The GE 150 is worth its time and size. Have one and it is sturdy for my use. I've used stomp boxes for years and this accepts those stomps but have really relied on Mooer's noise suppressor and verb plus the distortion banks. In due time, will connect the digital connections of the computer and phone outlets to experiment. So far this unit is very flexible. Sometimes it's is better to adapt than just buy and throw away before giving opportunity to work with. This tool as said is for practicing but I believe is flexible to be used live if your not toasted and desire simplicity. Then get a different brand. Why do people waste money by not trying and having a more opened mind to change. Change is inevitably and change in some cases is good. Change the internal settings to suit your taste. Simple.
Hey, this is a great, in-depth review, but I do have one question: Near the end, when you were comparing between a mic'd cabinet and the internal IRs, what do you mean by a "mic'd cabinet?" This sounds like a dumb question, but did you run the signal right to a cabinet with no amplifier head or did you run it through an amplifier?
I wonder about Mooer GE 150 and Harley Benton DNA fx .. difference? probably no .. just a look .. QUESTION - is it possible to save your Preset (User) settings on any of them?
I bought one of these and it is a brilliant all rounder. Very customisable with plugins etc. One thing I cannot find an answer to......it doesn't appear through Reaper DAW as an interface. I've tried everything I can think of, drivers, many different cables etc even contacted Mooer directly but no response from them at all. If anyone could offer any guidance I'd be eternally grateful 🙏
Can you tell me if the unit switches banks instantaneously, like if you wanted to use it to switch between two guitar rigs live? Or is there a slight delay?
Sorry for the late response yes there is the tiniest but of latency between tone switching. Honestly it is almost negligible if you pre empt this and step ever so slightly earlier@matturner6890
I connected the OTG to the laptop for a stereo mix recording. I love it. Custom IRs can be imported but sometimes I just browse the in built cabs and fine tune it and it works fine. For some gigs, I use one output to an amp's return and the other to a mixer. For fun when I want to use the front of an amp, I just use the inbuilt gain pedals alone. Eq is fully customizable. How hard you have to press the exp pedal to trigger the wah is also customizable. Cons is that you can't rearrange the pedal order. (mod to dist etc.,) Exp pedal can customize the min/max value of volume but not for effect parameters like mix or delay time. I think that's where the GE200 comes in. But I'm fine with what I have now for what I need.
Hey mark what a great name. I wanted to ask you about the mooer ability to learn licks with. I bought a digitech rp300 for its one great marshall 900 tone. But why i like it is you can record up to like 8 seconds of a song then loop it back and slow it down to any increments without changing the pitch. So if u want to work on a yngwie run you can record it loops back whatever you sampled and you can slow it down to 1/2 speed 1/4 speed or 1/8 speed and each note is digitally held to pitch without going way low. Plus you can pause the play back restart it or play it at full speed. Its a feature called learn a lick. Does this have that ability to record music and play it back at different speeds? Or is that something the ge300 or a fancier model does? Thanks for any advice before i buy one.
@@baronsting Awesome name! hehe... The GE150 has a looper function but unfortunately it doesn't have the RP's Learn a Lick feature. I usually do that in Ableton where I can control the speed and even the pitch in case I have to learn a Pantera song (they play in a slightly lower pitched tuning) or if I have to learn Yngwie in standard tuning. Reaper can do this too and it's free. Although the pedal has JCM 800, 900 and a Plexi, if you like the RP's Marshall, that's cool. I prefer the Mooer for the Engl Powerball emulation. Jet City's a good Marshall one. Bottom line, If you enjoy jamming at home, gig maybe on the weekends or for fun, the 150 is good enough. But if money's no object, by all means go for it!
Thank you mark for getting back to me. The internet allows communication between musicians that was never possible when i was young. It makes learning about different gears capabilities so you know what any piece of equipment has to offer or doesnt feature. Since i already own both a digitech Rp300 & 1000 i think i might just buy the mooer150 for its low price. Im into micro soldering and starting learning watch repair so im sure i can replace or fix my Rp300's headphone output jack. Because these are the tiny 3.5mm size they are easily damaged by stressing and bending the tiny copper contact strips that make the connection to the tip & sleeve of the cords male input jack. If i get the mooer im sure your right and i can hook it up to my apple computer and run free recording & playback software to slow down recordings to learn riffs. Thanks for your info and help!!
