I just make sure to cut the bottle straight, Recently I started freezing blocks of ice in containers, (cottage cheese, sour cream size) and using those as well. Sometimes using the blocks it takes 2.
I used Grateful Dyes colors on this one. Scarlet, Bright Orange, Lemon Yellow, Emerald Green, BLue, Deep Purple. Many of their colors do not split whenn ice dyeing.

You are folding your shirt while it's completely dry? No soda ash?
I can’t remember specifically on this one but yes a lot of time I tie dry and sprinkle the soda ash over the dye and ice.
