Dang! From two feet and on thick carpet, for their lens to shatter (like glass?) is some kind of anomaly! Definitely, reach out to Oakley; they will help you. I have never seen their lens material shatter. I would have thought it impossible, so the fact that they did should be proof enough that they will replace them immediately.
SportRx that’s what I was told. I didn’t watch it happen but that is what I was told. It could have been smashed I guess but it didn’t look like it. It’s a few years old already
The impact test is pretty accurate. I was using a weed eater and a rock the size of a quarter hit my lens on my flak 2.0 and it didn’t shatter. It simply left a small dent on my lens. Could of lost an eye or damaged it pretty bad.
I shot a 177 airgun pellet at a pair of $10 sunglasses. There was a small dent in the lens but that`s it. So your theory about shatter resistance only in expensive glasses is very wrong. Plexiglass is not very expensive.
It's really cool to get an inside look at Oakley's operation(s), and it's even cooler to get a better understanding of what your money goes towards. All of this just makes me love Oakley even more!
Wow! I've always been an Oakley fan, but I did not know how much pride and technology is put into the brand! I would even go as far to say that Oakley is the Apple of optics! 😀
I saw this add and bought another one "radarlock", I now will own like four pairs. Phenomenal in every aspect!!! Price, quality, durability, style...im addicted to them!
This is excellent! Love to see this company show the science of durability with their products. It clearly shows what is practical and what isn't practical.
Incredible!! I have several pairs of Oakley sunglasses as a cyclist and this makes me feel even more safe. I love that Oakley even cares this much about design and engineering. :)
I can attest to this. I've had dirt, rocks and debris launched at my eyes. While wearing Oakley sunglasses, never had an injury. Sure, they are expensive, but I would rather pay for sunglasses than have to pay for eye surgery. I wear Holbrook and Radar EV frames. The polarized lenses are great, especially if you get prizm built in.
You are 100% correct David! People will pay the money for the bike, shoes, helmet, but not protect their eyes. Take it from David, it's worth paying the extra buck especially for some PRIZM lenses.
13 years ago when I was in high school, I bought a pair of 1st Gen Half Jackets because I thought they looked cool. I really didn't have much knowledge on Oakley at the time. Well, some time later they actually saved my eyesight. A friend of mine accidently discharged a paintball gun he had just bought and the round went straight towards my face. The Half Jackets deflected it onto the floor and instead of a hosptial visit, I ended up with a slight headache and a cool story to tell. It since made me a very strong believer in the effectiveness of Oakley Sunglasses.
After watching this great informative video I am glad I spent over $200 for my pair Oakley’s. They glasses are amazing and to see the technology behind them is awesome!!!
I've had my prescription Oakley fuel cells four about 5 years. I've fished, biked, jogged and taken them to the shooting range. They still have no scratches and look brand new. I love them!
I tried many vendors, finally chose Oakley for optical clarity and fantastic glare reduction. I always recomended them to others for optical quality reasons, I had no idea they are so strong.
Actually luxottica bought them out because Oakley refused to sell through them but luxottica owns glass hut and about 97% of eye wear stores so it put oakley in a bind where they had no choice but to be bought out. The only good thing is that oakley still designs all their own stuff so luxottica can't wash the quality down with inferior products
Yeah, I gotta disagree. I sell Oakleys and a lot of Luxottica products through my job. Also we sell non Luxottica stuff. The Lux stuff is pretty much garbage. Mostly made in China "even Oakley now, check out there avoidance of stating it under here: www.oakley.com/en/support/faq (CAN OAKLEY EYEWEAR BE STAMPED WITH A MARKING OTHER THAN "MADE IN THE U.S.A.?") Iv'e also seen the old "Made in USA" stuff, and its far better quality. The only thing that didn't take a huge hit is the lens quality. The frames are junk though.

My first pair of flack jackets saved my left eye from a baseball off a bad hop ground ball. I did get 3 stiches in my eye brow from the frame but if it wasn't for my oaks my eye would have been much worse.

I started buying Oakley's when I used to mow yards. The debris (pebbles, sticks) from mowing and weadeating would sometimes come back at my eyes and Oakley's would stop them. Been buying them ever since
Cheap polycarbonate lenses on budget glasses would do the same. But really if you're doing something like mowing lawns you would be better to use safety glasses rather than risk scratching your expensive Oakleys, but maybe you have money to burn. You bought Oakleys so maybe you do.
i have my jawbreakers for a year now and they're amazing! I biked with them in the dirt, rain, heat, pretty much everywhere and they're still going strong! I just have a few minor scratches on them but they're still good though
Wait, this is cool, but aren't pretty much all sunglasses made/owned by luxottica, including Oakley? Is this guy just comparing to other sunglasses that the same company makes?
I think it’s about distribution or carrying their products or something...not entirely sure. Oakley tried for a long time not to play by their rules but it became too expensive for Oakley to keep it up. They got bullied into being acquired basically.
So, according to your argument, there's for example no real difference between a Jeep, Fiat, Chrysler, Dodge or say a Maserati (as they are all brands/car companies owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles)?
Luxottica may own a bit of sunglass companies but not a majority as far as what they're comparing it to I'm not sure it could be other than that accompanies like a d or or a Ray-Ban but it could also be known as out of companies like spy electric or Maui Jim so to say it's all the same either way is wrong because Oakley is a sport frame and the only one it would be comparable to is something like a Wiley X or an ESS so yes Oakley is a significant better frame or a lens material in those aspects and that's what they're comparing it to it has no difference whether it's the same company or not as far as that goes because Oakley is still a main owner of the way that they make them they won't let anyone Chang the lenses

