One of those 'Saloon Car' Buick GNX's sold at a Barret-Jackson auction for $275, 000.00. That model and even the lower performance (it looked pretty much the same on the outside) Buick Grand National are absolutely coveted cars in the US.
My step-dad worked for GM and had a GNX stage 1 when I was a senior in high school. One day he just hands me the keys and said don’t wreck it. OMG.. best day of my life to that point! It was wonderful!
Being 76 years old now, I owned, drove and rode in just about every muscle built in the late 1960's and early 1970's. I guess 454 Chevelles, 440 six pac mopars, and Gm's 455 Buicks, Olds, and Pontiacs were just so brutal. Since you are talking about 7.4 and 7.5 liter engines, do not just go by their horsepower numbers but it was the massive torque these engines produced. They really put you back in the seat. So glad I got to experience them.
Buick made some of the best muscle cars. 1965 Buick Skylark Gran Sport. 1969 Buick Gran Sport Stage 1. 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1. 1973 Buick Gran Sport Stage 1.
The Carroll Shelby museum and Shelby Mustang factory are in Vegas. If you call ahead for times and days, they will give a tour of the factory and/or the museum. Carroll Shelby passed a few years back but his legacy lives on.
I have a 65 Oldsmobile cutlass. I think “muscle car” has more to do with engine size and power than it has to do with the “look” of the car Mine just has the standard 330 small block v8. Maybe someday I’ll throw a bigger engine in it and give it some more power, but I’m good with what it is for now
I worked at a performance motorshop in high school. Even back in 2006 the GNX was SUPER rare, and coveted. They must be worth a fortune now. You'll literally never see one on the road.
In 1970, the Chevelle SS 454 was topped by its corporate sibling, the Buick GS 455 Stage 1. You don't see many GM products because they sold their European Opel and Vauxhall brands to Peugeot in 2016.
The Cobra kit cars are about $85,000 in US completed; $21,000 for the basic kit with the rest labor cost. So a do it yourself mechanic can get a great deal. Their title is an authentic 1965 Shelby Cobra Title and Registration as they are authorized by Ford and Shelby.
He doesn't mention the change from SAE gross HP to net HP ratings in 1972. For example, the Corvette’s optional LT-1 350 cu. in. small block V-8 had 370 gross hp in 1970 (with 11:1 compression), then a 330 hp gross rating (with 9:1 compression) for 1971-1972 with a 255 hp net rating.
Favorite muscle car? My late fathe re- built a 61' hardtop convertible vette he found in a boneyard. That is the best looking car I've ever seen. Miss ya pops. But a close 2nd has got to be the 69' camero w/ Cragers and blue/ white stripes.
That race track @ 8:30 is across the street from where my parents lived before I was born. It may or may not get torn down soon to build an apartment complex.
They did do a retro Shelby Cobra SS sometime after 2000. I know one of the engineers that worked on the last Dodge Viper. Daz stay away from the early Viper, they will turn and bite you quicker than an actual snake.
Blasphemy. They first Gen viper is an amazing car. It's more terrifying than my first wife, but also more satisfying. If you can get past the akck of abs, traction control, a roof, or any amenities and enjoy the car for the race car that it is, it's an absolute blast. The first car I ever drove was a 1999 SR-II. My dad was a good friend of the local Dodge dealer and he let him have the car for a few weeks while off on a cruise. Dad taught me how to drive stick in that car at 15 and I i sat in the passenger seat as he got it up to around 160mph. Before you ask, my dad was briefly a NASCAR driver in the 70s.
I wouldn't say European hatchbacks were ever big here except for the VW Rabbit (Golf) in the 80s. Now, small hatchbacks are death traps with giant SUVs and pickups everywhere.
I almost bought a 70 Chevelle 454SS numbers matching 3 years ago that needed restored for $20,000. It had some dents, a little rust and the upholstery was tore up but the guy wouldn't wait until the bank opened on Monday and he sold it on a Sunday. I'm still whining about it.
16:28.... the Cobra is one of the most used cars for those kit cars ---------------------------------------- Very sorry for my car nerd showing up for the rest of the comment..... British car company AC had originally made the Cobra. They used Ford engines. Former American racer Carroll Shelby worked with Ford, and AC to beat Ferrari, and Chevy (with Corvette racing at the time). They debuted the 289 (cubic inch engine). Evengually using the 428 & 429 engines in the Cobras. There was a very aerodynamic Cobra called the "Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupè". That's a weird case of only 6 ever made, and all 6 are still around today. -- 1 was about to sell at auction about 10 years ago, and it was at $11mil, and didn't meet its reserve.
I laugh all the time when Euros try to interject their car experiences. We invented the car culture. We invented the muscle car while you were driving toy cars. And to this day, your cops still drive Barbie cars.
I have a 2016 hellcat challenger and a 2001 viper gts. Vipers are the best cars ever made. The newest generation of viper ACR's are the best cars ever made in terms of reliability, performance and price.
Chevy isn't making the Camero any more. Rumor has it they are work on an EV Camero, set to come out in 2030. However, this is the fate of all muscle cars in America, the current government has set a mandate that by 2035 all new cars sold in America must be electric.
Ironic that you think you dont have anything like the Shelby Cobra considering it's an AC Ace with a big motor. Shelby loved briitsh roadsters. You see that again in the 90s with teh first gen Viper when he worked with Dodge.
The narrator completely skipped over the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, which dominated the category in the late 70s and early 80s. Not much horsepower, but no cars had much horsepower then.
Brits always talk about Yanks being over the top. I just wish these guys could see AMC's offerings. The Hurst S/C Rambler, the Hurst Rebel Machine their red, white and blue offerings. They never seem to read the comments so no luck pointing them to videos of them. Shame I thought they looked great. My best friend owned a Rambler Scrambler that had a little engine work done to it. We always talked about the glow factor. When you smacked a chevy it made you feel all warm inside because you know getting your butt kicked by a Rambler was so embarrassing. Look for Muscle car of the week Rambler Scrambler.
There aren't a lot of American muscle cars in the UK. People prefer sporty Euros. I bet Daz drives an Audi, most Audi drivers have a similar arrogant disposition.
Lived 35 years on this planet in America, owned 5 cars. Never owned an American car lol. They're shit. Other than having an S4 Audi, I've always owned Japanese cars.
The Camaro I’m the 80’s could hand with the mustang , easily. , and in the turns would destroy a stand ……..period. As well it’s cousin the firebird …..dodge didn’t join the 80’s at all. With v8 power ……

