Thank you for the review! To be honest even for as slow as I’m running (like…7 min/km), the Streakfly is still by far my favourite shoe to run in. All the other “should be” “betters” never worked like the SF for me. I just love the simplicity of it.
Great review. I have watched a lot of UA-cam running shoe reviews and this was one of the most insightful, intelligent and detailed analyses I've seen - a real breath of fresh air. I've never tried the Streakfly, but you've got me interested as like you, I enjoy using a light, flexible nimble shoe to work on foot strike and form as well as it being fun and a change from the high stack, stiff shoes more common these days. I could see the Streakfly perhaps being similar in many ways to the New Balance Fuelcell Rebel (I've only tried V2) but perhaps with the Nike having more structure and propulsion due to the midfoot plate. I'd be interested to know what you think (if you've tried the Rebe)l. Thanks again, and good luck with your channel - on this effort, you deserve to do well.
Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad the content was valuable. I've not tried the Rebel V2. I've seen a few comparisons between the V2 and the SF and you are right, they all commented on the added propulsion of the midfoot shank in the fact the the V2 may be even less durable than the SF. I may take a look at the V4 whenever it comes out. I haven't run in a NB shoe since the original Beacons, so it may be time. Stay tuned.
I've got the Streak fly and the rebel v1. They are both super lightweight and both brilliant. The Nike are a lot more spongy but the rebels are a lot more stable. Both great value for 5k runs.
Great impressions video! Love how you took a different perspective on the Streakfly, I love them on easy runs too and they are my favourite treadmill shoes. I guess the confusion is mainly caused by Nike’s marketing, labelling them as 5/10 racers
Ya, Nike's marketing did the shoe no favors for sure. Glad to know I'm not alone in using them for easy runs as well. They really are remarkable for that.
I purchased a pair a month or so ago, on the basis of this video. I ran a speed session in them and thought they were good, but I ran a 10km race in them last Sunday and now think they are the best racing shoes I have ever worn. I own a pair of Vaporfly, Metaspeed Sky+, Endorphin Pro 1, 2 and 3, and still think they are the best. I have a 15km road race coming up in August and a HM in September and will definitely run in the Streakfly for the 15km, but perhaps even the HM. If the latter happens, I may even consider a marathon in them later in the year or early in 2024. I am 64 and building back from an extended period of illness, so not looking at a marathon in the midterm, although I have a longer-term goal of attempting a sub-3:15-30 marathon on the Gold Coast in July 2024. This shoe might just take me there. Nike have a 15% off sale on their Australian website for another few days, I'm thinking of buying another pair.
This is great to hear. I’m happy to converged a new fan to such a great shoe! Interesting to hear you like them for actual racing. What do you like about them so much specifically? I’m very curious. As you know I love them as well… but always opt for Vaporflys over them for a race.
@@SagasuRunning running shoes are such a subjective, personal thing. I often see people asking for recommendations in Facebook groups, with members then replying with their preferred shoes, as if everyone else should get the same experience out of them. Having said that, I found the Streakfly to suit my running technique perfectly. They had the right amount of cushioning, with out the stiffness of a carbon plated shoes, which as I said, I have multiple different types of these. They just disappeared on my feet and I didn't have to think about them or how I was using them. They gave me good energy return, without being overly stiff, good grip on the wet roads, unlike the Endorphin Pro 2, but mostly they were just really comfortable and I ran a 60+ pb over 10km. I ran almost 2min faster on that course in 2018, but I had specifically trained for the race, it was dry conditions and I was in top condition at the time. I'm now 64 yo and am building back from over 2 years of illness and I ran 0km for the week, just 12 weeks ago. I also ran a 3km club XC the day before. Given all that, I consider the Streakfly helped me run a better performance than in 2018, comparatively speaking.
@@htmonaro1969 really fascinating to read. I do love running fast in the SF and they suit my mechanics nicely too. I also have a background in racing flats and minimal/barefoot running and I really appreciate the natural flex of the SF with the modern super foam. That being said I just got back from my dusky run, in SFs, where I did a middle 3k at near threshold pace and they felt light, fast an amazing. It’s been a while since I’ve run fast and that far in SFs as I mostly do shorter intervals. My 3k time was comparable to what I did in a VF3 in my testing (so same fitness level) but the level of effort + HR was higher in the SF than the VF3. So very subjective and personal… but love reading about how they work for you. Thanks!
I’m a #allblackeverything sort of guy… but I doubt we will ever see that sadly. Nike rarely does dark versions of their “fly” shoes (aka race shoes) and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a triple black one, ever. Maybe the SFs will see some “by you” versions eventually…?

