The amount of neck the devs give charizard is astounding, like bruh ya got well over 30 starters and he's always first to get introduced, and gets a new form(or 2 if anyone else is getting 1)
Is it really all that surprising though? I mean Ash was never really canonically in those universes to begin with, why have a Greninja form that is a direct reference to someone that does not exist in that universe?

The good part I think so is now battle bond is like a moxie in steroids because each time you defeat a pokemon you get a bust in atack, sp atack and speed

I always found it weird that they didn't give the Karlos starters mega evolutions, but then only gave Greninja a special form one gen later. Its basically Charizard 2 with all the love that it got.

I just wish that the Battle Bond wasn’t Ash Greninja, but a coloration of your character. That’s how you know that that was just an anime exclusive thing. Plus they never got into Full detail as to why Battle Bond effects only Greninja.
In the anime it was shown there was a battle bond for also a pidgeot and another pokemon, but those were the only two other than greninja with a battle bond

The battle bond thing is unforgivable. But honestly the nerf for protean was understandable. Pre nerf protean would basically make terastalizing useless for Greninja, if not that it would break it since their can change their Tera type every turn. Hopefully they bring the og protean back for a future gen.
They took away mega why would they leave battle bond? Protean and libero would go against the new terra mechanic I'm guessing that's the reason why they got nerfed.
As dumb as that deduction sounds, I somehow wouldn't be surprised if that was the actual reason. I say that because every Gen, something gets nerfed way too hard and the powercreep just makes the meta suffer.

Ash Greninja was easily the best thing Pokemon has ever added to the series. Mega Evolution was dope and a very cool concept, but the Bond Phenomenon was unique to Ash and Greninja as of now, and it was Ash’s alternative to Mega Evolution. In a way, Ash and Greninja were able to obtain a kind of evolution without the use of the stones using only their pure fucking willpower. All of these things come together as the best badass thing Pokémon has ever created. We will forever remember the true MVP of Pokémon 🔥🔥
Dude no… the games and the show needed to remain separate I mean I love the games but hate ash Greninja with a passion… Greninja was my Kalos starter and I loved using her but despised ash Greninja because it never felt like my Pokémon it felt like a cheep marketing gimmick. The nerfing of Protean and Libero needed to happen otherwise pokemon with that ability would get STAB every freaking turn thus making fighting it a chore.
My guess as to why Ash-Greninja got Thanos snapped out of existence was probably because Game Freak saw Battle Bond as basically a free Mega Evolution, and since Megas of course aren't in SV, they wanted to keep things more fair and balanced, hence why they changed Battle Bond to not have the Ash-Greninja transformation, again this is just my guess
yea probably what sucks is that palafin in hero form has 10 more stats than ash greninja and turning it into hero form is a lot easier than getting a ko with gren, so they didn't need to nerf it

Aside from only Greninja getting battle bond instead of the other kalos starters (which many complained about), it didn't get any more preferential treatment. Meanwhile charizard got 2 megas, A Gmax form and is the toughest raid pokemon in SV where it is also the only kanto starter to appear.
Them nerfing protean was honestly a good call it got cinderace banned from SS OU in swsh and was very hard to counter but them getting rid of ash greninja is just offensive 😭
I can see why they did these things First off, Mega Evolution got the boot, so they figured they might as well axe what was essentially Mega Greninja Second, the whole generations gimmick is literally changing your type, so as it was, Protean/Libero was essentially free Terastal WITH a Tera boost every turn. Also the ability was extremely overpowered as it was.
the only exception being that tera into the same type as original gives adaptibility boost, this also makes cinderace the best of the 3 protein/libero mons, as it can use fire type moves with proccing libero and then another type move, whereas since both meowscarada and greninja have dual types they will change to the type which makes them worse (ik cinderace isn't in the game, would be awful if in the next game, protein is still nerfed but libero isn't)
I feel like the company intentionally highlights certain Pokémon and then will move on to the next one as a marketing strategy. They are just testing which characters will perform the most consistent.

They can do whatever they want (technically), but as a fan who has supported the company literally since it’s birth; I’d be quite disappointed if they “did whatever they want.”

