I don't know what was more ingenious, the masking tape to glue it together, the brackets to make sure it was exactly 45 degrees or the scraper wrapped in sandpaper to sand in small places. The frame was beautiful. Your workmanship is unbelievable. Such a great job.
Thanks very much mate, feedback like yours makes it all worthwhile.
This was the best (by far) tutorial I've ever seen for making a floating frame. I will be referring to it a lot as I create my frames. Thank you very much for this!
Thank you very much Michelle. Glad it was helpful.
I just built almost exactly this frame with some leftover scraps of wood. It turned out absolutely amazing, and I'll be making more of these for sure. Thank you for sharing!
My pleasure Eilon, so good to hear that your frames turned out great
Amazingly simple and effective way to create a floating frame. I especially liked the heat-shrink wrap tip. Thank you so much!!
Thank you very much Tatyana
My partner was so impressed by this that she asked me to make one for a Chris Valle painting she bought. Great instructions, was really easy to follow.
Awesome mate, great it worked out. thanks for sharing.
Thank you. Clear simple practical video with no music, graphics or other fillers - just good useful tips.
Thank you very much Stephen, glad you enjoyed it
Excellent video. Instructions were clear and concise.
Thank you. Glad it was helpful.
It was sharply apparent that you have great skills when you fold those slanted edges together and had them fit to a perfect rectangle.
Thank you very much Marie
Really loved watching a professional do his job!
Thank you so much
Your work is very clean. I also like the simplicity of the build. Thanks for uploading this video!
Thank you very much for your comment. Apologies for the late reply but I'm trying to clear my "Comments I haven't responded to" list.
Okay, you may be my new hero... I am a novice painter, woodworker, maker... And I think I learned at least 10 things in this video that will make my life easier when woodworking and crafting. Great tutorial on making a floating frame, PACKED with tricks and tips to use with woodworking in general! Can't wait to spend time in the shop this weekend!
Thank you very much Sven. I'm very happy that it was so helpful for you
Great instructional video. Clear, concise, no waffle ... super tidy work area ... confident craftsman. Impressed ! From a Painting Pom.
Thanks very much Breece.
Awesome job, I know this video was created way back in 2017 but it still inspires newbies like myself in 2022. THANK YOU!
Thank you very much Justin. The beauty of YT is that these resources are here forever for people to discover. This video is still one of my most popular
Great tutorial, thank you! The painting looked great in the frame and I loved how the wood had been in the family over 90 years now!
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it. The timber adds a great story to the painting
Awesome tutorial and thank you! The idea of spray painting the backing frame in black is a nice touch.
Thank you Julian. The black background is needed really to enhance the shadow effect.
Excellent video as always, honestly out of all my subscriptions you are the only chanel in which I do not fast forward or skip any of it. You could make an hour long video and I'd still watch the whole thing. Your tips are extremely useful and I look forward to using them on future projects. I also look forward to the next video, thank you for them.
Hey Robert, thanks for the awesome comments, so glad you enjoy the channel. Cheers mate.
Robert B ...Cannot agree more.
me too
You explain the framing process step by step clearly. Splendid talent!
Thank you very much Jen-Dan.
Great tutorial. I have a large painting hanging up unframed for the past 25 years. So I now know what to do with it. Out with the table saw.
Sounds good Jeremy. Glad the video was helpful!
Wow that canvas really pops with that frame, I love it. When you first showed the canvas it looked very flat and lifeless, but the frame really made it come alive. Very nicely done !!
Yeah Les, I have to agree with you totally. The artist loved it too. Cheers mate.
Wow! Gluing the backing pieces into place is just the tip I needed!!! Cheers!
Glad it helped mate
I've now watched too many videos on this subject, and can therefore say categorically that this is the best one! I love the steps along the way to make it come out the best it possibly can ... many thanks for sharing your experience.
Thank you Gary, im very glad you found it helpful
I’ve made a few floating frames in the past, and your excellent video gave me three new ideas that I never thought of before. Thank you! And cheers Mate!
No worries Glenn, thanks mate. Glad you got something out of it.
The Sandpaper on the scraper is just what I need for my project, Thanks for the tip!!
No worries Marty, glad to be able to help.
I really liked this video. A no fuss approach to the frame making with some great tips such as the masking tape for getting tight joints. Artistic as well as the final result really works. I look forward to more. J
Thank you very much John.
This frame is absolutely stunning. The color of the wood beautiful! Watching your video was very relaxing thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much Magdalena, glad you liked it
very well explained. Will give a try to make one.
Thanks for that feedback Artur and good luck with it.
So many great tips! I’m used to having all the space and tools when I lived at my mom’s house, but now living in an apartment it’s harder to make things. I love that I can take this tutorial and use the simple set up and tools that I have to recreate the project (though mine will be far less precise than this masterpiece) thanks for the tutorial!!
My pleasure, no problem at all. I’m glad the video will be helpful and have no doubt you will do an amazing job 👍🏼
Amazing , satisfying and neat. U are so professional man. Best of luck.
Ive been watching tutorials over and again and this is my favourite. ❤
Thank you so much Nicole
Outstanding work, simplistic and effective.
Thank you very much!
This was very clear and well explained. I have many personal paintings I have done and want to frame but don’t want to pay for pre-made frames. Now I can make them custom myself. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful Jerome. It'll be great to frame your own paintings
You explained that so clearly, I was a bit daunted but now am confident to attempt one myself. Thank you. 👍👍👍👍
No problem Bridie, so happy to have given you the confidence to do it yourself
Genius performance woodworking! learned so many little tricks, well done.
Continue to be healthy and happy.
Thank you very much, glad it was so helpful and same to you
No words can express how this video is helpful , thanks a lot 🙏
Thank you very much Ali, you’re most welcome 😊
This is a great tutorial. I love how meticulous you are with your work. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful frame for a beautiful paiting of Ayers Rock (I think). The heat shrink is a master touch. Thanks for the vid, will get cracking tomorrow to make one.
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it. Happy framing
even though i cannot make anything like in this video, this video was a real pleasure to watch. my father was a master with wood

