Wait wait WAIT. What if, when Kalluto said he wanted to "get his brother back" by joining the Troupe, he meant NEITHER Alluka NOR Feitan... but Illumi? As in, the un-manipulated version of Illumi that he once was before manipulating himself. Removing such a self-imposed nen needle would likely require nen equally powerful. And as we know, Kalluto is also a manipulator, so maybe he was hoping to get strong enough to be able to do so himself.
Dude i think you are onto something… I do wonder how loyal Kalluto is to the family, i mean if he was really loyal to the family he would have preferred illumi to stay manipulated so he still is the assassin that the family needs and wants. Maybe Kalluto wanting to bring back the real Illumi is just a signal that Kalluto is rebelling. Maybe Nanika is the catalyst that will end the legacy of the Zoldyck family as they all break free from this sense of responsibility one by one… going back to the theory that Nanika is Ai, a calamity sent back with Zig Zoldyck to curse the Zoldyck family because he dared to go to the dark continent, this curse could potentially be behind separating the family and the downfall of the Zoldycks.
@@JamKyt9 Unknown. He hasn't shown up since then. But he was a secretive guy to begin with, and him not showing up for the election is meaningless since playing Greed Island only required nen, not a Hunter License.
@@Yonkage-ik5qb So if anything he could've just been there because Hisoka payed him to and the only reason he joined Genthrus group was so he could stay alive long enough.
@@JamKyt9 The Nen exorcist was already on Greed Island before Hisoka and the troupe, in fact he is the reason Kuroro sent Hisoka there, to find the Nen exorcist. After Greed he went with Hisoka to help Kuroro, and after that we know nothing, maybe killed for secrecy or just went back to his home My bet is that he is in Meteor City making money as the Troupe personal exorcist. Because if I was Kuroro, I would not let that guy out of my sight before killing Kurapika.
Best way to find out if a technique works is to use it on yourself and if Illumi isn’t afraid of doing that then there’s no telling what he is truly capable of.
We have mostly seen Illumi through Killua’s POV in the anime thus far, so it makes sense that there’s more we didn’t see. When Illumi talks to Hisoka over the comms in the Hunter exam arc, he is more casual and less demanding. Hisoka didn’t react much to the emotional actions of Illumi, and even knew exactly how to set him off. Because of the difference in relationships, Hisoka and Killua both know a different side of Illumi. I think we’re just getting to see hisokas side of Illumi now.
I personally subscribe to the idea that illumi’s personality was molded into what it is today due to the intense childhood that came from being the firstborn to 2 ruthless assassin parents. Not to mention that being the firstborn with no siblings to look too in such a traumatizing situation would definitely shape those more intense aspects of his personality. The intense lust for complete control of nanika’s power definitely checks out, and makes me think there might also be some resentment, considering that killua being named the heir to the family even though illumi was the firstborn means they think the roof on killua’s powers supersede his. All in all I view illumi as truly broken in, considering his stance on family and being willing to sacrifice himself all to be viewed in a higher place by them.
What if he used the needle on himself to get rid of his emotions (for the most part) because of his brutal childhood? Like maybe he was just a sensitive, caring kid traumatized by his parents' training methods and because he wanted to live up to their expectations he decided to become this unfeeling machine. So his feelings like genuine love for his family gets twisted into obsession etc. Always found Illumi to be the most interesting character.
they broke him so much emotionally that he thinks what he had done to killua (putting needle, killing random people he helped) was love. misery loved company
I hope Illumi gets revealed to have unmatched power at least a little over Hisoka. I feel we seen so much of Hisoka we forgot how untouchable Illumi seems.
Yeah I mean imagine, If illumi uses "In" in his Needles that simple thing will make him so tough to defeat. Unlike shalnark he can just throw hundreds of invisible needles
Illumi is strong no doubt ... But his untouchable because his a zoldyck ... Even morel don't want to engage in illumi when killua ask them to hunt illumi since illumi basically did a mass murder. Using innocent civilians to be his puppet! And later on morel advice those anti netero faction to not revealed illumi's name or else they all going to die. They do die eventually killed by hisoka!