I have seen the newer anime and could see why they would be having trouble with the show. The new stuff seems real regurgitated and uninspired. But the mainline games are super tight, especially Scarlet/Violet! And the cards are still going strong too!

I really don't see why they removed Ash-Greninja when they've given Palafin a similar; if not more broken, ability. The new battle-bond isn't even a balance change either- it actually raises Greninja's speed higher than before; so it's clear they just wanted to remove the transformation for whatever reason....
not only that, but they were petty enough to give the cat literally 1 more point of base speed (123 vs Gren's 122) and to those saying "don't care, protean was OP anyway," there is some middle ground that they could have gone to; now it is literally just a worse Terastal.
I have a feeling that reason they got rid of Ash-Greninja was so they can give other Pokémon the Battle Bond Ability, like for Lucario or Charizard. I willing to bet when we get Pikachu in a Cap again in events, it will have the Battle Bond Ability, just so the anime can say that Ash's Pikachu has Battle Bond. I'm also thinking they might reuse Ash-Greninja's design for Mega Greninja when we eventually get a Gen 6 remake.
That's actually a good perspective. Hopefully it does pan out that way. And hopefully they'll learn in the future not to make abilities quite so single-pokemon focused lol
they got rid of ash greninja because megas are gone (how did yall not expect that to happen). protean got nerfed because of terrastillization, and the risk of meowscarda, cinderace, and greninja running away with the Metagame again. pretty sure greninja is still gonna be very viable.

I think you're right. Plus even before the nerf, choice item sets for sweepers like those are pretty common anyways and those items would lock the first move they use.
@Satoshi_gekkouga the difference is, one, palafin is common, everyone can get one, unlike ash greninja who is relegated to rare events 2. Palafin in base form is weak, so weak to the point it makes it exploitable (and is in ubers anyways where it wont do much). Greninja already has decent enough stats in base form. 3. Ash Greninja is literally a gimmick made for a main character in the anime so that they could keep up with mega evolution. It is essentially just a mega evolution hence why it is gone. 4. If they kept ash greninja, they would still be unfair to the other 2 kalos starters who got done dirty because of it. 5. Did I mention the fact megas are gone. 6. Before you say anything, palafin is not a mega, it's a gimmick and it is its sole ability unlike ash greninja who was an event pokemon distributed from a character who is literally from the animal. 7. If greninja kept it, he would just get banned to ubers and would not do well there, as it would destroy current ou. 8. Greninja is not the only pokemon getting hard nerfed (which it honestly deserves). Weavile, Blissey, Toxepex, Landorous T, Rillaboom, Cinderace, and many more got hard nerfed.
I'm fine with the changes with Protean. Battle Bond Greninja changes actually gives me hope that Battle Bond isn't going to be a Greninja exclusive ability anymore.

The only reason why the form was in Sun and Moon was because it was a demo exclusive gift. If they only put battle bond in Sun and moon without the demo, they might not put the form in. Plus the Game Freak staff might be too exhausted to put Ash Greninja in the Scarlet and Violet and so we should hope they bring the form back in a future update. Plus in Nemona's house, there's a picture of Ash Greninja.

My theory on why Ash Greninja isn't in Scarlet and Violet is because that the form was exclusively to Ash, so if they made a form for the player, they would have to make millions of forms. Plus I think that when Ash released Greninja, it caused the form to disappear. So if they want to bring the form back, Ash needs to re-catch Greninja.
That makes no sense because while Ash did release Greninja, he technically never got rid of his Pokéball. Plus, it doesn't explain why Journeys redrew a scene that featured Ash-Greninja.

Pre nerf protean would basically make terastalizing useless for Greninja, if not that it would break it since their can change their Tera type every turn. Hopefully they bring the og protean back for a future gen.

