  • Bit of a longer video as I tried to show a bit more detail in this one. Had a bit of an issue which I cover at the end summary of the video, but was a bit over zealous when pulling up the malt pipe!
    Cheers brewers.

Prospective B80 customer here out of Chicago, just wanted to say how much I’ve enjoyed your videos. I’m always so careful with measurement and I love how you just wing it here and there, and I realized that you’re right, it’s splitting hairs and not worth stressing over. Relax and have a home brew and all that. Thanks so much for doing these and being brave enough to show the goof ups, those really help in the learning process. Gonna keep using my Picobrew Z in manual mode until it dies then will graduate up to a B80. Can’t wait for double batching and malt pipe powerlifting.

Hey man, thanks for the super nice and positive message. It’s great to hear these videos - as often impromptu and haphazard as they are - do help other brewers! The BrewTools is certainly an investment, but it’s well worth it as it will literally last forever. Well, with replaceable parts, as good as, ha. I definitely wing it a lot, probably more than I should, but you’re right, try to chill and have fun. I think most hobbyists (rather than purests) would agree. I was the same though when I started though and mellowed a bit over time 😁 Anyways, not wishing the old system any ill will, but hope you get your new system soon! All the best mate 👍🍻

Nice video, thanks a lot !
Instead drinking coffee while brewing, I really recommend drinking beer, though...;-)

Hey, thanks for the comment man. Really nice to know the videos help people out! 😊 I follow both of those channels too, always good to watch others and pick up good tips. I’m about 10 brews in and still learning/tweaking my methods. Have a little more time now the kids are in school so more frequent brew days to come!! Take it easy pal and cheers to your new machine! 👍🍻

You will improve your efficiency if you mash in a little slower. Add less grain each time and stir well.
    Good video though.

Thanks man. Yes, this is a good tip as I know I usually rush this. More speed, less haste as they say... 👍🍻

I adjusted my crush to 1.25mm, Brewtools’s says 1.20-1.30, but my efficiency is down, I thought you couldn’t have a fine crush? I’ve brewed twice, and screwed up the lifting of the malt pipe!!!! And mine is only a B40, so you must have arms like popeye wrestling with your malt pipe!!

    • @8pibrewing867

It’s all about the spinach mate, haha! Yes, it wasn’t easy. I never include the lift in my video as I need to get on the counter and don’t want to encourage such wanton danger! I just did a brew day today, lifted it straight up no problem, but had a bit of a stuck mash this time... oh to be a home brewer 🙄 And yeah, grain crush should be around 1.2 to 1.3 but I tend to use a fine(r) crush with rice hulls and (until today) it’s gone well. I will get a mill of my own at some point, but just need to manage until then. I find different suppliers (and even the same suppliers) vary wildly on grain crush. Did you mash out as that will help? Or try sparging a bit slower - I feel like I almost batch sparge with the B80pro sometimes, so will make a concerted effort with that from now. Take care and thanks for the comments 👍🍻

@@8pibrewing867 hello sir, just thought I would tell you, I bought a winch from amazon for 19 quid, set it up in my garage, (where I have my brew kit set up), and when it came to lifting the malt pipe for sparge, I used the winch, it was great, very little effort it was done. I realise you may not have a dedicated area for brewing, but maybe in the future, because as I said before, “I do not know, how you wrestle that malt pipe with that weight!! Looking forward to your next video. Cheers Alfie

@@alfiefranklin7831 hey man. Yeah, for sure a winch is in order. I did buy a manual pully a while back, but like you say, I don’t currently have a dedicated brewing area. And even when I move, probably into the utility room, I don’t think I’m comfortable setting up as I don’t have a joist above where the B80pro would go... I’ll think of something. In the meantime, I just got to flex 💪 😂👍🍻 I’m off work for 2 weeks soon, so hopefully get some more brew day footage uploaded!!