Hey ChrisCo! Thanks for watching and leaving us a comment. Did you need the Juliet's in prescription? Or were you looking for just standard replacement lenses?
ChrisCo Unfortunately, the Oakley Juliet is an older frame and we cannot order lenses for them anymore. Sorry for the bad news. If you wanted to send in your frame in our opticians can tighten up the fit for you at no cost. Were there any other sunglasses you were interested in?
I already have a pair of Oakley carbon shift prisms but wanted to bring my old Juliet’s back to life for when I’m doing yard work or other things that could damage or scratch my carbon shifts.
While I like Oakley sunglasses (I've lost 5 pairs and just bought an M2 XL), this is just a 14 minute, 40 second commercial which Sportrx decided to participate in. It seems a little questionable to have these "tests" conducted by an Oakley marketing rep at the Oakley lab. That's not a credible test of anything, other than Oakley's ability at marketing its own products. You should take a collection of Oakleys to an independent optics lab and have them tell you what variables are really important, and then test them.
William Dukane You can't dispute an argument or information based simply upon who it came from. You can justify questioning based on it, but nothing is refuted by simply saying who it came from. Even the most habitual liar has the potential to tell the truth, you cannot, and should not disregard something someone says, simply because of who they are.
Daniel Hestopher especially if you are WATCHING them go through the tests instead of just showing you results or pictures. Idk how you can refute any of what they did, besides maybe the competitors weren't as bad a quality
William Dukane I am a rep at Oakley and I can tell you I've had lots of customers come into my store replacing their lenses because they A) scratched B) Dog chewed on them C) fell of their head while getting into a car and they ran over their sunglasses. C is very rare but it happens. Oakley sunglasses for safety/military are Z87 rated. Meaning they are puncture and also shatter proof. All of Oakleys lenses are like that. When I got my first pair of Oakleys from where I work I brought them home and smashed the lense with a hammer to see if this is true. And for that I will always only buy Oakleys.
Was in a gnarly golf cart accident on asphalt. I was pretty tore up, but my Oakley M-Frames saved my right eye from injury. Too bad they were scrapped.
Why is the focal point of the laser (in the first set of tests) set to 15 feet? And what happens to the balance of the light beams when we move that target to 10 feet or 20 feet? Do we have the same meeting of the beams and balance of light?
They were blurred out in an effort to not put any other brands on blast. It's meant to be a display of Oakley's quality, but not bashing any other brands!
this video is why I choose to wear Oakley and have been wearing them most of my life but all the benefits behind their testing to make sure your eyes see clearly through their lenses and your eyes are protected if objects come flying at your eyes
Unfortunately, my Oakley Fuel Cell Cerakote sage color glasses snapped in half at the bridge of the nose. I loved those glasses but it’ll be awhile before I can afford another pair.
I just got one pair and got them because we're very well sold because of the quality. I really enjoyed the video since validates what I heard at the store. I then saw some videos about lens "pealing" which I think it's imposible considering the lenses are tinted before, it supposed not to be a sort of coating. Can you please validates this is the case? I've got the Holbrook prizm Ruby non polarized 3 N. Thanks.
I’ve got a set of Radar Paths with the polarized iridium lenses, the surface began peeling after about 2 years of use. Can’t see through the lenses now.
Well i know i want oakley now but i cant decide between radarlocks, sutro, jawbreaker or field jacket. Im wearing these as casual to i just want more flashy.
Go for the Sutro! There is also the Sutro Eyeshade if you want to throw a little retro vibe in there as well - if you can find it anywhere, that is! www.sportrx.com/oakley-sutro.html
@@sportrxeyewear i almost got the sutro. I went ahead with the field jacket for the venting heat. My next pair might be the sutro because they are pretty radical!
I just bought a pair of Oakley crankshaft ice iridium glasses. Thanks to your reviews and this insight. I know people who have lost their sight either by trauma or extended sun exposure. I think it is worth investing in glasses like these. I just hope that now that Oakley is owned by luxotica they will steer away from this quality products
These glasses are tough as hell, I shot a pair or Radar EVs with a pellet rifle (800 fps aprox.) And they only got scratched, no dents no nothing, just a scratch. That pair got ran over by my dad a few weeks prior, the lens was all bent and it still withstood the pellet.
Oakley lenses are pretty badass, give them 3-5yrs though it flakes out. got 5 different designs of Oakley, looking forward to changing all my lenses and wishing it's not flaking off on me in due time.
Unfortunately, the film that goes over Oakley lenses can deteriorate. However, you should be able to buy replacement lenses pretty easily. The film deteriorates from bodily oils, grease, and other factors. Would you not say that although the film coming off your lenses is a bummer, the fact that you have had your oakley's faithfully serving you for five years is a well- made investment?
I may have what seems like a dumb question but does all this apply to their reading glasses also? Or just sun glasses? These glasses saved my husband's eye once before so I've experienced first hand how safe and durable they really are.
Then, for the price they need to include a Z87.1 certification. Even $2 safety glasses have it. Oakley isn't stamped (most) with Z87.1 so they can't be used as safety glasses in an OSHA environment.
That is not a service that Oakley offers. The Oakley lab is in Southern California. The majority of Oakley retail stores, if any at all, do not offer any prescription lens services. You will almost certainly need to take those frames to an Oakley prescription dealer. The good news is that we can help with that! Give us a call anytime! 888-831-5817
Don't go by what SportRX says, they are in Oakley's back pocket. I have three different Prizm lenses and these take vision to another level. The clarity and enhancement are awesome, especially for my sports, golf & driving!
Ive worn nothing but Oakleys for the past 17 years. My prescription eyewear and my sunglasses are both Oakleys. Too bad they dont have a whole lot of presence in Canada. You can only order them.
Just wondering what happens when you crash. Would the frame snap and cut your eye/face? Would the arms snap with sharp edges? Would like see those type of tests. And yes I do have an Oakley Flak 2.0 XL 👍🏻