And they are handsome cars.
My step-dad worked for GM and had a GNX stage 1 when I was a senior in high school. One day he just hands me the keys and said don’t wreck it. OMG.. best day of my life to that point! It was wonderful!
Grand National is one of my dream cars. I'm an 80's baby, it screams to my nostalgia.

The kit car company you're referring to is called factory five
1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS tops my list with the 69 Dodge Charger and 1970 Barracude 69 Camaro tied for 2nd
16:23 Mike flipping the bird at us? 😂😂😂
lmao hes trying to be slick
Buick made some of the best muscle cars.
1965 Buick Skylark Gran Sport.
1969 Buick Gran Sport Stage 1.
1970 Buick GSX Stage 1.
1973 Buick Gran Sport Stage 1.
The GSX and Monte Carlo's of that era are an acquired taste. But once you acquire that taste you can see the muscle car look to it.
I dont know if its the same over there but the show with Mike Brewer you were thinking of is called Wheeler Dealers here
The Carroll Shelby museum and Shelby Mustang factory are in Vegas.
If you call ahead for times and days, they will give a tour of the factory and/or the museum.
Carroll Shelby passed a few years back but his legacy lives on.
My favorite car brand is Dodge 😊
Vauxhall Nova all day for me lol

I owned a Camaro for 2 years. I loved it, super powerful. Wish I still had to it be honest.
1970-72 Pontiac Trans-Am, w/ Ram Air IV

That GTD is beautiful all the other cars are beautiful to
My favorites are the 69/70 Boss 429 Mustangs.
Died a little inside when he said recycled F-22
1969 Pontiac GTO “Judge”
Favorite muscle car? My late fathe re- built a 61' hardtop convertible vette he found in a boneyard. That is the best looking car I've ever seen. Miss ya pops. But a close 2nd has got to be the 69' camero w/ Cragers and blue/ white stripes.
Those are some very very nice cars I would like to have seen a 2003 mustang cobra!!
The narrator was wrong when he said the Demon was banned. Just have a 10-point roll cage installed, and it should be NHRA legal. . .
That race track @ 8:30 is across the street from where my parents lived before I was born. It may or may not get torn down soon to build an apartment complex.

That’s awesome I had a GTI one of the funnest cars to drive. The suspension I had on that thing it would just stick to those corners.
I wouldn't say European hatchbacks were ever big here except for the VW Rabbit (Golf) in the 80s. Now, small hatchbacks are death traps with giant SUVs and pickups everywhere.
On the track nothing is faster than the Mustang Super Cobra Jet straight from the factory.

I kind of liked the buick more than most of those cars. the 69 70 year cars kind of bore me
I laugh all the time when Euros try to interject their car experiences. We invented the car culture. We invented the muscle car while you were driving toy cars. And to this day, your cops still drive Barbie cars.
And French sirens sound like a gay threesome.
There's a reason the '69 GTO (like mine in the avatar) is known as the GOAT.
I'd buy it just based off the year alone. I love 69.
Beautiful car though seriously!
@@Jimbow-sz9kh Thanks. The colour is Mayfair Maize, a softened yellow. Those were the daize lol.
Our "Boat" is a '66 Olds 442 Convertible, Vermillion & Cream.
I have a 2016 hellcat challenger and a 2001 viper gts. Vipers are the best cars ever made. The newest generation of viper ACR's are the best cars ever made in terms of reliability, performance and price.
You'll only have to like the rear end of the GNX, you wont ever see the rest of it on the road.... 😉

Modern cars are not muscle cars, that era ended in 1974.
Crossover SUVs pretty much killed sedans (saloons) and hot hatches here in the US
The cobra 427 stock could run 0 to 100 and back to 0 in 13 sec flat and the car weight was 2200 lbs the motor itself weighs 700 lmao crazy
You are out of luck if you want a new Dodge Viper sadly they are now out of production. Fiat killed production when they too over Dodge.
Shelby Cobra is actually a British car (AC Cars) with Ford engine & transmission.
The narrator completely skipped over the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, which dominated the category in the late 70s and early 80s. Not much horsepower, but no cars had much horsepower then.
I have a 93 5.0

There aren't a lot of American muscle cars in the UK. People prefer sporty Euros. I bet Daz drives an Audi, most Audi drivers have a similar arrogant disposition.
Ive never owned an Audi. How wrong you are 😂
A similar arrogant disposition? The fuck are you talking about?
LOL!
i would would bet it's a Mercedes.
I'm guessing gaynor rolls a range rover.
Nah, he makes fun of Audi drivers. I think he drives beamers
Lived 35 years on this planet in America, owned 5 cars. Never owned an American car lol. They're shit. Other than having an S4 Audi, I've always owned Japanese cars.
Couldn't afford the gas for a muscle car huh? I remember my first wind up toy too. 🤣
