  • O.J. Simpson, the former football great who was accused of and acquitted of the brutal 1994 slayings of his ex-wife and her friend, has died at 76.
His family posted this message on social media:
"On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer."
He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace. -The Simpson Family"
Simpson, nicknamed "The Juice," broke records as a college and professional football player. His celebrity extended after his football career as a sportscaster, an actor, and a corporate spokesman.
Simpson became infamous in 1994 when 95 million Americans watched as his white Ford Bronco led police on a 2-hour, 60-mile, low-speed televised chase through Los Angeles after his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, were brutally murdered h outside of her Brentwood home.
Simpson stood trial for the murders and in October 1995, he was acquitted.
Twelve years later, Simpson was arrested after leading a group of men into a Las Vegas hotel and casino to steal, at gunpoint, what he claims was his own sports memorabilia. Simpson was charged with several felony counts, including kidnapping and armed robbery. The following year, he was found guilty and sentenced to up to 33 years. Simpson was paroled on Oct. 1, 2017.

There's so many things about the trial that so many people who were old enough to see it either just don't know, or don't remember. With lead detective Mark Furhman, for example, so many people only know/remember him for using racial slurs and the defense "played the race card." These people seem to either not know, or remember, that Mark Fuhrman, the lead detective, actually pleaded the fifth at the trial for planting evidence. When you remind people that go "OJ did it" of that, they get completely silent.
*They have NO answer for why the damn lead detective, who was the only one who "found" the "mountain of evidence" against OJ, would plead the fifth for planting evidence* .

@@naithngr81-jh2bb But he wasn’t the lead detective. When the lead detective told him, I’m paraphrasing now, “you can go home now”. He didn’t, he stuck around, went off on his own around OJs property and he so-called found the bloody glove, etc. People seemed to have forgotten that when Johnny Cochran had him in depositions and they discussing the glove he saw at Nicoles condo, Furhman said, “that’s when I saw THEM. But no, the media made no mention of that fact. This case is why I can’t stand the media

OJ, should have moved to another part of the world. He certainly had enough money to do it. One of his attorneys suggested that he do so, but no, he wanted to stay here. I never liked OJ, he was an honorary white man and perceived himself as such. He said he never wanted to wake up and see a nappy headed woman in his bed. However, the Black community stood by him 30 years ago but not when he went to jail the second time. Do I believe he killed those two people? Yes, I do. Did he get away with it? Yes, he did. Was I angry or upset? No, I wasn't. Not when I take into ALL the INJUSTICES MY RACE HAS ENDURED IN THIS COUNTRY.

Faye Reznik told you why Nicole was killed but no one listened to her. Reznik said she (Reznik) was coping drugs from a drug dealer telling them that her friends husband was famous and was good for the money. She also said that when Nicole asked OJ for the money to pay for the drugs he refused to give it to her. Reznik said that when Nicole was killed she went into hiding for fear they would come after her. I always said OJ didn’t kill his wife and friend but he knew who did. Because there is no way a drug dealer is not going to take retribution after he was stiffed for is product. You tell me who is giving their drugs away for free? They tried to frame OJ by wearing the same kind of shoes he wore. What convinced me was upon his return from Chicago he went to the police station he was stripped search and they found nothing but the cut of his finger where OJ said that upon hearing Nicole had been killed he cut his finger picking up broken glass. They ran the luminal wand across his body and found no trace of blood and no bruises or marks like the reporter said. With all the blood it would have soaked through OJs clothes on to the body. Kato Kealin said OJ washed clothes when he got home the night of the murders then took a shower. The cops came in with the luminal solution looking for blood they found nothing. Small drops in the bronco but none on the seats. None in the bathtub and none in the washer. F.Lee Bailey, Robert Kardishian, Robert Shapiro and Alan Dershowitz would have never remained on the case if they thought OJ was guilty. Reznik’s story was enough to create reasonable doubt. But because of the sloppy police work and the sloppy work of the evidence handler plus Johnny Cochran’s attention to detail that theory was never really explored. OJ won his crime of the century case.

Because he would definitely have some fight wounds if the deceased had defense wounds SMH! This will continue to be an unsolved mystery. I agree with the verdict mainly because people have been sentenced to life with less evidence - so they would've gotten him if they could've - and I agree with the verdict theoretically because its hard to believe that one person can stab two people with a knife. I don't know the scenario but you would think someone would run for help. They're not gonna just wait their turn. SMH - We'll never get to the bottom of this. The case was big because of the interracial relationship. White America, and much of black America, were so distracted that they were asleep when a white nationalist terrorist killed a whole bunch of white people (men, women and children) to start a race war. And we stayed asleep until quite recently.
Rich, successful people kill each other all the time. And their cases never warranted nearly this much attention.

We were given the opportunity to watch this trial at work daily. He wouldn't let his attorneys mention that Nicole was doing drugs. It never came out that Ron was gay. He was supposed to go to the blue Moon bar with his lover but chose to go to her house to take sunglasses left by her mother at the restaurant where he worked. Hence his lover was angry. Ron fought because he didn't think dude would kill him too. Furman another lover of Nicole planted the glove.Kado living there still a mystery. She received 60 thousand dollars a month child support and didn't have to live that close to him if she was scared. The bronco ride was devastation on his part. My coworkers an myself all felt Ron's gay lover did the killing out of jealousy. The knife was used from the restaurant and was never found. Restaurant torn down and O.Js home. Thanks Ro for doing this special. It should be mentioned the barriers that O.J.broke as a Black athlete in America that is used as a template for cross-over success for athletes for today.
The unfortunate murder situation is a story that still remains with many unresolved questions, that really became buried with the sensationalism of the court case. It also raised questions about many topics that people are uncomfortable discussing today such as interracial romantic relationships, rich Black athletes with White girlfriends, police corruption, racism, the American legal system, domestic violence and being a wealthy defendant in court.

I notice that no one comments about that fact, or how about that wrestler who killed his wife and son before killing himself. Some people use the excuse that he had CTE.

Don't be ridiculous. It's hard to compare that because hardly anyone knows him. No way close to the cultural impact as O.J., do better.

@@TheCableStrainoh please Robert Blake was a well known actor, since he was a kid. He was accused of murder and he got acquitted too. When he croaked he got condolences, and people were praising his acting skills. It's the same with OJ please
