i listened to this record as an 11 year old at my grandparents house in 1983....i know it word for word, the war stories section is just as good....nostalgia doesnt even begin to quantify the feelings of pure happiness, safety and joy that watching this evokes in me...i still use the line when my son asks me for money..'where's tha gannin? hollang?' he just looks at me in bemusement hahah but i crack myself up hahah ...god bless y bobby....you had ya troubles like we all do, but your legacy is golden....
I saw the little fella when I was doing my degree at Durham University in 1984, the lecture theatre was packed, standing room only. When he finished the whole place erupted with applause. There was hardly anyone over the age of 22.
Bobby Thompson was a comedy genius. He was clever. He was a great story teller about every day life in the North East. I'm old enough to understand what he is talking about. Bloody funny.
Absolutely wonderful real art, real skill, real talent ,and real times ,industries, high streets, shops, pubs, clubs, corner shops etc etc real times,,better times
As a NE club organist I knew Bobby very well! I heard his routine more times than I remember and although his routine was pretty. Much the same I never stopped laughing!
My dad used to be a comedian you might have backed him his name was Al Collins .They were great days ,sadly gone now. I met Bobby a few times good bloke.
We all had nowt in them days but thinking back we were happier. We didn’t have to watch every word we said. You could call anybody love or pet and not be accused of being patronising. People had a sense of humour. We could laugh at ourselves. Happy memories. ❤
Saw little Bobby umpteen times. If he was on any local clubs we always made a beeline to see him. We knew the act backwards but the delivery was priceless. Likewise the Dixielanders , hilarious entertainment. Modern so called comedians should watch these guys and find out what comedy is all about.
……Godspeed Bobby 🙏🏻 My beloved parents & I would be crying with laughter every time we listened to ‘The Little Waster’ on LP in the late 1970s ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Im a geordie and honestly this man was my dads fav comedian and as a member of the CIU Manors social club he saw bobby more times than i can count and thanks to the vhs of his routine i became a massive fan i may only be 45 but i can recite his jokes word for word lol
The days when no one had owt, but we were all in the same boat so it didn’t bother us. That’s why we could laugh along at our own situation. Bobby just made meagre times so funny.
Reminds me of my street when I was a kid, if you paid the rent two weeks running the police used to come around to see where you'd got the money from!🥺 All my clothes came from the Army and Navy Stores, I was the only five year old Japanese Admiral in our class!😲 Our school was the hardest in the town, we even had our own coroner!😉 Some kids took the piss out of my younger brother aged ten because he had red lines running down his face, so I told them it was because he was breast fed! They asked how that could possibly be? I said 'she used to come to the school on a lunchtime and breast feed him through the railings!🤫We used to walk to school and back home later, a round trip of ten miles, that just show's how thick we were, the school was only two streets away, but we always got lost every day!🤔 The teacher asked my brother 'What comes at the end of a sentence'? My brother said ' Parole miss'!🤭The school inspector asked one lad in our class 'who knocked down the walls of Jericho'? He said 'well it wasn't me'! The inspector went to the head master and told him that when he asked who knocked down the walls of Jericho? the ginger lad said it wasn't him! The headmaster said 'well, I've know little ginger Thompson since he was a kid, and if he says he never did it, then he never did it'!
Thank you Jade what brilliant comedian he was. I've listened to his jokes many times and i still laugh even when you know what the punchline is. I managed to see Bobby three times live, and laughed all the way through his act, every time. He was the best and always will be. Thank you. )
A seen him at tyne theatre & after the show he was in the foyer & he very kindly signed the LP I bought which even when I listen to today is hilarious. Rest in peace Bobby. 👍🏆
My late father was trying to put a flat pack together .we were playing Bobby's record on the record player. My dad couldn't put it together for laughing. He found him that funny he was crying with laughter. Bobby was bloody funny. I love watching him on the you tube channel. He was hilarious.
Absolutely a icon as I have his dvd the little waster and the records a brilliant iconic comedian never used fowl language to get a laugh a great story teller so funny one of a kind may his soul rest in peace ✌️😂
Southerner here, used to work with a lovely fella from Newton Aycliffe. On a quiet shift he'd tell me all these jokes. Carry yer bag? - nah let her walk still cracks me up
Honestly at 22 I think I could have a good bloody go at reciting this word for word like will never not be funny this and private Bobby aswell hall of fame sets 😂 if only I was around years ago to see the man live
Loved Bobby , we were so lucky them days , Bobby T , Alan snell , Brendan Healy , sue sweeney , endless list , I sit with Terry buster Joyce on a Friday night another scream 😊😊😊😂😂
In 1970's I saw Tony Capstick in a Sheffield WMC. He did a great show and had the whole place laughing. Now after all these years I know who he copied his act from.
I was talking to him one day in The Turf Accountants in Whitley Bay one day, I didn't have a clue who he was. Immaculately dressed and groomed. You could see your face in his shoes. Then a chauffeur sticks his head in the door and reminds him of the time and tells him to hurry up as he's going to be late. When he left a bloke told me who he was. He looked as opposite to him in this video as it's possible to get. A proper toff.
I love the part when he said she thought she was having a bubble bath and she’d been eating mushy peas and the woman on the front row table reminds me of my ex sister when she starts laughing when she puts one hand on her face
Would anyone happen to know if the unedited version of this video is on YT or elsewhere please? It was filmed at Percy Main Club and my late mum and dad can be seen on it; I'd love to see it again.