Thank you! It's nearly impossible to find any information or reviews on the Streakfly....same for the New Balance SC Pacer. I'm on my second pair of Pacers and absolutely love them as they are a little lower stack than the Steakflys. Nonetheless, I'm thinking about getting a pair of the Streakfly. My marathon racing shoe is the Vaporfly but I run in lower stack shoes for most everything else. Again, thank you. You have a new subscriber!
I really appreciate your in depth break downs of running shoes, I have a pair of noosa tri 15s and cloudflows but was debating if maybe these would be a good addition for easy runs or doing more intervals, still being new to what works best for my training I’m on the fence going for something plated yet, lifelong subscriber man, keep it up!! 💪🏻
I have a more recent video on these that covers durability. Which isn’t that great for daily trainer. You should be able to find these on sale now/soon as Nike is replacing them with a plated model… if you can find a deal they are worth picking up, just to have, they are a classic now. Another shoe to look at, which wasn’t around when I recorded this video, is the Adidas Supernova Rise. Which you can think of as a Nike Streakfly but built up as a proper trainer. Everything I loved about the Streakfly and easy running…. Is in the Supernova Rise but in a much more durable package. I have multiple videos on my channel about this shoe as well…. Just got mine. Ive put about 8miles on them and find them comfortable and stylish. Im a newer runner so dont have alot to compare them to. I also use Pegasus 40 & Tolos Barefoot shoes to run about 15mi/week. I like the tread better than the pegasus and the weight is fantastic. The low drop is very delicious as well for someone coming from barefoot shoes. I highly recommend these for someone who doesn't mind spending a bit for comfort & performance. They feel great on Your feet.
Given you are coming from barefoot shoes (I did too many years ago) the Streakflys are ideal for you. The perfect “natural shoe” for you to add to barefoot shoes and Peg40s. Enjoy them! 🦶🏻🤙🏻
I was a huge Streak 6/7 user. I ran everything in them up to 56km ultramarathon until the Vaporfly 4%. It was basically perfect. The Streak 7 and the Vaporfly 4% were a great combination. I was distraught when Nike canceled them and have been looking for something similar ever since. I didn’t even consider the StreakFly given early reports from a friend who was also devoted to the Streak 7. The adios 7 is a sad shadow. Maybe the adios 8 is close.
I ran alot in a he Streak series as well. I can say the neither the SF or A8 is the same. However, the A8 is a little closer. Watch my SF vs A8 video, you’ll see a few more points on this. The SF feels like the 4% in a Streak package… less propulsive due to no plate… but similar vibe. The problem main problem between the SF and the Streak is durability. Streaks lasted forever… SFs not so much.
Thank you. I haven't seen anything about a Streakfly 2. Traditionally, the Streak series didn't always get yearly updates so maybe the Streakfly won't either. If I see anything concrete about a SF2, I'll be posting about it for sure. Stay tuned.
I prefer the Rival Fly 3 over the Streakfly. ZoomX can be unstable without a plate. I prefer the firmness of the Cushlon foam although you sacrifice a bit of responsiveness and softer landing but you get great ground feel. Also it is a more durable outsole than what the Streakfly has not to mention half the price.
The Rival Fly 3 is a great shoe but Cushlon foam is not ZoomX. It is very durable though. I have a few hundred miles in a pair.. I really did enjoy them. I don’t find the SF unstable at all. I actually find it incredibly stable due to the natural flex and ground feel. Then again I’m a forefoot striker. I imagine it I engaged the heel I’d have a very different opinion.
I run in Streak 5, 6, 7 like for 5-6 Years amazing ones :) Now as again back to runs - will choose StreakFly even for races - the way how I can feel run within it cannot be compensated by nothing :) Even by faster shoes :) You just love running even more in these shoes :)
You may want to buy a few pairs of these now as they are about to be replaced by Nike. Also you may want to look at the Adidas Adios 8 as it’s closer to the feel of the old Nike Streaks .
Excellent thoughtful review, thank you. Another major factor is the price. It is 100 quid cheaper than the vapourfly. My son a nation level athlete uses these and loves them. They are a very good 5km race show as well. To me they seem akin to what the Nike Turbo 3 may have been like if Nike had produced it.
Thanks for your review. I like the feeling of lower stack shoes. I don’t understand why people are so fixated on the extreme cushion shoes, although I appreciate that the carbon plates could be faster for races. My impression though is that they teach bad habits like over relying on heal striking instead of building ankle strength. I’m planning to switch back to this or the adidas adios 8
@@SagasuRunning Thanks for the reply. I also heard the hyper speed from ASICS is a good option. I’d be interested to see a comparison of the three. My impression is the hyper speed is more of a budget shoe, the streakfly is more race oriented and the Adios 8 is more durable with a bit more spring, but I haven’t tested any of them. They all seem pretty good though!
@@stuarthys9879 The Hyper Speed is less of a budget option and more of an old school option. It’s a rare non-super foam/tech old school racing flat. Once I can get a pair of the HS3 I will be covering them and plan to compare all three. Stay tuned. 🤙🏻

