"Your shading better improve or else" 👀
I have been threatened to better myself... I don't know if this is motivational, illegal or both
Or else w-what... *sweats*
The owl, so reminiscent of the DuoLingo mascot, makes this comment all the more ominous.
Marc comes to your home and starts shading your cracks

"Ooh very nice!"
*see another cool video in the suggestions *
"oh alright this is what i need"

"wel,, i need this too"

that's exactly me
Or you end up spending the whole day watching those videos and not painting at all! T-T
Exactly!!
And I forget to watch those watch later video and finds new videos and repeat (ب_ب)
same i made a playlist of all of these and I'm like a marathon time lol
When you took out the lineart I just went "holy SHIT"
when I take out mine it looks like a kindergarden paint but 10 times worst

me I went "Divine Shit!"
You're a really good guy Marc. I remember struggling with a Silent Hill fanart and you did a paintover to help. The fact that you took the time out for someone you didn't even know really stuck with me. Thanks for what you did, and for what you keep doing man.
I was working on a drawing like an hour ago and was struggling with the shading. Now your tutorial on it pops up. Sweet timing. Thank you for another useful tutorial. Really appreciate it!
Can you show us the painting?
@@bogdanandrei9803 Hi! You can check them on my Twitter: @veroz73
@veroz It's probably AI (in youtube algorithm), that's doing that... But hey, let's not freak out about privacy and all. At least you got yourself an apt video to learn from..

"hey its you again"
how did you know I was binge-watching your videos
I’ve gotta say, I’m loving the sudden influx of tutorials from you Marc. These are super helpful, thank you. Keep it up!
One of the very few benefits of the pandemic is all the art-tubers making tons of videos. DX
Ok after a couple of hours I've got the cube and the sphere. I guess am ready.
Why?
Victor Kappel so he could follow along with the tutorial lol
Bro the way you shade is awesomee
You just turned a sketch to 3d art
Holy moly!! Marc has Hair!!
Holy crap the angles that you chose to draw the character in would have taken me an ungodly amount of time to finish really nice.
What is that brush? Where I can find it? Thank you.
@@alessandrov3177 u can find the brush in one of his vids . He lehit gives u his brushes for free

@@alessandrov3177 no probs dude. Im just starting out as an artist now i hope all goes well.
@@ThirdDiv Thank you, bro! you're the real mvp
This was super helpful! I'm always kind of scared of "ruining" my lineart with shading. Learning about those 2 types of shading and balancing them made me way more confident that I can do a good job on my next drawing. Thank you so much!
Awesome :D
What is that brush? Where I can find it? Thank you.

@@ΦίλιπποςΖαχόπουλος ah yes Ty man
This was incredibly helpful and right on time! Because of the corona virus I’ve been wanting to put more effort in my digital drawings, and shading is one thing that I understood, but never really knew how to put it in practice.
Edit: I’d also love to see one of these for highlights!
I've been working as an artist for 10 years, and I NEVER understood how the AO worked, until I saw this video. You can't imagine how it changed my head! Thank you so much! I'm forever gratefully yours.
What is that brush? Where I can find it? Thank you.
Other Teachers teach shade: Where’s the Light Source?
Me: 🤔?
Marc on Shade: - You are the Light (Basic)
- Proximity to Other Objects (Ambient Occlusion)- (focus on butt crack 😂)
- Feel free to mix layers with different opacity) 👌
Me: Wha?! Mind Blown! 🤯🤯🤯!!!! 🤩🤙
yeah it's cool

