If you have a roof leak, I highly recommend to hire a roof repair specialist because they have much more experience at finding the source of a leak compared to roofers that mainly do new roof installations.
it probably leaks from the roof ridge as it is the first part that gets older or around the chimney and needs to bee reflashed. i am in MA too thinking doing my own roof
Yes Edgar, this homeowner most certainly did have a leak at the bottom corner of the chimney and also at the backside. The step flashing along the chimney and also at the facia were the main source of the problem.
Thanks! I live up in Massachusetts, alas, so will need to call someone local but much appreciate your troubleshooting

my guess would be a leak at the bottom of the chimney top side and the cracked mortar.

He just didn't enough goop far enough.
Enough goop will stop leaks.
If roofer had done aa good enough job to begin with this would not have leaked