@@imawarrior3516 sorry I meant "in" not en still trying to figure out all this stuff, the only power system I genuinely want to learn both intriguing and challenging. Also can't you just use "In" in our body to hide ourselves? I think that's what Uvo did to sneak attack. I never saw anyone using like that only objects
I think Illumi's true personality is similar to Hisoka... which is why they seem to get along... but he did something to himself to suppress his true self so that he can do his family's work... Edit: spelling error
Finally an Illumi theory after so long, thank you! I swear we need more Illumi content! He's a character who, despite not being shown very much, is so interesting, especially with his past. Y'all undermine my boi so much, he's a master assassin for god's sake, one of the best Nen users here! Although weaker than him, even Hisoka shows interest in him, he is one of the few *humans* who come close to Hisoka! Even post-chimera Killua feared him. Also, he even tries to care for his family in his own distorted ways (can only blame Kikyo and Silva for that upbringing tho, he must have had it so hard. They just allow Killua to do what he wants, but im pretty sure he suffered pretty bad) And now he's a part of the PT too, cmmon guys show him some love. -Not an Illumi fangirl ^///^
Have you heard of the theory that Prenuptial Agreement/Engagement Ring is Illumi’s Nen ability? Essentially, by fulfilling the conditions of the prenuptial agreement (for example, kill Hisoka or help Hisoka kill the Spider), he can get full control over his target. Unlike with the Needle People, the target could complete many complicated tasks and not die from it. The theory states that he might have created this ability to control Nanika. There’s that scene where we look inside Illumi’s mind and see Alluka/Nanika manipulated by Killua manipulated by him. Basically “you control what I want and I control you.” If he uses that ability on Killua, he can fully control Killua without the risk of accidentally killing him, but before that, he needs to test it (on Hisoka).
Rookie HxH fans- Killua and Meruem are so cool, They the best Real HxH fans- Maturity is when you truly understand the characters like Shaiapouf, Pariston, Illumi, Gon, Chrollo. Togashi has no bounds for creativity and imagination. (Ofc Meruem, Killua great are but characters like Pouf and Pariston are marvelous with limited screentime
It seems utterly in character for Illumi to have put one of his manipulation pins in himself to be the best protector of his family as he could humanly be. Perhaps a series of pins, maybe even the ones all over his outfit that work as a priority system for what he cared about when he first started using them.
I don’t think the Hisoka is Illumi theory is dead for one simple reason…they can both change their appearance! The Hisoka we see on The Black Whale 1 could be Illumi disguised as Hisoka in a double switch
I still cant come up with a good reason why Illumi would be on the Black Whale when his immediate and ultimate goal is to secure Nanika's power for himself. From what we can tell, Killua and Nanika are still on the mainland. Seems unlikely he would pick up contract work that would likely result in his demise far far away
Nanika (or, at least, Nanika's power) came from the Dark Continent, and Illumi knows he will probably never catch Killua, so he's going to the Dark Continent to get his own Nanika@@adamentcondition3002
Being from a severely dysfunctional family myself I love how the whole zoldyck family has been written and set up cause it’s very realistic in terms of dynamics, to my own life
Damn togashi really creates excellent characters, illumi is such an intriguing character and behind his mask he could be hiding the fact that bungee guy has the properties of both rubber and gum.
Illumi also bargained in the hunter exam against Killua that if he quits he would spare Gon. So although I could see a pseudo self manipulation happening, particularly because psychopaths are known to push needles inside them, this might not exactly be the case.
How I see it is that Shalnark is self-taught, so his ability might not be as thought out. It also has the advantage of being able to go into Autopilot, which we’ve never seen the full power of. Still a weaker ability however
It’s not. Illumi puppets while they are many are very primitive while Shalnaks puppets can still act as a real person plus autopilot is a great ace. So in short Illumi chose quantity while Shalnark chose quality. Plus Illumi can control people only if he pierce through their brain while Shal could pick any part of body but Illumi can also control different parts of body of other people. So it’s not that one above other they just a polar opposite in the way how they use manipulation on people
Its legit just high standards and helicopter parenting to protect them, they didnt even kill alluka just minimised the damage he was causing You cant judge them by peaceful first world standards when evil gods possess people and everyone has superpowers, many using them maliciously
@0:24 Liam : "He's probably the purest manipulator in HxH, Rarely if ever splashes into other affinities" I agree with the fact that his mastery of manipulation is the greatest we've seen so far. Yet I would actually ALSO (Liam's voice) argue that his mastery and subtle display of emission nen is INSANE!!! One of the simplest ways to recognize emission nen type is with aura detached from the user's body (like Kurapika needed Emission nen for judgment chain to work on Chlorro remotely). In Illumi's case, the needle he's placed on Kirua was still working fine while both of them were on completely different continents (Best example is Kiruaa being on greed island while Illumi, as far as we know, was not). Kurapika as a natural conjurer had to use Emporor Time condition/vow to tap into 100% emission mastery to do that on Chrollo with judgement chain. Knuckle, who's also a conjurer, His potclean stops adding interest if the target is beyond 100 meters radius (see chapter 235)... Which is a distance so short an non nen user athlete can cross under 12seconds. Let alone pro hunters... Emitter nen mastery for natural conjurer is 40% max, and it shows with Knuckle. And 80% max for natural pure Manipulators like Illumi. This feat alone (having his needle work on a target who's physically teleported miles away in an area surrounded by nen master's nen at that, tells me that his mastery and display of emitter nen category is pretty much very close to 100% if not as good as Kurapika's in Emperor time mode, aka 100% 😎
BUT it's been stated that you can fill Objects with Nen. Even if Aura and Nen dont mean to mean different things her,e this seems important. MAybe Emission isnt always needed to keep the Strength/Potency of something not touching your Body anymore?