your videos are the foundation of my art career😁
Oh dear, now I know how they make this render-like look of drawings! Thanks a lot! I thought I knew what ambient occlusion is but boy I was wrong... You explained it so clearly and in a simple way! Thanks!
I might be dumb, but I've never heard about using AO in 2D art in my life! I love your take on basic shading and AO, it's super clear, makes perfect sense and gives me a whole new perspective on how to shade the drawings.
Have always worked with AO in 3D but never thought about it in 2D, and it was very eye opening to learn it can be applied like this!
Thanks so much, Marc! There are not many professional artists who will give out high-quality images and even brush sets for free.
This was very helpful, you've got a new subscriber :)
When Marc says " Heeey~ " ♥️😎
dude... it totally looks like a 3d model in the end, incredible
I cannot thank you enough for this because I always have so much problem with shading
glad it helps :)
Is it possible to show the whole shading process without speed up while you are explaining your decision? Like where to put based on which technique and just like how you explain in detail in this video. This video is so helpful but I would love to see how you practiced these technique in detail. Thank you!!!!!!
This is the first time I've really felt like I fully understood ambient occlusion, despite having it described to me multiple times. Great teaching! Thanks.
9:35 That explanation of ambient occlusion made the term finally click for me!
Thanks! I have a lot of trouble with the shading, no one really takes the time to explain it like you do . THANKS! :D
What is that brush? Where I can find it? Thank you.
your videos change my life
Damn dude never saw anyone who explained this so incredibly good, i think my art would highly improve with this, thnx for the lesson Marc
Off topic, but Marc always knocks me out with his expressions, especially in the beginning where he's just like, "Why do I have to be right next to this?"
This helped so much, even at beginner level there's much to take here
2 min into it “alright I’m almost done with my drawing now” 😳 and the characters are complex and angled beautifully already. Omg! Teach me
I love these, one because they are very helpful, but two, because they are Photoshop oriented and help teach about all the parts of PS CC that are super useful that I just didn't know about.
The AO meathod really turned your drawing into a sculpted piece
I mean, seeing how I'm starting from zero watching this, any knowledge about shading will help me improve. Great vid!
I love your tutorial bruv. I'm new to digital arts and i found your tutorials very helpful. Thanks a lot. I did download you brushes!! Love it!
This is the first video I've seen of yours, and I don't particularly need help with shading, but I was amazed at your skill! I'll definitely check out more of your videos 👍
What is that brush? Where I can find it? Thank you.
wow... I can't believe you made something so hard so simple! Thanks for another GREAT tutorial!!!!
Thank you!! I know that a few people commented about this on your other coloring video and I’m extremely happy that you were quick to deliver! I saw your other one yesterday and I’m glad I got this in my recommendation! I’m definitely gonna subscribe for your future videos!
So good, there’s zero fluff in these tutorials which makes them so easy to follow and absorb. Thank you!
Thank u for posting these videos!! They are really helping me to understand and organize the steps of what to do in digital painting. I'm a beginner and I was so lost, using an excessive amount of layers for no real reason, just trying to figure out what to do. Again, thank u very much, for this and the brushes 💗💗!
I followed this video and it has TRANSFORMED my figure art. Thank you so much!
marc thank you so so much... i m in uni and i ve been struggling so so much your tutorials have been really helping me out.
This is the first explanation of AO shading that I actually understood. Thank you dude
I found this channel from the previous video and I just wanna say
how grateful I am for that tutorial 🥺
it inspired me alot and I was so happy to see you uploaded a new video
thank you so much for what you do!!!
I am so happy this video exists! I have been wondering how to understand AO and how to shade with it. Thank you!!!
Aaah, thank you for breaking the ambient occlusion :D
I think your previous video is about the same two techniques but this one is clearer on how to apply them, thank you for making these education videos!
Thanks for the lineart.
this is actually really smart approach to shading. Its like 3d modeling. I use its principle to render my characters. ever since i learned this, i didnt worry too much about calculating which is the direction of the light. i can just create a new layer on top to create a strong light (or not,)
You made this incredibly easy to understand. Thank you!
