  • In this third Lent talk for 2022 - delivered as the people of Lismore Diocese deal with the aftermath of the floods that have devastated the region - Bishop Greg Homeming draws on the life and writings of St John of the Cross to help us on our journey towards healing and renewal.
With the Cathedral sadly out of service, this talk was recorded in the Bishop's office.

I have a beautiful garden which is only because I am caretaking it for God. He is with me as I wok in his garden and try to do my little bit in his world. I hope I am sharing in His world. Thank you for a homily which I can understand.

Thank you Bishop Greg for your beautiful Lenten Talks amidst all the suffering and sorrow, not just from the Lismore floods, and others in Queensland. It causes me to see and pray for the Ukraine, (even the ordinary Russian people) at this time where people are being attacked, are dying, being taken away, innocent children and mothers killed in places of refuge. God indeed is surely grieving as I grieve with Him, a suffering love which is God's Own suffering Love, for us, His wayward children. I feel this suffering love, some call it a compassion, but it is way more than any human emotion or feeling. I DO believe and trust that "ALL things work for good ...for those who love HIM." To be able to see God working in the midst of such sorrow which causes people around the world to fall to their knees and pray, (because they can do nothing more) or to reach out and help each other in any material or emotional way they can. It takes the gaze OFF ourselves and OUT towards others. It is like seeing Jesus Christ once again suffering on the Cross out of LOVE for His Own people as He cries out: "Father Forgive them, for they know not what they are doing!" May He be Blessed and Praised for ever. Amen

Dear bishop, your people of Lismore are not different from others. Where was God in the tsunami in many places on Boxing Day in 2006? Tell your people in a future sermon of the quotation i received last Sunday. It said simply- Life is beautiful. It depends where you look. Good morning!

Praise the Lord for the Internet. It's a great gift for through it we are able to listen the words of wisdom from Bishop Greg. People of Lismore, we pay for you.
