no wireless charging.... i have a nexus 4 right now and i may just upgrade to the nexus 5.
2 gigs of ram??
Yep. :-\
What the hell happened to the wireless charging?

...urge to punch computer monitor rising...
16GB and no Micro SD support. no thanks for the same price I can get the Moto X Style and it comes with 16GB too but a least it has a micro SD slot!