nice job, the black painted interior makes a great border
Thanks Dave, the black gives the shadow effect.
Great video! Informative without a lot of jabber and lots of great tips and tricks.
.
Nice job. I picked up a couple of great tips. Sandpaper on a putty knife is genius plus the shrink to make the cable tidy. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Scott, my pleasure.
Your shop is neat. The way you work is logic. The execution is perfect. The tools are great. Obviously, the final product is amazing. Congratulations!
Thank you very much for the very kind words
Very nice clean work, miters fit extremely well. Finished product fit the art piece with a solid match in color contrast. Cedar usually does have nice grain and is a nice wood to work with. Thanks for the instructional video........my compliments.........she's right mate!!
Thank you very much Robert
I could watch you all day. You make it look so easy. Lovely stuff.
Thanks so much mate. this is the kind of feedback that keeps me going
Your video is the first one I clicked on for floating frames, and a very well produced video as well as frame. Well done. It's a pleasure watching you work - therapeutic.
Thank you Ken, thats a lovely comment
Your heat shrink idea is genius !
Thanks very much Colin, keeps it neat and tidy
I've built several frames in my life. I never built a floating picture, but I'm not sure if I've ever noticed one. I have a 24 X 41 piece I'm doing for myself;
I'll have to give it a go. Very nice work.
Thanks mate, they are great for a more modern look. I hope you enjoy making yours.👍
Perfectly done and beautiful result.
Thank you very much
Excellent walk through Sir! I feel confident I can make a great frame for my canvas. Thank you and thumbs up.
Thanks mate and really glad the video was helpful for you
Love the sandpaper on the scraper and heat shrink tips. Great looking frame!
Thanks very much Troy.

Thank you very much
@@DownUnderWoodWorks I tried to find you online and see where you are based. Do you have a website?
Very clear and well presented instructions.