@katsu2887 That... is not very 'Internet' of u. Not very patriotic to the Onine-World at all. This whole 'Polite'-jazz you got going on, this weird 'I changed my mind instead of bringing-up someone's mother's Weight'
The Zoldyck family is wild. Watching the father tell Killua he is only going over Anika’s rules cause he loves him only to see him a few chapters later standing beside Illumi as he says he is going to keep Killua as a puppet to control Nanika, with zero reaction.
I just remembered i once had a real great Idea for Manipu-Nen: Force-Activation, the Ability to 'cause a Misfire'. Think about it: This is not the downtrotten Path of Brainwashing and yet definetly-possible from what we know. Think about the Possibities of forcefully Acivating Abilities. It would be the Ultimate Hit or Miss, really. Misfires can cause or end Wars. At Worst you just draw Aggro onto you but at Best you could intercept someone who does what Gon did, meaning a timelimit Supercharge-Mod Suicide-Bomb. If a One-Minute Now-or-Never-Attack activates or is fired before it was meant to and before the Intended Target is even Near, this would make all go to waste You may Die or u may Destablize a whole War-Strategy by making the Bombs go up before planned
My theory is that because illumi is the first child, he is also like 7 years older than milluki something must've happened so that he was no longer the heir. We don't know if silva or zeno has siblings, but considering illumi was the only child for a long while, i assume he must've had an even worse childhood than killua. The other kids seem as a reaction. The parents went too far with illumi but not enough with Milluki which is why he was so lazy. They felt killua was perfect but had two other kids quickly after that because kikyo was getting older and wouldn't have been able to have kids as easily as she got older.
Maybe Illumi always hated Killua? Illumi is the first born and already extremely powerful, yet his father and grandfather has already designated Killua (a child back then) as the heir and next leader of the Zoldyck family. Maybe the needle were orders from his father, with the simple commands: 1. Love Killua, 2. Protect Killua.
I do genuinely believe it must be something like this. To endure all the torture of their upbringing and then be told your younger brother is the protege that will carry on the legacy, would probably drive a normal child crazy. And maybe as a way to change his own emotions as a means of self preservation in the family was to go to these lengths. Maybe another reason, but I love these theories
I like the idea of Illumi being on autopilot as a baseline. It provides a very interesting contrast on class within the world as well. Where Shalnark only uses autopilot to finish something he couldn’t otherwise win. And Illumi using autopilot as baseline, and may very well just depend on his actual mind when pushed out of autopilot mode. Shalnark being poor growing up, feeling like nothing would get him out of meteor city except Nen. And depending on Nen in form of autopilot to win hard battles. Whereas Illumi grew up incredibly wealthy and from a prestigious family of assassins, trusts himself to get the job done because he comes from the background to do it. I like the idea that if he comes into a specific situation that he would come out of autopilot and potentially be even stronger. Using autopilot to handle the monotony of his everyday life kind of makes sense and would be incredibly efficient.
Also, the idea that Illumi broke the needle he put in his own head and is now potentially stronger for it, is so amazing. It mirrors how Hisoka also got stronger. And to see them both level up reminds me of Gon and Killua breaking their respective mental ceilings to achieve new heights in the ant arc. Hopefully we get to see a new and improved Illumi in action.
It's an interesting theory. I like it. We've seen Hisoka, but we still haven't seen him use Bungee Gum. It's possible that Illumi and Hisoka have switched places with each other. Rereading Hisoka's lines, they all seem like something Illumi would say. It reminds me of his talk with Gon after the Hunter Exam. He might've used his needles to make himself look like Hisoka.