Does this video account for all Oakley lenses? Wondering if the same protection that was viewed here is universal on all of Oakley's sunglasses
Yes all lenses are made of the same material. Did you even listen to the video, he answered your question.
Shame you can't get lens cut for old frames. They no longer cut optical lens for the Juliet
This guy is really good at talking.
@@scenefromhere mine are still as new with daily usage (not in the last 3 month obviously)
Good job Oakley! You guys should do MIL- Standard testing (environmental/mechanical) in our lab. at Element.
Couldn't agree more, glad we could help! 😎
does the impact safety also work for the radar ev pitch?
Absolutely. You have the same material and construction on the Radar line. They will be able to withstand their same standard of degree of impact.
Face planted the road in a cycling collision with a car.. Oakleys shielded my eyes and absorbed some of the impact along with helmet.
Crazy. I feel a lot better about the $175 I spent now!
“We don’t have to do it, but we do know it’s beneficial”
That’s what makes Oakley special, they set their own standards beyond what the law requires.
Jaycee Angcay get IKON replacement lenses for ur oakleys. can find them on amazon
Let us know!
Yup my Oakley's also flaked after a deep sea fishing trip, can't see the flaking when looking through the glasses but they look terrible
The same happened in my lenses! I need to buy another one, but not Oakley originals unfortunately!
Unfortunately, the film that goes over Oakley lenses can deteriorate. However, you should be able to buy replacement lenses pretty easily. The film deteriorates from bodily oils, grease, and other factors.
Would you not say that although the film coming off your lenses is a bummer, the fact that you have had your oakley's faithfully serving you for
five years is a well- made investment?
Is Plutonite available for Crosslink Strike? AND HIGH INDEX LENSES? THANKS
I may have what seems like a dumb question but does all this apply to their reading glasses also? Or just sun glasses? These glasses saved my husband's eye once before so I've experienced first hand how safe and durable they really are.
It would apply to prescription eyewear also, especially if you get the Oakley lenses!
Does this test apply only for this model of Oakley. Or are all Oakley's laser precise
All of Oakley's glasses are going to give your their HDO (high definition optics), so they are all laser precise!
Then, for the price they need to include a Z87.1 certification. Even $2 safety glasses have it. Oakley isn't stamped (most) with Z87.1 so they can't be used as safety glasses in an OSHA environment.
Daniel Higgs they have a few pairs. I wear the Detcords at work because the lenses and frame are Anzi stamped.
neat presentation
Can I go to an Oakley store and get my precscription done in Oakley frames while I wait?
That is not a service that Oakley offers. The Oakley lab is in Southern California. The majority of Oakley retail stores, if any at all, do not offer any prescription lens services. You will almost certainly need to take those frames to an Oakley prescription dealer.
The good news is that we can help with that! Give us a call anytime! 888-831-5817
Don't go by what SportRX says, they are in Oakley's back pocket. I have three different Prizm lenses and these take vision to another level. The clarity and enhancement are awesome, especially for my sports, golf & driving!
Don’t listen to us, listen to Robert! Oakleys are awesome!😃
Man, that guys must have done this commercial a hundred times
I wear prescription glasses. Can I wear it over the Oakley sunglasses?

Is that any Oakley glasses? Or just this model
wow
i should consider Oakley as a substitute for my Gentle Monster which only has UV protection.
