  • www.jonpeters.com/ Artist will often paint on canvas board ¼ plywood or even matt board. And that is fine, but if you want to display the painting in a float frame the painting will need to be mounted to something a little heaver like ½ plywood.
    In this video I show how to mount a painting so that the painting can be displayed in a walnut float frame. Some the tools that you will need are wood glue, a chop saw, or circular saw, a hot glue gun, a screw gun, and a few 1" screws

    Thank you Jon for sharing your knowledge. Have been asking around and no-one's willing to share what they know. You're a lifesaver!

    Jon thank you. I have ability but was drawing blanks esp on framing & or mounting canvas board. I esp like the gap/relief between the frame & work it adds depth, dimension, character, and definition. brilliant

    Thank you. I was trying to figure out how to frame these paintings I bought that are on canvas board. I like the float frame but couldn't figure out how to make up the depth. I don't have any kind of saw but I'll figure something out.

    I've got two newbie questions for you if you don't mind. :)
    1. Does glueing such a piece of wood cause the canvas board / masonite to bend or rather would it be a good thing for for example canvas board preventing it from bending?
    2. Do you know of any floating frames that are designed around these thinner canvas boards?
    It almost strikes me as odd there aren't simple frames you can slide certain common size canvas boards into, as they're usually all about the same thickness.
    Of course, the solution you've provided here works great as well. Thanks for the video!

    Perfect. Easy and concise. I would add that you might make sure you plan the size of your work so it will fit in a premade frame if you don't want to wait (or pay) to have it custom framed. There are some very nice pre-made frames available.

    John this was great! Thank you. I am not sure if you are still getting the comments/questions but I have one. I am not an artist but I have 4 canvas board paintings that my mom did in the early “80’s. They still look awesome but have never been framed and are bowed some. They are all much larger than whT you did here but I am wondering how on earth I can frame these to display them. Mom is gone now but this helps to show her talent all the time!!

      Thanks James... you could make a braced panel and glue the canvas panels to that. Try searching how to make a braced panel on my channel.

    great video! if the painting on board was a lot bigger would it still be practical to glue a whole piece of plywood to the back?? what you be the best way of attaching a larger board painting to a floater frame?

    Has anyone tried using Elmer's wood glue on canvas board? This video applies wood glue to masonite board which is wood. I don't know enough about canvas board to know if wood glue is a good adhesive.

    How long does one have to wait until it is OK to glue and put a weight on an oil painting? Drying time can take months.

      @JonPetersArtHome  5 років тому +1

      As long as it takes for paint to dry... you can lay down a thin sheet of foam with plastic on top of it and try that out

      @@JonPetersArtHome Thanks. I guess I'll have to wait a while then, my titanium white takes weeks atleast to get somewhat firm with enough impasto!
