he wiped his arse with a horse of the quality of KingMambo , therefore we can safely conclude that Zafonic was an exceptional racehorse out of the top drawer
great stuff, thanks for posting - crackin' commentary from Graham Goode aswell, I always wished that Pat had fully extended Zafonic in the Guineas, the time would have set a record that would never have been surpassed. Unfortunately, due to Pat sitting still, Mister Baileys clocked a faster time the following year! Zafonic, the best Guineas performance ever
Have to say before my time but a true great horse. But hate to say it Frankel destroyed his opponents from start to finish don't think I will see a 2000 gui6field destroyed like that again in my life time. First 2000 guineas I watched was when pennykamp won beating Celtic swing
Zafonic was truly a great miler. Wouldn't it have been interesting to see Brigadier Gerard v Zafonic v Frankel ! Perhaps the 3 best milers I have ever seen.
Barathea went on to be a class horse but Zafonic’s performance in the Guineas was mind blowing! Franker is brilliant, as is Sea of stars but Zafonic is superlative in my opinion..... Dx
Zafonics guineas performance, Was in my opinion...better than frankel. He was 2 seconds quicker, on slower ground!! And he beat better horses, second place, Barathea was exceptional!!
Was 15 at the time, loved Zafonic, won me 11 quid for my fiver!(minus damn tax)lot of money in those days! Quality performance and as you say, Barathea was a great horse so for Zafonic to run away from it like that was amazing. Shame health prevented him from cementing himself as an all time great, RIP
Stopped him being the best!! His guineas, from were he came from......the best l,ve seen! Second Barathea was breeder's cup mile winner! He destroyed him !!
@Stephen Small zafonic on the day of his guineas, would have destroyed el gran senor! Not in same league. Sadly he burst blood vessels, and his career ended.
@@beverleymorris167El Gran Senor is rightly regarded as one of the best milers in history. Chief Singer franked the Guineas' form in no uncertain manner.
I would go as far to say that if it wasnt for poor health Zafonic could and would have been up the Brigadier as the greatest milers of all time. What a shame that his career didnt last as it should have. But def the most devastating 200 guineas winner ive ever seen and that inc BG.
i will always remember both Pat and Zafonic when he powered home in the 2000gns i won alot more than 2000gns! i had 5 Grand on him ante post at 5s and that was 93 when people were all gettin busy slaving their bollox off for peanuts
WESSERPARAQUAT wow, what a touch! I was 10yrs old at the time. But W Buick (The Fugue, Masar), J Doyle (Kingman), Frankie (Galileo Gold), P Hanagan (Muharrar) and bunch of other top horses has made me good winnings over the past 10. Nothing of the calibre of this animal Zafonic but good horses in their own right.
WESSERPARAQUAT 25k is peanuts though. Was you looking down your nose at blue collar grafters after that win? I bet you pissed it up the wall in two days ffs. Did that set you up for life, did it? Commenting from your yacht in the Bahamas off the back of your mighty 25k coup? 😂
