Screenshot this comment (not mine, but the one with time for each tip) and make it your phone's wallpaper(picture) for the lock screen, since you will see the lock screen more than the "in" screen. Good luck.

I would add another point that really works for me
    11) FINISH YOUR ART PIECES: don't abandon your projects or work forever on a single one, give them some form of closure, and be consistent, finish your current project before starting another one. If you feel you have a lot of ideas, tackle them one by one, if you are working on a project and you think you have the best idea ever, just make a quick sketch and notes, then return and finish your current project. This forces you to go through all stages of the process.
Think about music, if you learn only the intros of songs or the solos you're missing everything else, and play a complete song is as satisfying as finishing an art piece.

I can confirm that having a project rather than a single piece is the best way to produce art. I spent a year trying to find inspiration for personal work and I came up with nothing but then I decided to take on an entire project with about 12 different pieces and once I committed to that the inspiration just flooded in. Artists need direction. Ideas don't just appear out of thin air. We need structure and a idea to work off of.

    • @cordeliathedm

@@mayak5908 I had the exact same problem. I couldn't settle on a subject that I enjoyed enough to create art for. And then I realised I absolutely loved the stories told in The Witcher 3, so I decided to start making Witcher art. I wanted to create cards but just drawing scenes from the game didn't motivate me. So then I was like, what if I use the archetypes from tarot cards and try to draw the characters as those archetypes? And then I got super into it.
Maybe start with a subject that inspires you and then come up with a format that gives you the structure you need to stay motivated.

Draw what makes you happy, what you crave the most, because that will fuel your passion for drawing and in consecuence make you a better artist. Even the best artists, who do regular commisions and have drawing as their job, they all have some separate time to draw what they like, to draw something that they love.

My art before and now are incredibly different, and then last year I completely lost passion for art and just drawing illustrations. I stopped drawing altogether, so I started wondering what happened? how did I go from always drawing even though it wasn't that good to drawing better art without any passion? or just feeling like I'm forcing myself to draw for the sake of it. I feel like my art now, even though it's better than before is very stagnant, and I definitely have been ignoring a lot of things that make me a better artist. This video was a refreshing reminder of what I should have been doing :))

I think the self-awareness is an interesting point.
I started drawing more often 1-2 years ago and i know i lack confidence. So before every artistic project i have to get my "If it goes wrong, then i'll learn from it"-mindset. Sometimes it takes weeks of thinking before i even start a drawing, but when i finish it i am actually surprised. My skills aren't as bad as i thought.
So I keep trying to improve and the thought that i always might just underestimate myself helps me.

This was such an inspiring video. I've been trying to pick up 3D modelling for a while now. I've done a few beginner's courses, as well as made a few simple objects based on references, but, like you said, I find myself getting discouraged by learning new things that open the floodgates to even more things I still need to learn. I haven't opened blender in a few months now because I was getting so discouraged by the massive gap between where I wanted to be, and where I am. Your comments about having the right mindset, self-awareness, and keeping expectations in check are exactly what I needed to hear. I'm going to open blender again tomorrow with a fresh mindset. Thank you, really.

Thank you, Mr. Brunet. I'm quite thankful that I came across this video as I was trying to find that spark to help reignite my creative drive. It was your comment about burnout and art not being fun was the driving moment that made me realize where I was in my art. As it is with the quarantines and social distancing, I made the decision to reinvest back into my art again and this video brought a refreshing breath of life again to my longest love, art. Best wishes and I look forward to gleaning more insight from your videos.

I watched this video a while ago but wanted to say the advice about having a project to focus on has been very helpful. i started learning how to draw last summer and have been doing comparison pieces using one of my dnd characters every 2-3 months and while there are some pieces that look fairly close or like i haven't improved since the last one, the difference between the first one at 3 months and the one i did at the start of this is measurable and im pretty happy with my progress after 1 year

Ah good timing for UA-cam recommendations since lately I'm on my "re-emergence phase" was on a "drawing break" or hiatus for a while just been a sporadic drawer drawing like once every 3 months or so but now ever since last month and even February I've been starting to draw again more a and more and I can see myself improving even from that time and even redrawing my old artworks. Watching this video made me realize that I already knew how to grow and have always followed all these points but it was always subconsciously and watching this video made me fully aware that I've always been teaching myself all throughout the years.

indeed it is a golden tip, especially the one about " if your last year art sucks compared to what you can do now, you are doing fantastic" that really gave me a confidence boost, my skills over time in 1 year basically skyrocketed a bit as i did a leap towards the better by using just 2 arts for referance that learnt me about the importance of curves and stuff, referance really helps, thank you marc, you are awsome

Thanks for the tips, and for mentioning confidence! I think that's something a lot of beginner artists lack and they don't improve because they lack the motivation to try to be better when they see other great artists' work. Healthy competition always gives room for growth, so we should never put our own ego before our work.