And specially for daily milage its a blast. Problem is as so often nike has promoted the shoe as a race-day shoe and that it is not! Cheers and good luck !

No it’s a replica of the vapor fly for track racing but is not eligible for tracks as it has too much heel drop meaning it’s directly a track training shoe, not a road running shoe, too little cushion for that, and not a road race shoe for the same reason, it’s a track and field running shoe. Weird speculation but that’s the direct design for it as in reality you wouldn’t run 10k with this little cushion unless you’re training for running it in track spikes

A great road running shoe (look back 10 years with what stack people did run marathons … maybe runners got to weak now ? ;). Only thing I agree is it’s not for competitions of any distance . Very good and informative review. Are these ok in light trails too in your opinion? I do mainly 5K parkruns (which are 50/50 path/trails), road training, again more light trail up hill/downhill and some 10K. I am looking for a light shoe, with comfort as kind of an all rounder for now and found the Pegasus 40 too heavy. Any comments or advice would be appreciated to stop me ordering another truck load of trainers! 😂
I'd not take these on trails. The exposed ZoomX will be destroyed quickly. Dirt/sand is ok, but rocks will destroy this shoe fast. Plus you'll feel them through the midsole, not fun. Take a look at the Adidas Adios 8. It's not as lightweight as the Streakfly, but it's much less than a Peg40...and it's FAR more durable. I actually think it's the best all-arounder Adidas makes. Great review did they come with creases on the soles? 🤔 I bought a pair of Nike zoom fly 5's and out of the box they had creases down the side of the soles is this normal 🤔
ZoomX foam is know to have creases when new often, especially after wear. However the ZF5s are not ZoomX, on the outside at least. They use a different foam around the ZoomX foam. It can also crease when new but much less then ZoomX.
Nothing that has the lower stack like the Turbo. Honestly… the SF isn’t that bad. The Invincible 3 is durable and ZoomX but max cushion, the Peg 39/40 isn’t ZoomX but it is durable with some of the Turbo/SF feel… even outside of Nike, the Atreyu base model and New Balance Rebel series are not that durable.
Yes, BUT… as long as you are ok with about 150mi (240km) in wear until you need to replace, maybe a bit more (or less) depending on your foot strike. Pairing the SF with a Peg or a Adidas Adios 8 is more optimal (I have a video comparing the Streakfly with the Adios 8 if you are interested). Thank you for the kind words. It is impossible for me to say. it comes down to your preference. What I'd do is a 5k time-trial in both shoes, at your projected pace and see which one is faster/feels better. It is likely the carbon fiber plate in the VF, even with 300km on it, is still going to benefit you over the 10k distance though...
Are these good for 5-8k races? Im not biggest plated fan, esp not for 5k races ,maybe 10k up to the marathon. I like the look n feel of a traditional racer my self than a big high heel shoe
They are, especially if you dislike plated shoes for the distance. These are softer than you’d expect but still quite fast. The Adidas Adios 8 is another option to look at for that distance in a non-plated shoe.