How I wished I'd been old enough to see Bobby back then. I was born in 1972, too young to get in the clubs 😉
Great days of clubland the youngsters will never know how wonderful it was sadly
I wish Sunderland would erect a statue to Bobby Thompson. I think he needs to be forgotten but forever remembered.
I was meant to say not forgotten.

What a great comedian no vulgar language just great fun
So you like Chubby Brown then 😂
Well, Ah divv'na- I thought his reference to "scratching the Cheviots" _et seq_ a touch risqué (particularly the poaching bit)
@@2lefThumbs❤❤❤❤❤
Knew Bobby from my days in Whitley Bay. A generous, friendly and kind hearted man as funny in real life as he was in the clubs.
I can confirm that Kevin, met him a few times, a really nice guy. He would pack any club he was appearing at.
Oh my goodness, how funny was he? Not a word of bad language, how refreshing was that? ❤
We all had nowt in them days but thinking back we were happier. We didn’t have to watch every word we said. You could call anybody love or pet and not be accused of being patronising. People had a sense of humour. We could laugh at ourselves. Happy memories. ❤
I still say love pet flower chuck hiny to folk
After all these years Bobby is still funny, no foul language just unadulterated northern humour.
Saw little Bobby umpteen times. If he was on any local clubs we always made a beeline to see him. We knew the act backwards but the delivery was priceless. Likewise the Dixielanders , hilarious entertainment. Modern so called comedians should watch these guys and find out what comedy is all about.
When I can understand him he's brilliant. His timing is perfect.
It's good to see that Bobby Thompson is still incredibly funny in this day & age. RIP The little waster.
Watching this in south wales not easy to understand every word put had me laughing all the way through
Saw Bobby Thompson many times in SW Durham clubs and abolutely loved him. We still use the 'I'm no engineer' line when anything needs fixing.
I've heard him since I was a kid. I know all what's coming but still he creases me with laughter. He was just bloody brilliant.
Bought back a lot of very happy memories this😂😂He was my fathers favourite comedian, absolutely brilliant👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
He was my Dad's too

More money sloshin around these days but rarely for working class people
Never saw him live. But as an exiled geordie, memories and good ones of my upbringing.
I remember him in his latter days living in Monkseaton Whitley Bay. He was hilarious. 😊😊

South-west - hardly caught a word.
Do we care if the southerners can understand..😂
Southerner here, used to work with a lovely fella from Newton Aycliffe. On a quiet shift he'd tell me all these jokes. Carry yer bag? - nah let her walk still cracks me up

I saw him and his wife many times at the casino rooms in Newcastle In the early1980s
Every time I cry laughing 🤣
😂 Memories of seeing him at Gateshead Central Club
Absolute legend 😂😂😂😂
At the time, 1982 seemed really modern, but looking back now it seems hardly distinguishable from the 1960’s.
Laughed my bollocks off man
.... What're Identifying As These Days Then... " THIS THAT or TUTHER? "... Very Whimsical Indeed 🏴🥂🥸 5:36
He's great man 😍 so funny
He was a genius
Great me father loved him ❤
What a brilliant irreplaceable comedian no filth, no foul language, he based his performance on some of his unfortunate downfalls.
When watching this, put on closed caption [CC] it's even funnier... when he says mistletoe they write it as "misery tool" 😂
It's as if the captions are in a different language ..really funny 😂
