    Hi, would this stop the paintings from warping over time? I'm currently painting a canvas panel and it is warping and I haven't completed it yet.

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  5 місяців тому +1

      How a panel is stored can cause it to warp. For example, leaning it against a wall can cause it to warp because of gravity. So placing it a frame where it will be held flat against the frame and hung vertically on a wall would be better. There are other reasons why a canvas panel might warp though. The board might absorb moisture from the paint which causes a situation where one side of the panel expands more than the other. Also, acrylics tend to shrink as they dry (I'm not sure which medium you're using) so it might cause paper or canvas boards to cup a little bit. The canvas panels that have cardboard cores are more prone to warping. Look for canvas panels that are made from wood, or you can make them- here's my demo: ua-cam.com/video/JQ6qkGVsB44/v-deo.html A cradled panel is the least likely to warp because it has wood bracing on the back as shown in this video ua-cam.com/video/H7IQa9fLzd8/v-deo.html

      Generally speaking, works on paper such as drawings and watercolors are framed behind glass to protect them. Oils and acrylics on canvas are usually displayed without glass, although I have seen a few behind glass.

Unfortunately, the site hasn't been accepting payments for years.When I contacted them in 2022 they said they were updating their site and they asked me what I would like to order. So maybe you can try contacting them to see if they still make these frames. It was such a simple way to frame a panel!

    How to fram this into a frame ?!

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  11 місяців тому

      From what you said, it sounds the artist shipped the painting rolled. Oil paintings on canvas are usually stretched over a wood frame made from "stretcher bars." It's possible to stretch it yourself but that can be risky if you have never stretched a canvas before. I recommend taking it to a reputable framer and see if they can stretch it for you. Also, you might want to contact the artist who sold it to you and ask them for some advice.

    • @ChrisBreier

    Thank you so much. How do you chose the right floater frame with the risers?

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  2 місяці тому

      If you're asking about the risers then I assume that you're framing a flat panel so look for the floaterframe that says it fits flat and cradled panels up to 7/8" deep (which is what I used in this video). The deeper floater frames are for thicker canvases and panels. There's the thin edge and thick edge, I like the thin but that's just my preference! 🙂 The Ampersand website lists all of the different styles and colors.

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  3 роки тому

      The floater frame is the 3rd option (with the salt shaker/tomato painting).The second option with the boat painting is just a regular wood frame which I believe is the link in the description that just says “wood frame”. You just glue the corners together and pound in the plastic pieces. There are wood frames like that which are already assembled but they’re usually only available in standard sizes like 8x10, 11x14 etc. The plain square frame profile is usually considered to be a “modern” or “contemporary” frame.

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  3 роки тому +1

      The painting in the video was on gessobord which is a type of wood. Some canvas panels have a cardboard interior which may not as durable. Either way I don't think you need to attach the panel to an extra piece of wood or anything like that. The floater frames from Ampersand comes with instructions which is what I followed in the video. I hope this helps!

    in the second tutorial with the point gun, is it just as effective to use a regular photo frame with the points already in place?

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  3 роки тому +2

      I think the only issue is if the points are rigid you won't be able to bend them back to slip your artwork in the frame. In that case you would have to remove the points, put your painting in the frame, and then use a point driver to put in new points. Most inexpensive frames don't use the flexible points that I used in the demo.

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! I just sent them an email asking if they're still taking orders. I will let you know what I find out. I haven't been able to find another source which is disappointing because these make it so easy to frame panels. It's possible to make your own, but it's a little complicated and the extra work kind of makes it not worth it. Anyway, it's basically a regular frame with a piece of wood attached to the back. The only issue is that the opening of a standard 8x10 frame is smaller than 8x10. Plus you want a little extra space around the painting too. So you would have to paint on custom sized panels that take all of that into account. Or you could order a custom frame that has an opening that is larger.

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  2 роки тому +2

      I found these which have an open back but they're designed so you can glue the panel to the frame. (I never tried them, and I have no affiliation with them). www.webpictureframes.com/product4/3349/black_panel_floater_frame.htm