I purchased a pair for 45%+ off. Relatively new runner. I find they are very, very fast for anything 5k and under but leave my legs and feet feeling sore for a day or two. Like you said its building up my leg and foot strength. I wish I could run in them more often but sadly my legs just cant take it. I love running in them on soft surfaces like grassy fields. There I can really push hard without too much worry about leg/foot soreness. I set my 1 mile PR in them last week so naturally I think they are an amazing shoe. I ordered a 2nd pair while they were still 77$
Part of being a new runner is building run durability. This is a hard shoe to start in for sure. But it sounds like you are doing it right. Rotate the SF with other shoes and little by little build that durability and foot strength. Alternating surfaces helps alot too. Keep it up. Using it to set those PRs is spot on too!
as a student I thought about investing in these but I cannot because of the longevity of the shoe, I do 5kms everyday so they will burn out in 2-2.5months max as per your 200miles data, so now again I have to look for something else, is pegasus 39 a long lasting shoe? durability is my main concern.
The Peg 39/40 is a good choice if durability is your focus. It’s the shoe I do most of my weekly miles in and I find that is compliments the SF well. The SF is much lighter and faster. The Peg using React foam and not ZoomX foam. But you get some of the feel from the SF in the Peg. Durability is the trade off for super lightweight shoes. The NB Rebel series has the same issue. So the Peg is a good choice. Definitely not the same shoe… but enough of SF fun in it + much more durability. I usually retire my shoes around 250miles, regardless… but I’ve taken Peg 37 & 38 over 700 miles in a pair and Peg 39s over 400.
If you have strong feet. I’d not recommend it unless you have a history of racing in racing flats. It will handle the distance. I’ve run a half in SFs a few times, but only as an easy run, never as a race.
I have noticed the upper stretching in the toe box after 200miles, but the foam still feels fine. It’s most the outsole is showing massive wear by then for me.
“Lower stack”. If it’s not 23h 13t, I don’t want it. Even for a marathon, 23/13 is perfect. I want to feel the ground. NB rc1400 were the best shoe ever IMO. But apparently I’m in he minority! BTW I have the streakfly 2. It’s cool. But this thick, poofy foam feels so unstable. Really isn’t my jam. It being referred to as minimal boggles the mind, but in this era of ultra chunky clodhoppers it is indeed minimal. But I look forward to the day of lower profile shoes being a thing again.
I’m a big fan of low(er) stack shoes but the days of 13mm forefoots are LONG gone and never coming back. While o do think we will see lower stack shoes again, I doubt they will go under 20mm in the forefoot, maybe even 23mm. I have found memories of the Adidas Boston 9 at 21/13@8mm but we will never see that again. You have the Streakfly 2? How? Is the toe spring as aggressive as it looks? What are the stack heights of your shoes? I’ve seen 149g for US9… true?
It depends on what you want to do. If you are looking to race longer distances the AF2 is the better option. But with low arches it could give you issues. The AF2 is known to cause arch issues in some people. The SF is for short faster running and doesn’t have the arch issue. Mike’s are narrow but both are not super narrow for Nike race shoes, especially the SF.

