Watched this movie the other day, absolutely FANTASTIC piece. This opening scene is haunting. I really liked how, throughout the movie, it portrays the Christian God as more or less an abusive partner. "You have to say you love him. He freely gave you a gift, but he needs you to devote yourself to him OR ELSE." "Free" gift, my ass.
I remember being a little weirded out after seeing this film a long time ago. Like it was some type of conversion recruitment movies. Coincidentally, my friends and I almost checked out the L Ron Hubbard convention while joy riding downtown around the same time. We didn't realize at the time that it was the Scientology cult. My friends chickened out, wouldn't go in. Not even for the free lunch. I was dying of curiosity, having heard of L Ronnie from tv commercials hawking his books. Would've been frighteningly interesting. But I digress 😄
Not sure why, but somehow I think this is the best scene in the film. It is showing us the doldrum of office life, in terrifying dim light. Presumably a comment on urban alienation.
Excuse me... After I saw this clip last week, I think, I was talking about it to my friend who's never seen it before. Do you or anyone else have any idea where /how to find this film somewhere in 2023??? Thanks!
@@billjoe39 Though I'm American, I've lived in Northern Italy for the past 27 years, so even though there's a public library only two blocks away from my house, it definitely doesn't have any type of film service. When I left the United States, in 1997, I hadn't been aware that public libraries offered that service and maybe they didn't back then, but it's a wonderful thing and you're fortunate to have the ability to do that! I do appreciate your suggestion very much though! I'm going to look into possible ways to get my hands on a copy of this just the same. 🤞 Thanks! Ciao! PS - I shouldn't have assumed that you're in the United States. Sorry about that!
@@annunciataparchesi1832 Hi! That hadn't even occurred to me! The selection I've seen YT offer in the past over here has been awful, but I admit that it's been a very long time since I've checked. Italy used to be as far behind the US as 20 years. Thank heavens it's not anymore, except for things like this. Selection, I mean. I appreciate your suggestion, big time, and the fact that you took the time to try to help me!! It's weird because even though I'm agnostic and not even interested in the subject of religion, this 'little' film remains the most meaningful I've ever seen. Ever. Thanks again, very much!! Ciao!

I now what you mean, I never forget this scene from this movie.
One of my all time favorite films. Thank you!!
I remember this one.
Kinda horrific. Too tough for her own good in the end, wasn't she?

Public library in your area does not carry a copy of this?

From the US I can buy or rent it from youtube, but I don't know if that is possible in other countries.
