    Top notch video Bradley, and nicely explaining the setting up of the unit and the valve setup as well, i'd like to see Brewtools do some tutorials showcasing a 1,2,3 and 4 three way valve setups with a step by step walkthrough on brewday of each configuration, i feel it would be a great help to the ever expanding Brewtools user base get to know the system better because as know its real easy to have a valve in the wrong position during a particular phase of the brewday...again great video my friend...

    Looking into this system and trying to understand it. This video helps a lot, thank you!
    Just one little detail that confuses me: pause the video at 18:46. The position of the 3 valves would stop the flow altogether, wouldn't it? First valve is set to block the flow in the direction of the chiller but let it flow in the direction of the attached second valve. But this second valve is set to block what's coming from this direction, isn't it? Bit confused, sorry ...
    Anyway, wondering what would happen if you set the valves to completely wrong positions while brewing. Would it be dangerous, bursting tubes, pipes, seals? Is there some sort of emergency stop? Or is the pump not strong enough to cause any damage?

      @@PortlyGentleman Did not so well first time, kind of like a baptism of fire. Small leak bottom, temp sensor (blue/black cord), will have to replace. One of the three feet that locks the malt pipe to the top after lift-off don't work, requires manual intervention during lifting of malt pipe. Another reason for replacement. But the biggest disappointment, during lift off (no winch) the bottom of malt pipe has only 1-2 cm clearance from lock mechanism hits till the bottom malt pipe falls out of position for the center pipe. Which resulted in tipping over of hot wort and malt. When trying to place the malt pipe and top hat back, it became stuck with malt. Pump finally managed to push it out, resulting in a 7 foot jet of 170 °F hot wort hitting the wall. Thank god it didn't hit me. So that's how it went. ;-) And btw, a 3 valve setup should be a minimum setup if you want to both automatically sparge and clean up without spoiling wort all over the place.

    Shrinkbrew here. Thanks, great explanation. so to pump the wort from bt to fermentation you switch the main built in triclamp to right exit - pump- bypass lower exit - and from the lower left try clamp through oxygenation directly to tank, without passing the chiller again?

    • @PortlyGentleman
      @PortlyGentleman  5 років тому +1

      On the 4 valve setup I use an open port on the fourth valve hook a hose to that. And use my bypass pipe work while still running out of the chiller. I hope that makes sense It is a little convoluted.

    • @kasparscheidegger2172
      @kasparscheidegger2172 5 років тому

      @@PortlyGentleman yeah. I think I kinda made it right yesterday when I passivated. transferred the acid from the bt to the tank to get used to the process. another q: when you sparge with water from the hlt, that comes in from the front right entry, so I guess you activate the pump and set the valve so you only have the straight flow from hlt to pump, closing the outlet from the bt? how do you measure the amount of water? and another one: how much flow or pressure of O2 do you use on the oxygenation kit? 1-2 bar? or just with the gut feeling? first brewday coming this Saturday and got myself oxygen today...

    • @PortlyGentleman
      @PortlyGentleman  5 років тому +1

      @@kasparscheidegger2172 Yes I run straight from the HLT through the pump. As far as the pumps power level that may depend a lot on the elevation of you HLT I usually monitor the green bed making sure there isn't a ton of standing sparge water on top of it. As far as the oxygenation I just go off of whatever seems right I should probably be a little more refined though.

    Hi Bradley. Great video. I live in Australia and I’ve just purchased the B40 with a 4 valve setup. I am in the process of setting it up and I noticed that the power cable came with a 15A plug. After reading through the manual it appears the system can be configured to different maximum power settings (10A, 13A, 15A & 16A). Just wondering what power setting do you run yours at? I am assuming 10A would be suitable but may take longer to heat? My electrical circuits at home are 10A and I was debating whether I just change the plug to a 10A and set the system to 10A or get an electrician to add a 15A circuit and run at that setting.
    I guess if I change to a 10A setup, I should dedicate a seperate circuit to run this to avoid overloading/tripping the breaker..
    Any ideas/thoughts?