As I said for antoher Streafly review.....runners today have gotten "soft" following the trend of relying on "high stack cuashiod midsoles"....the closter to 40mm the better!~ But, if you think about the basic physics of---higher you are off the ground the less "road feel, the less handling ability...." likewise with a sports-car. Same principle. Runners should work on their conditioning/form and worry less about he "tire (shoe)". ..it's everything ELSE behind the tire/shoe....that's responsible (MORE so) for the handling and maybe win.... I woonder when the shoe companies will start marketing "flats" again.....over "high stack" "tug boat of a she " e.g. Alphafly.....
I do agree that high stack and plated shoes are a bit overdone right now, but there isn’t anything wrong with them either. The industry is in a full on max cushion phase but it will swing back the other direction eventually. Everything in the running industry goes in cycles.
Agree fully. I love them. I use them for most of my training runs , as the high stack bulky shoes do not suit my running style. I have used them for a few of my 5k races with good result also, although I probably think my favourite for racing is the VF Flyknit4%. The later VF versions have too much stack and just dont work for me.

I wonder how bad are the website (here Nike) guides, so neglected, misleading or missing at all. Only after this review I've started thinking of this shoe as an easy + fast reps option. The SF’s DNA is in the Streak and Mayfly series, both road running series. While there was a Streak LT track shoe… it was a very different shoe form the road streak.

Having said that, I found the Streakfly to suit my running technique perfectly. They had the right amount of cushioning, with out the stiffness of a carbon plated shoes, which as I said, I have multiple different types of these. They just disappeared on my feet and I didn't have to think about them or how I was using them. They gave me good energy return, without being overly stiff, good grip on the wet roads, unlike the Endorphin Pro 2, but mostly they were just really comfortable and I ran a 60+ pb over 10km. I ran almost 2min faster on that course in 2018, but I had specifically trained for the race, it was dry conditions and I was in top condition at the time. I'm now 64 yo and am building back from over 2 years of illness and I ran 0km for the week, just 12 weeks ago. I also ran a 3km club XC the day before. Given all that, I consider the Streakfly helped me run a better performance than in 2018, comparatively speaking.
@@htmonaro1969 really fascinating to read. I do love running fast in the SF and they suit my mechanics nicely too. I also have a background in racing flats and minimal/barefoot running and I really appreciate the natural flex of the SF with the modern super foam.
That being said I just got back from my dusky run, in SFs, where I did a middle 3k at near threshold pace and they felt light, fast an amazing. It’s been a while since I’ve run fast and that far in SFs as I mostly do shorter intervals.
My 3k time was comparable to what I did in a VF3 in my testing (so same fitness level) but the level of effort + HR was higher in the SF than the VF3.
So very subjective and personal… but love reading about how they work for you. Thanks!

I’m a #allblackeverything sort of guy… but I doubt we will ever see that sadly. Nike rarely does dark versions of their “fly” shoes (aka race shoes) and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a triple black one, ever. Maybe the SFs will see some “by you” versions eventually…?

I'm on my second pair of Pacers and absolutely love them as they are a little lower stack than the Steakflys. Nonetheless, I'm thinking about getting a pair of the Streakfly. My marathon racing shoe is the Vaporfly but I run in lower stack shoes for most everything else. Again, thank you. You have a new subscriber!
Glad you found value here. The SF is definitely a shoe that many reviewers seemed to write off when it wasn't like the VF. It really is a hidden gem.
I really appreciate your in depth break downs of running shoes, I have a pair of noosa tri 15s and cloudflows but was debating if maybe these would be a good addition for easy runs or doing more intervals, still being new to what works best for my training I’m on the fence going for something plated yet, lifelong subscriber man, keep it up!! 💪🏻
I have a more recent video on these that covers durability. Which isn’t that great for daily trainer. You should be able to find these on sale now/soon as Nike is replacing them with a plated model… if you can find a deal they are worth picking up, just to have, they are a classic now.
Another shoe to look at, which wasn’t around when I recorded this video, is the Adidas Supernova Rise. Which you can think of as a Nike Streakfly but built up as a proper trainer. Everything I loved about the Streakfly and easy running…. Is in the Supernova Rise but in a much more durable package. I have multiple videos on my channel about this shoe as well…. All in the past few months.

