He is regarded as one of the twelve wise men known as the Parayi Petta Panthirukulam, born to the Parayi (a low-caste woman) and Vararuchi, a Brahmin sage. Though labeled "mad" (Bhranthan in Malayalam) by society, Naranathu is known for his unconventional wisdom, sharp wit, and philosophical insights.

One of the most famous stories associated with him involves rolling a large stone up a hill every day, only to let it roll down. When asked why, he is said to have remarked that life itself is a repetitive struggle, and the stone rolling back symbolizes how people are trapped in the endless cycles of effort and failure. This act is interpreted as a metaphor for the absurdity of human existence, similar to the Greek myth of Sisyphus.

He lived like an ascetic and often challenged the rigid norms of society, highlighting the futility of materialism and ego.