Thank you! Ive watched several floating frame videos and this is definitely the best and easiest!
Thank you, i'm really glad its helpful
Really Excellent. Your attention to detail is exceptional.
Thank you very much Shelley
You have such a great studio workshop!! That would be a dream to work in a studio with an extraction fan and all the tools ... thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much grant, its my bit of paradise
Verywell presented video and beautifully made frame, gave me the confidence to try and make my own frame, so here I go, wish me luck. 😊
Good luck George but I’m sure you’ll be fine mate 🙏
Love that push stick. Great idea
Thanks Andy, glad you like it. I still use it everyday
Brilliant video. Thanks very much. I've always found the idea of making my own floater frames daunting, but this video easily explains the process with such clarity.
Thank you very much. Hopefully I've inspired you to try it yourself.
Thankyou so much for your clear, concise style of presentation. Your words are neat, your work is super neat and so is your workshop! :)
Thank you very much Ozlem, comments like yours help to keep me motivated and inspired.
Wow, you made it look so easy that I can't wait to try it out myself. Thank you so much for such an informative video.
No problem Chrissy, good luck with it and enjoy.
Your shop work and methodical process is a lost art. KUDOS mate!
Thank you very much Luke, very kind words mate
What a masterful job!!
Thank you very much
I just did a floating frame similar to the one you made but I didn't have a black reveal. That is what I loved about the frame you put together here. I have about 6 more frames to make and I will make them all with the black reveal you showed in this video. Thanks for the tip. Great work by the way.
Thanks very much and I'm glad you got something from the video
Super nice job! Well presented and described. Using a table Saw sled is the best way to go when you want perfect 90 degree joints. I have to make one for a friend and I’ll be borrowing your technique.
Agree mate, the table saw is so much more accurate than a mitre saw
Thanks for the video. It was the best and most concise of many that I watched.
Thanks very much Al, glad it was helpful!
The heat shrink on the wire was a first for me. Great idea!
Thanks mate, its just a little professional touch i think
That scraper sandpaper tip is great!
Thanks mate, glad you liked it
Beautiful work on the floating frame. So happy I come upon your page.
Thank you Carroll, and i'm glad too that you found my channel
Nice work... I like the idea of painting the inside black
Thanks Joe, it gives the best shadow effect
The end result is perfect, exactly what that painting needed!
Thanks very much Mario, good to hear from you. What have you been up to?
@@DownUnderWoodWorks I've really pulled back my time in the workshop the last couple of years, focusing on work a lot more instead.
Was a bit of a sacrifice, but now I've managed to get myself to a point where I can start enjoying my days off, and importantly can now spend a little bit of coin on tools, instead of always just making do. I wasn't enjoying trying to make sandpaper last longer among other things lol.
I don't know if I'll get back into making videos, but I'm enjoying just watching them again at least!
@@woodfather All the best mate, whatever you choose to do.
Beautiful frame and love the fact that it is re-purposed wood with a back story. And that tip about using shrink wrap over the wire..brilliant. I'll be using that. Thanks!
Thanks very much, glad you got something from it.
thank you! this is so far the best way to make a floating frame i was searching in youtube
Thank you very much Leo, glad I could help. Check out my latest video where I show a slight change to the way I make the frames ua-cam.com/video/l2xYlErV1Hw/v-deo.html
This was so helpful! I appreciate how you explained everything, finally helped me get the inside/outside dimensions BANG ON! Ripper of a vid, mate!
Awesome, so glad it was helpful for you
I like the black shadow paint idea.
Thanks Gery. It enhances the shadow effect
Very instructional with more than a few great tips, like the aforementioned use of the scraper for sanding and for glue clean-up. The section with the high speed filming of the table-sawing was a little scary to watch, though, even knowing it was not at normal speed.
Ha, all good here Tom. Glad to hear the video was helpful.
Fantastic end result.
Thank you very much 👍🏼
Really nice. A lot of the time,
Picture frames hid the edges of the picture but you've kept the whole picture in with the frame and it looks awesome.
Great video mate 👍🏽 👌 👏
thanks Ian
Great tutorial, with excellent tips. Thank you!
My pleasure, glad it was helpful
i like how practical you are man
thank you very much
Nice. After watching a few videos on this topic it is clear that you are a professional in the first few minutes. I really appreciate the attention to detail. Even if I had no use for the framing project, just seeing the table saw jigs and clever tips you offer is time well spent.
Cheers from The Great White North
Thank you very much for your kind words and great feedback.
Perfect just what I need to watch! Thanks!
Glad I could help, thanks for watching 👍
Oh yeah i see what you mean Vic, a nice build like this with a with a special twist makes a great vid.
Thanks mate
Excellent ideas using the masking tape to hold the pieces together and also using sandpaper on a scraper to get into corners. Thank you for the tips and for this very helpful video. :)
Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for the comment, very glad it was helpful
Beautiful job my friend! I love the heat shrink touch on the hanging wire. Thanks for sharing this nicely produced video.

Great video!! I especially like the shrink tubing idea. That gives a really nice final touch of quality. Well done.

No worries Chupito, thanks very much.

No problem, glad it was helpful!
That is lovely work , I will definitely try this technique tar
Thank you. All the best with it mate.
Amazing work and lesson!
Thank you so much!
Thank you very much. Glad you liked it!
Maaate, thanks for the content !! Super informative. My canvas artwork is 1020 x 1020 but think I'll still give it a go DIY.
My pleasure Jimmy, glad you liked it. one change I've made recently to the way i do my frames is i use a single piece of board such as 3 or 6 mm MDF/ply as the backer rather than 4 thin strips. Its easier and gives the frame better stability and stiffness.
This vid is full of great tips.. Thanks for the full walk through! Great vid
No worries, very glad it was helpful for you.
Very nice! I make these frames myself. Love the heat-shrink tip!
Thanks Craig, great to hear that mate.
Looking really good and it sure pops out of the frame.
Thanks very much mate, this was one of my favourites.
Wow! What a fantastic frame. You are a master, and some excellent tips. Great video.
Thank you very much!
I had absolutely no idea how to frame a canvas prior to watching this video.. Thank you very much, although I doubt I'll make it look so easy :-)
You'll be great Peggy, just got to give it a go