Just got mine. Ive put about 8miles on them and find them comfortable and stylish. Im a newer runner so dont have alot to compare them to. I also use Pegasus 40 & Tolos Barefoot shoes to run about 15mi/week. I like the tread better than the pegasus and the weight is fantastic. The low drop is very delicious as well for someone coming from barefoot shoes. I highly recommend these for someone who doesn't mind spending a bit for comfort & performance. They feel great on Your feet.
Given you are coming from barefoot shoes (I did too many years ago) the Streakflys are ideal for you. The perfect “natural shoe” for you to add to barefoot shoes and Peg40s.

I was a huge Streak 6/7 user. I ran everything in them up to 56km ultramarathon until the Vaporfly 4%. It was basically perfect. The Streak 7 and the Vaporfly 4% were a great combination. I was distraught when Nike canceled them and have been looking for something similar ever since.
I didn’t even consider the StreakFly given early reports from a friend who was also devoted to the Streak 7. The adios 7 is a sad shadow. Maybe the adios 8 is close.
I ran alot in a he Streak series as well. I can say the neither the SF or A8 is the same. However, the A8 is a little closer. Watch my SF vs A8 video, you’ll see a few more points on this.
The SF feels like the 4% in a Streak package… less propulsive due to no plate… but similar vibe.
The problem main problem between the SF and the Streak is durability. Streaks lasted forever… SFs not so much.

Thank you. I haven't seen anything about a Streakfly 2. Traditionally, the Streak series didn't always get yearly updates so maybe the Streakfly won't either. If I see anything concrete about a SF2, I'll be posting about it for sure. Stay tuned.
I prefer the Rival Fly 3 over the Streakfly. ZoomX can be unstable without a plate. I prefer the firmness of the Cushlon foam although you sacrifice a bit of responsiveness and softer landing but you get great ground feel. Also it is a more durable outsole than what the Streakfly has not to mention half the price.
The Rival Fly 3 is a great shoe but Cushlon foam is not ZoomX. It is very durable though.
I have a few hundred miles in a pair.. I really did enjoy them.
I don’t find the SF unstable at all. I actually find it incredibly stable due to the natural flex and ground feel. Then again I’m a forefoot striker. I imagine it I engaged the heel I’d have a very different opinion.
I run in Streak 5, 6, 7 like for 5-6 Years amazing ones :) Now as again back to runs - will choose StreakFly even for races - the way how I can feel run within it cannot be compensated by nothing :) Even by faster shoes :) You just love running even more in these shoes :)
You may want to buy a few pairs of these now as they are about to be replaced by Nike. Also you may want to look at the Adidas Adios 8 as it’s closer to the feel of the old Nike Streaks .
The best use in my opinion is for 5 k road racing /Track intervals and for Racing road10 k in above go with a full carbon plated shoe.
Agree on the carbon plate… it’s always going to be faster.
Excellent thoughtful review, thank you. Another major factor is the price. It is 100 quid cheaper than the vapourfly. My son a nation level athlete uses these and loves them. They are a very good 5km race show as well. To me they seem akin to what the Nike Turbo 3 may have been like if Nike had produced it.

I don’t understand why people are so fixated on the extreme cushion shoes, although I appreciate that the carbon plates could be faster for races. My impression though is that they teach bad habits like over relying on heal striking instead of building ankle strength. I’m planning to switch back to this or the adidas adios 8

My impression is the hyper speed is more of a budget shoe, the streakfly is more race oriented and the Adios 8 is more durable with a bit more spring, but I haven’t tested any of them. They all seem pretty good though!
@@stuarthys9879 The Hyper Speed is less of a budget option and more of an old school option. It’s a rare non-super foam/tech old school racing flat.