Ash Greninja was easily the best thing Pokemon has ever added to the series. Mega Evolution was dope and a very cool concept, but the Bond Phenomenon was unique to Ash and Greninja as of now, and it was Ash’s alternative to Mega Evolution. In a way, Ash and Greninja were able to obtain a kind of evolution without the use of the stones using only their pure fucking willpower. Dude no… the games and the show needed to remain separate I mean I love the games but hate ash Greninja with a passion… Greninja was my Kalos starter and I loved using her but despised ash Greninja because it never felt like my Pokémon it felt like a cheep marketing gimmick. The nerfing of Protean and Libero needed to happen otherwise pokemon with that ability would get STAB every freaking turn thus making fighting it a chore.
My guess as to why Ash-Greninja got Thanos snapped out of existence was probably because Game Freak saw Battle Bond as basically a free Mega Evolution, and since Megas of course aren't in SV, they wanted to keep things more fair and balanced, hence why they changed Battle Bond to not have the Ash-Greninja transformation, again this is just my guess
yea probably what sucks is that palafin in hero form has 10 more stats than ash greninja and turning it into hero form is a lot easier than getting a ko with gren, so they didn't need to nerf it

I can see why they did these things
First off, Mega Evolution got the boot, so they figured they might as well axe what was essentially Mega Greninja
Second, the whole generations gimmick is literally changing your type, so as it was, Protean/Libero was essentially free Terastal WITH a Tera boost every turn. Also the ability was extremely overpowered as it was.
the only exception being that tera into the same type as original gives adaptibility boost, this also makes cinderace the best of the 3 protein/libero mons, as it can use fire type moves with proccing libero and then another type move, whereas since both meowscarada and greninja have dual types they will change to the type which makes them worse (ik cinderace isn't in the game, would be awful if in the next game, protein is still nerfed but libero isn't)
But mega palafin is okay?

I have seen the newer anime and could see why they would be having trouble with the show. The new stuff seems real regurgitated and uninspired. I have a feeling that reason they got rid of Ash-Greninja was so they can give other Pokémon the Battle Bond Ability, like for Lucario or Charizard. I willing to bet when we get Pikachu in a Cap again in events, it will have the Battle Bond Ability, just so the anime can say that Ash's Pikachu has Battle Bond.
I'm also thinking they might reuse Ash-Greninja's design for Mega Greninja when we eventually get a Gen 6 remake.

I think you're right. Plus even before the nerf, choice item sets for sweepers like those are pretty common anyways and those items would lock the first move they use.

2. Palafin in base form is weak, so weak to the point it makes it exploitable (and is in ubers anyways where it wont do much). Greninja already has decent enough stats in base form.
3. Ash Greninja is literally a gimmick made for a main character in the anime so that they could keep up with mega evolution. It is essentially just a mega evolution hence why it is gone.
4. If they kept ash greninja, they would still be unfair to the other 2 kalos starters who got done dirty because of it.
5. Did I mention the fact megas are gone.
6. Before you say anything, palafin is not a mega, it's a gimmick and it is its sole ability unlike ash greninja who was an event pokemon distributed from a character who is literally from the animal.
7. If greninja kept it, he would just get banned to ubers and would not do well there, as it would destroy current ou.
8. Greninja is not the only pokemon getting hard nerfed (which it honestly deserves). Weavile, Blissey, Toxepex, Landorous T, Rillaboom, Cinderace, and many more got hard nerfed.

The only reason why the form was in Sun and Moon was because it was a demo exclusive gift. If they only put battle bond in Sun and moon without the demo, they might not put the form in. Plus the Game Freak staff might be too exhausted to put Ash Greninja in the Scarlet and Violet and so we should hope they bring the form back in a future update. Plus in Nemona's house, there's a picture of Ash Greninja.

I think it’s because protean would mess with the terastalizing gimmick because you’re not supposed to have your type changed whole terastalizing. I tried it out on showdown and moves like soak amend reflect type wouldn’t work on it
they could have just had either the ability not work while terastalizing or not allow protein mons to terastalize

My theory on why Ash Greninja isn't in Scarlet and Violet is because that the form was exclusively to Ash, so if they made a form for the player, they would have to make millions of forms. Plus I think that when Ash released Greninja, it caused the form to disappear. So if they want to bring the form back, Ash needs to re-catch Greninja.