Ayo what this is actually working really well 😭😭
I never had an opportunity to study arts... Long story, but I studied graphic design. I have not learned anything about drawing.... I love drawing, but there was either no time or I was too lazy to learn. I decided to look up some professional tips on drawing. Shading is one of the things I had always been struggling with... The tutorial made me learn more about shading than any teacher from my university... Thank you! I really hope to learn finally to draw and to use my tablet, which I bought as a motivation to learn digital drawing. Keep up the good work!
Aaaaa- I really need this in my life-
ive seen so many tutorial on AO and you really have helped me understand it better now thank you for simplifying the concept! :D
Your tutorials are really good. Being a 3D expert I enjoy the info about things like ambient occlusion, subsurface scattering etc. relating to shading in 2D.
The way to make every single concept clear is amazing, thank you very much man!
Omg I just figured out that the only thing I've ever done is AO shading... I really want to incorporate basic shading into my drawings to make them look less flat! Thank you so much for this tutorial!!
your every video is Gem. I wish I could afford your school. Respect! this is some really good stuff.
Man, you are just amazing. Your content is DA BOMB
Wow, such an good way to think about shading! I've been taking courses that goes through all these different types of lights and shadows and it's a bit overwhelming to keep track of all those technical aspects as a beginner. Of course, it's probably needed when you start playing more with light sources, but this way of thinking about shading seems to be a great way to get started.
You are very helpful, I really like how you make your viewers understand and learn the ways to improve! Keep it up!
Oh wow. You have helped me fix so many mistakes with your to the point tutorials. Thank you so much for your videos! So much more valuable than a decade of traditional art drills that don't transfer seamlessly to digital media.
Marc you are a GEM.
One thing I'm struggling with using your method is that my grayscale is looking a little splotchy in couple places and I'm not too sure how to fix it. But I really do like how it is turning out!
Thank you for putting out these tutorials Marc, they're great. Also got your "Animal & Creature Drawing" course from the sale ^_^ it's been very insightful!
Awesome! Thanks so much :D
@@YTartschool What is that brush? Where I can find it? Thank you.
This helped me sooo freaking mush you don’t understand how much I was struggling to learn how to do this on my own. Thank you so much for these, if you would can you do a tint and reflection tutorial? This my first time drawing again after watching this tutorial and I see such a big difference
Oh you actually listened to my suggestion, thank you a lot!
Thank you for this tutorial. I've already working on 3D arts and this tutorial helps me understand what Ambient Occlusion is. I'm going to apply it and mix it with my own style.
Do you think you could make a tutorial on how to use the color picker? I feel like beginner artists need to understand how to use that tool first before we can color like, where is the saturation, how do I select value what is hue shifting? those kinds of questions could be explained in a color picker tut! =)
"The lineart quality is not that great"
Bruh I can't even draw a straight line lmao
I'm so EXCITED!!
Thank you so much for such an informative and clear tutorials. They are extremely helpful and so inspirational! Entirely treasure preasure
Thanks for this 😊
Man, you are so good. Truly an inspiration. Thanks for sharing this.
Nice! Thankyou :D
Wow he actually had hair 😮
Great video as always! Perhaps you could share your extensive knowledge of anatomy with us next time? I’m always blown away every time I see your art, even when it’s just a sketch!!
ok Marc that is good advice , hats off to you , can't wait to apply this.
Thank you so much for helping us new artist❤
So many wasted hours looking for the light source. Turns out it was me all along. I will comeback regularly to make sure I don't forget
Ohhhh that's what it is
I can already see how I can mix these techniques and improve my shading!
i'm binge-watching all of your videos 😭😭😭
very informative! i did not expect to learn about ambient occlusion! it looks very nice in drawings!
Thank you so much for that informative lesson, Marc!
Although I understand basic shading on objects,
but I have a lot to learn about shading on human anatomy.... this explanation really helps!
very happy about this, been asking for bare time lol, now let me go watch it
TY
thanks marc, hope you are holding up well, thanks for the humor as well, cheers!
So far so good, thanks Jay!

I used to hate the lasso select tool, until I got a nice drawing tablet.
Thank you my friend! I love this tutorial!