As for a walking shoe… nope, the SF would be a horrible choice for that due to durability, mostly in the heel. They wouldn’t last very long at all sadly.

No it’s a replica of the vapor fly for track racing but is not eligible for tracks as it has too much heel drop meaning it’s directly a track training shoe, not a road running shoe, too little cushion for that, and not a road race shoe for the same reason, it’s a track and field running shoe. Weird speculation but that’s the direct design for it as in reality you wouldn’t run 10k with this little cushion unless you’re training for running it in track spikes

Very good and informative review. Are these ok in light trails too in your opinion? I do mainly 5K parkruns (which are 50/50 path/trails), road training, again more light trail up hill/downhill and some 10K. I am looking for a light shoe, with comfort as kind of an all rounder for now and found the Pegasus 40 too heavy. Any comments or advice would be appreciated to stop me ordering another truck load of trainers! 😂
I'd not take these on trails. The exposed ZoomX will be destroyed quickly. Dirt/sand is ok, but rocks will destroy this shoe fast. Plus you'll feel them through the midsole, not fun.
Take a look at the Adidas Adios 8. It's not as lightweight as the Streakfly, but it's much less than a Peg40...and it's FAR more durable. I actually think it's the best all-arounder Adidas makes.

Great review did they come with creases on the soles? 🤔 I bought a pair of Nike zoom fly 5's and out of the box they had creases down the side of the soles is this normal 🤔
ZoomX foam is know to have creases when new often, especially after wear. However the ZF5s are not ZoomX, on the outside at least. They use a different foam around the ZoomX foam. It can also crease when new but much less then ZoomX.
Is there a shoe that have the zoom x branding/feel but durable, like the turbos where the cushion is an amalgam of nike react/cushlon and zoom x
Nothing that has the lower stack like the Turbo. Honestly… the SF isn’t that bad. The Invincible 3 is durable and ZoomX but max cushion, the Peg 39/40 isn’t ZoomX but it is durable with some of the Turbo/SF feel… even outside of Nike, the Atreyu base model and New Balance Rebel series are not that durable.

Yes, BUT… as long as you are ok with about 150mi (240km) in wear until you need to replace, maybe a bit more (or less) depending on your foot strike.
Pairing the SF with a Peg or a Adidas Adios 8 is more optimal (I have a video comparing the Streakfly with the Adios 8 if you are interested).

It is impossible for me to say. it comes down to your preference. What I'd do is a 5k time-trial in both shoes, at your projected pace and see which one is faster/feels better. It is likely the carbon fiber plate in the VF, even with 300km on it, is still going to benefit you over the 10k distance though...
Are these good for 5-8k races? Im not biggest plated fan, esp not for 5k races ,maybe 10k up to the marathon. I like the look n feel of a traditional racer my self than a big high heel shoe
They are, especially if you dislike plated shoes for the distance. These are softer than you’d expect but still quite fast. The Adidas Adios 8 is another option to look at for that distance in a non-plated shoe.

I purchased a pair for 45%+ off. Relatively new runner. I find they are very, very fast for anything 5k and under but leave my legs and feet feeling sore for a day or two. Like you said its building up my leg and foot strength. I wish I could run in them more often but sadly my legs just cant take it. I love running in them on soft surfaces like grassy fields. There I can really push hard without too much worry about leg/foot soreness. I set my 1 mile PR in them last week so naturally I think they are an amazing shoe. I ordered a 2nd pair while they were still 77$
Part of being a new runner is building run durability. This is a hard shoe to start in for sure. But it sounds like you are doing it right. Rotate the SF with other shoes and little by little build that durability and foot strength. Alternating surfaces helps alot too. Keep it up.
Using it to set those PRs is spot on too!
as a student I thought about investing in these but I cannot because of the longevity of the shoe, I do 5kms everyday so they will burn out in 2-2.5months max as per your 200miles data, so now again I have to look for something else, is pegasus 39 a long lasting shoe? durability is my main concern.
The Peg 39/40 is a good choice if durability is your focus. It’s the shoe I do most of my weekly miles in and I find that is compliments the SF well. The SF is much lighter and faster. The Peg using React foam and not ZoomX foam. But you get some of the feel from the SF in the Peg.
Durability is the trade off for super lightweight shoes. The NB Rebel series has the same issue.
So the Peg is a good choice. Definitely not the same shoe… but enough of SF fun in it + much more durability. I usually retire my shoes around 250miles, regardless… but I’ve taken Peg 37 & 38 over 700 miles in a pair and Peg 39s over 400.

