Advisable to always turn the ign off before pulling out the diagnostic plug, as you may do something nasty to the ECU. Thankyou for the tip about the Amazon cables , great videos as always 😊
Very timely and somewhat reassuring ... I have a malfunction orange light on my KTM 790R ... probably unplugged a sensor during air box removal and clean. Going to KTM to scan it tommorrow morning... 100km away ... I need to buy one of these with Bluetooth dingle. Thanks for sharing
Thank you! This is a HUGE LIFESAVER! I didn't even know this cable existed! Update: I have a 202w Yamaha MT 03 NB. The adapter I purchased is a 4-pin connector to 16-pin connector. But. There is always a but. The adapter isn't working. I have tried lots of things. I am about to go to Autozone to see what the issue is. It hasn't damaged anything, but it just won't connect. I had a brilliant idea. Always do. Probably less brilliant than stupid. But, this is what I do. I tinker to try and do things. Always have. So, my idea was to combine things. I purchased an adapter and a Sync-Up drive. The idea is to have a tracker, scanner tool, and wifi Hotspot all in one. It won't connect either. If anyone has any info on what may be the issue or have the correct wiring diagram for the 4-pin to 16-pin adapter. Please let me know. I am going to call Yamaha Monday as well to try and get info from them. But, with proprietary systems. I highly doubt I will get any info. There are no motorcycle shops near me either. So, I won't have luck there.
Who would have known that a regular scanner would read a bikes ecu. I suppose itll say on the scanners manual which manufacturers it covers. Thanks for this ,gonna get that adapter asap.
xxxxin' thanks man i have 2 ducatis and soon one more, and I am sick of the Ducati service centers ripping me ff, and and doing it myself, because the maintenance costs of official Ducati service centers is like buying a yacht for 1 million then spend 5 million on fuel marina and maintenance costs.. Ducatis are like Yachts, the money to buy the bike is just the beginning.. the maintenance costs, are the ongoing hole in the pocket! You did us a service showng us this circumvention method and devicce. I am getting one, you sold me on it, as in Thailand no garage has a Ducati compatible scanner
funny you should pop this video up right now ,my new 2020 street bob did the same today after exhaust install , i fired it up with the o2 sensors not connected ,i cleared 2 codes relating to o2 sensors vr control switches entering diagnostics mode through a process holding in buttons lol damn pain in the ass ,
THANKS ! Good video. Is it dangerous to use it with the engine running, if it does not work with my key ON, on my snowmobile. Me my lights and my dial does not light up with the key ON. Polaris Switchback Adventure 2012 600.
So a car scanner s it doesn't have to be a motorcycle specific OBD2 scanner or bi-directional scanner. That's huge. If that's the case, you don't really explain that, but hopefully you mean any car OBD2 scanner will work with a motorcycle, although I don't see how
Unfortunately, my Triumph Rocket 3 Touring doesn't have the same ODB-2 connector as your bike. Mine is the same as you see in cars but my ODB-2 coded reader can't read the codes. However, I have two apps - one that I haven't used in years and one I've never used and I think they can read codes if I can figure out how to use them. One is Factory Tool that I've used to bleed the ABS and to adjust the throttle bodies but it took a long time to get it to work. The other is TuneECU which I have never used.
FYI....I have a 2009 Triumhp America 900 (865cc) with the OBD2 connector. I have an Actron 9145 scanner and it connects and works really well on the bike. Now I'm trying to find the connector port on my 2014 Honda CTX (D). I'd love to see if my Autel-maxi check MX808 will connect. I want to see if there's any faults in the Double Clutch transmission.
Hello, I have an Aprilia Caponord 1200, and can't find any cables in the market. Do you know if the cable from Ducati as mentioned on the description below may work? Thanks
Hi I just fitted I piggyback to my Ktm duke 125 year 2019 the it come up ecu failure with the temperature gauge flashing on the dashboard bike will not start I took the piggyback off put the bike back to stock and still the same and same error can you help please
Was under the impression that each motorcycle manufacturer had its own version. But now realize that that model makes no financial sense. Why would each take on the development expenses? If you fix the problem, the code will clear itself after several cycles.
Did you by chance try this out in your Honda? I picked a cord off of Amazon a while back and though it said it works with my Honda, it actually didn’t. Could have been my reader I suppose.
I had no idea they existed until a couple weeks ago so I never had one when I had my AT. The first time I used this one, it took several minutes to load properly. Seems quicker now.
I know he's so vague. Is it just any car scanner? My cable just arrived tonight but I don't have time to check it. I have several professional grade automotive scanners but I don't have a motorcycle specific one. I'm still trying and vacillating between which one to buy. I have a BMW
Have a 2008 honda cbr 125 rides for about 30+mins fine then starts to judder down road till I pull over turn it off then will be fine again has the fi light flash anyone know what it could be please
Hi man, very interesting video! One question: is your OBD able to read other motorcycle brands? If yes, do you know which of them? Thank you so much in advance for your support.
I think you need to know the pinout of the OBD2 plug of yr model and brand. It is supposed to be standard from Euro 5 on, but I have researched that on the net and the pinout differ even between different models of the same brand.
You'll be able to read the basics at best. The dealerships pay for a license and for the diag tool that's license locked. Powersports do not work strictly on OBD2 platform like automotive software
So I've got a 2012 Shadow RS. 4 plug k-line. I have the appropriate adapter. And have tried 3 different OBD2 tools. None can establish a connection protocol. Do you or maybe anyone else here in the comments have any ideas? EDIT: now all I've managed to do is turn the check engine light on.

I’ve never had an issue with it but it definitely falls into “best practices”. :)
that is not how ecu’s work at all lol

Awesome video it helped me a lot. I bougth the adaptor fot my Tracer 900 to erase a code worked like a charm.
FYI to 22 Teneres and later. Mine is a 6 pin OBD. I assume depending on build year this is the case.
Thanks for the tip

Did you have to update it for your specific bike?
Can I use any automotive obd2
Exactly he doesn't explain
Have you by chance used that scanner on the R1200GS in the back ground? Amazon sells a BMW plug also. I have a R1200RT with a anti lock light.
We have not scanned the BWM. I believe it needs a special scanner.

In your video you mention that shops will scan your bike for free... in my country they ask 70 euro just for scanning the faults
Is there a patch cable that will work on the canam spyder????
What kind scanner you used??
Post the adapter cable id #’s ?

Have you found one for the newer KTMs? I know the 990 you could do it but I think the 790/1290 are trickier.
There are KTM cables listed but you'd have to figure out which models it works with.
hi mate, do you know where i would find my diagnostic port on my sinnis hero 125 (2018)
Does it read ABS codes as well with the adapter?
could you also edit values? change co settings?
no
What was the OBD2 scanner called?

Ya you need the correct pin adapter for each one thats different. Like for Kawasaki I know it takes 6 pin.

@@TheZakkmylde dont have the bike anymore. gave up.
thank you
Don’t you need an OBD specifically for motorcycle 🏍 (software)?
You can get the basic codes with a generic scanner. The dealer units definitely will get more info but this set-up works well for standard stuff.

If your scooter is fuel injected and someone makes a cable for it then, perhaps you can. Scooters are not our market and I know little about them.
or is it a Bluetooth thing?
