Man other than 94, Young did not come up big in the playoffs.
This was one of those "not as close as the score" games - the Packers were dominant. Only some good redzone D by the 49ers kept this from being 31-3 instead of 23-10. There was no point where it felt like San Francisco was actually in it.
Hard to believe Favre never got back to the Super Bowl after this. Everyone thought this was the real Super Bowl but my Broncos showed up 2 weeks later.
RIP Mr. Madden :(
The Pack's last NFC Title game appearance until 2007. This would be San Fran's last Title game appearance until 2011. This game also marked the beginning of the Niners' decline.
This is definitely the best packer team that never one a super bowl and it is not even close . They got real cocky vs Denver who I think were 14 point dogs and Denver deserves all the credit in the world. But for Younger packer fans who think 2014 04 2021 or 2022 were bad this 1997 team makes them all look bad believe me they were as dominant in all three phases as a team could be.
You could tell the Packers game plan was to throw early and attack the 49ers CBs and it worked, it never felt like the 49ers were in this game
Niners couldn't beat the Packers. This game definitely hurt watching a young kid. As good at the 49ers where for nearly two decades they sure lost a lot of games in the playoffs at home.
As a 49ers fan we lost so many NFC championship games just imagine if we would’ve won most of them all the superbowls we could’ve won.
Not having Garrison Hearst at full strength made Young have to throw too much in this game. Not having Jerry Rice was also problematic from an offensive standpoint. No one could cover or tackle Antonio Freeman (who not so elegantly labeled the 49ers “The Sunshine Boys”), making a dig at them as being a soft team. The ‘97 Niners team overachieved on defense, but just like the two years prior, faltered down the stretch.
NFC was so dominant in the 90’s outside of those 2 Denver runs…
I Miss these Packer teams of the 90s, we seemed unstoppable back then and going into a game as a fan we had confidence knowing the Pack would handle business. This was the last year that we would dominate the 9ers in the playoffs (3yrs in a row). The year after we would face this same team in SF and a last min TO catch for the win, would end our reign in this decade and we were never the same after that. Fast forward to present day and it looks like the 9ers have gotten their Vengeance on us and then some.......how the tables have turned!
When sf lost its 3rd straight playoff game to gb here they were so weak I never would’ve thought the franchise eventually have the lead in the playoff rivalry 5-4 (after winning @gb in the ‘21 season)
Green Bay was to San Francisco at this point what San Francisco had been to Dallas in 1995 and what Dallas was to Green Bay in 1996...dominant. That was the triad of power in pro football in the mid 90's.
What I find interesting is that stylistically, the Packers were a much better matchup for Denver than San Francisco. I honestly think San Francisco whoops Denver in the Super Bowl if they had played. But much like 1995 with Dallas, Green Bay took 'em out before they had their chance.
As a Niner fan this was another heartbreaker. I thought that ‘97 team was a team of destiny but the Packers were still better as they proved this game.
Antonio Freeman came up big in these playoff games
I remember watching this as a die hard Niners fan back in the day. I was so depressed that the Niners just could not beat the Packers (even in the regular season too).
I’m looking forward to seeing what are the next videos to come, so keep it coming.
Crazy how Brett Favre never made it back to another SB after 97