That’s what I do very often. I get about 200-250mi in a pair. I could probably get more but I rarely push any shoe past that distance.
I tend to run 5-10km but have a half marathon in September. Would the streakfly hold up to a HM?
If you have strong feet. I’d not recommend it unless you have a history of racing in racing flats.
It will handle the distance. I’ve run a half in SFs a few times, but only as an easy run, never as a race.

How is the durability?
Good enough for what the shoe is but not good enough to use as a daily trainer. At least not your only daily trainer.
I love these shoes the only issue they lose their propulsione after a while and they become really big after some time
I have noticed the upper stretching in the toe box after 200miles, but the foam still feels fine. It’s most the outsole is showing massive wear by then for me.
“Lower stack”. If it’s not 23h 13t, I don’t want it. Even for a marathon, 23/13 is perfect. I want to feel the ground.
NB rc1400 were the best shoe ever IMO. But apparently I’m in he minority!
BTW I have the streakfly 2. It’s cool. But this thick, poofy foam feels so unstable. Really isn’t my jam. It being referred to as minimal boggles the mind, but in this era of ultra chunky clodhoppers it is indeed minimal. But I look forward to the day of lower profile shoes being a thing again.
I’m a big fan of low(er) stack shoes but the days of 13mm forefoots are LONG gone and never coming back. While o do think we will see lower stack shoes again, I doubt they will go under 20mm in the forefoot, maybe even 23mm. I have found memories of the Adidas Boston 9 at 21/13@8mm but we will never see that again.
You have the Streakfly 2? How? Is the toe spring as aggressive as it looks? What are the stack heights of your shoes? I’ve seen 149g for US9… true?
Are these too narrow for flat feet runners? I run in Pegasus 39's but looking to see if these or the alphaflys would fit well or come up to narrow
It depends on what you want to do. If you are looking to race longer distances the AF2 is the better option. But with low arches it could give you issues. The AF2 is known to cause arch issues in some people. The SF is for short faster running and doesn’t have the arch issue. Mike’s are narrow but both are not super narrow for Nike race shoes, especially the SF.

As I said for antoher Streafly review.....runners today have gotten "soft" following the trend of relying on "high stack cuashiod midsoles"....the closter to 40mm the better!~ But, if you think about the basic physics of---higher you are off the ground the less "road feel, the less handling ability...." likewise with a sports-car. Same principle. Runners should work on their conditioning/form and worry less about he "tire (shoe)". ..it's everything ELSE behind the tire/shoe....that's responsible (MORE so) for the handling and maybe win....
I woonder when the shoe companies will start marketing "flats" again.....over "high stack" "tug boat of a she " e.g. Alphafly.....
I do agree that high stack and plated shoes are a bit overdone right now, but there isn’t anything wrong with them either. The industry is in a full on max cushion phase but it will swing back the other direction eventually. Everything in the running industry goes in cycles.
Agree fully. I love them. I use them for most of my training runs , as the high stack bulky shoes do not suit my running style. I have used them for a few of my 5k races with good result also, although I probably think my favourite for racing is the VF Flyknit4%. The later VF versions have too much stack and just dont work for me.

Is supposed to be like a cushioned extended track training shoe so you can train for track races but also not blow out your joints
The SF’s DNA is in the Streak and Mayfly series, both road running series. While there was a Streak LT track shoe… it was a very different shoe form the road streak.