@@baronsting You're welcome. You'd be happy to know you won't be needing to use the 3.5mm to connect to your laptop to record with the Mooer. There's a USB option for that. There's even another USB connection if you need to store presets on your laptop or load IR's into the unit. You'll now only need to use the 3.5 only if you really have to. Have fun with your purchase!
I've owned and tested, in multiple live situations, all of the different versions of this firmware build (for example, the Mooer GE150 is an exact clone, but with a plastic housing). They all would be outstanding units, were it not for a couple of fatal, deal-breaking flaws that I've had the displeasure of experiencing while in live use. So, yeah...NOT good. The first problem I encountered was that, randomly, on some but not all banks where you build your own preset, the modulation effect will reset itself to maximum level, no matter where you set it when you built the preset. Yeah,I know. Weird! And their support team didn't know how to fix it. Again (let's see if I can explain this better): if you set up a preset with a modulation effect (flanger, let's say), and you set the level to "5", and saved it, here's what might happen on some (butagain, not all) banks -- you'll turn off the unit, and then, when you turn it back on, the level on the flanger for that preset will reset itself to a level of "10". Have you ever hit a pedal in a live performance and had one of the values you thought you set to your preference be COMPLETELY out of whack? Yeah, it sucks. The second problem I've found is that the expression pedal can NOT be reliably set to any other values than the default of: Min=0%, Max=100%. This sucks because I, personally, lie to set my volume pedals to Min=50%, Max=100%, so that I have a set rhythm volume (Min) and a set lead volume (Max). Easy, right? Well, these pedals don't seem to be able to do that. No matter how I've tried (and again, only on certain banks), it just goes backto factory default. So anyway, these are things you'll never hear from any of these gear review channels, because odds are, they don't actually use the gear they review enough to find all the practical flaws. What really irked me, though, is that the company's own support team was utterly clueless.
I have personally never had a problem with the modulation level at all. The volume pedal on the unit I set to 70% min and 100% max. It can do that. What the expression pedal cannot do (unless GE200) is have a custom min/max for effect assignments. Like if you wanted to control delay times and such. Other than that, for volume purposes? It should be fine. I think I've never had a problem with it because I updated the firmware and calibrated the exp pedal right out of the box before playing with it.
There are some serious issues with this gear. First - the latency. I could not sync well with the drums after playing without it. There's this strange feeling the sound is just to late - it's very noticeable and annoying. Second thing - it's very noisy, it has some strange overdrive-like artifacts on some clean (no overdrive) effects - short cracks. Mooer issued a patch to their software to fix that but it improved a little - not much. Another thing - the quality of DA/AD processing. It just sounds like very very cheap electronic effects with strange digital artifacts, like a poor quality MP3 file. On 'clean guitar' settings it made my tube amp sound like a cheap behringer combo with a very poor digital reverb on. I've returned it - I wanted a 'not the best but decent' but I could not stand the latency and the 'digital noise''.
The latency of the way they match the hardware so you're running 24-bit a/d convertors, then it feeds into a 32-bit processor and has to write eight 0's into the 24-bits of data and we end up hearing it. *Every brand anymore seems to do this but some go through the process of fixing it, other's do not.* All it really takes is 20 cents to add an analog buffer to crank up gain into the 24-bit converter, but most brands never seem to figure this out. When we hear these online demos, these guys get the gear for free for their demos, and run direct from the USB into the PC and dodge the latency "splatter" you and I have come to notice over the last 20+ years of the digital takeover. I have old Zoom 16-bit shit that yeah, it sounds digital, but there's no latency smearing and splattering; this old shit is a godsend when you're playing and shredding on an 8 string.

Nick, you are one heck of a presenter. Sold.
I didn't see any mention of the expression pedal. What does it control?
Super helpful thanks!
You didn't touch the expression pedal... Volume, wah wah? But Great Review so far the best. Thanks

Sir this product use in flute in live program?
Nice... Love it... Next please do Nux MG-30 they claim white box like fractal axe fx??
Why is this demo in mono???
Can this be plugged into a home theater system through the receiver?
Sure you can

Sir, Is it a factory preset?
mooer ge-150 or zoom g3x ?
Is it possible to load 2 overdrives in one signal chain??
No