I was so into the theory of Illumi being Isoka in disguise, I like to especulate more but damn man, with so many legends of mangaka dying in the recent past years I'm more terrified than ever of hunter x hunter being totally unfinished
Silva is worse than Ging by far. Ging may be negligent but he still left Gon with a loving family, created Greed Island to train him and entrusted Kite to mentor Gon. Silva and the Zoldycks tortured and abused Killua his whole life and put a mind altering needle in his head. You can't compare that two.
1 thing to note about the “Illumi threatening Hisoka” scene In Japanese, the word usage Hisoka used AND his hand gesture suggested Hisoka wanted to…. bed Killua as well
@legacy yeah I immediately caught that, first time I watched that episode. That ecchi hand gesture was undeniable. HXH characters really love playing mind games. And Togashi enjoys playing mind games on us readers, as well. One of the 3 main reasons why HE IS my *_mangaka God._*
I also heard Hisoka did it to so Illuma would be pissed and let out a lot of nen - just enough nen that Killua would be alerted. He didn't want Killua caught as he revealed later.
There’s no real evidence to suggest Hisoka would kill-murder kalluto if he is in disguise as illumi… kinda seems more likely he wouldn’t given his response to illumi when he mentions killing Killua.. Hisoka is a whore for a good fight and illumi is arguably the next best thing to chrollo, and yet he turned down the opportunity even after goading illumi to the point of being fully battle ready…? I think Hisoka has a more thoughtful side than we’ve been shown up to now, and I also think illumi is one of the few he considers to be a friend/acquaintance. Also: it’s worth noting the Zoldyck family is a much older and more enduring group of nen assasins than his current adversaries the spiders…not sure even Hisoka would willingly put himself at odds with 2 of the most powerful groups of men users(killers) in the world
I just realized that killua’s god speed is akin to in ‘Bleach’ when Ishida can use the reishi as strings to control his body as a puppet and to go beyond its human capabilities. I wonder if togashi was inspired after watching Ishida’s Quincy power. 5:16
Another way to see the change in how Illumi refers to himself is a change in general mindset. Ore is his work persona. Boku is when he is on personal time. Meaning Illumi could indeed have gone rogue. He is not operating as the assassin for his family but for his personal interests. And just like his "friend" Hisoka he is a bit childish as a person. About the only way to confirm this is for us to see him recieve a contract, though. As for the bargaining...he really only does that for Killua. I think it shows two things. One is that Illumi does see Killua as an equal. You only bargain with equals. If you are superior you make demands. If you are inferior you get demands made of you. So Illumi doesn't see his position as being superior to Killua. Two Illumi realizes Killua is intimidated by Illumi. So mind games through negotiation had a good chance of success. Just more manipulation. I think Illumi does care for his brother. But in a family as toxic as the Zolducs even friendly rivalries can be lethal. So there is no telling how absolutely nonsensical the reasoning Illumi is using in his quest to "help" his brother.
This theory makes so much sense! often times, the one impeding us to reach our goals is ourselves, we have needs that get in the way and we procrastinate. Perhaps Illumi suppressed certain needs, like the need of showering and smelling nice, the need of love, etc. so that he could achieve whatever goal he has, we know that he wants the power of Nanika now, but he probably had another important goal to needle himself. This fits well with Kalluto trying to bring his brother back.
@12:29 liam: ", Although I would say that if Hisoka were Illumi then it would be more than likely that Kalluto would already be de*d after being left alone with him" From Hisoka's perspective, it'd be a waste to end Kalluto now. He called her "tasty looking" when he saw her on GreedIsland,, and even tho he declared war on every single troupe member. She's just a new addition that has nothing to do with his current beef with the troupe for one, not a worthy opponent for him yet for two,, and for those who would say that this Hisoka isn't playing no more and he gets straight to the point. I agree with you guys. Yet he didn't end Machi on the spot so there's still some thinking and priorities and worth analysis in him
This is only a guess why Hisoka didn't end Machi on the spot, knowing she's a no joke nen user. Showing Machi he could have taken her out then and there, however chose not to and instead left her to deliver a message that the troupe would have figured out on their own seems like one of the most irritating ways Hisoka can insult Machi. Leaving her there when she probably knew he was about to chase down Kortopi and Shal and there was nothing she could do shows how serious an opponent Hisoka took her and her threats, not much at all. I know he caught her off guard, it still shows in a one on one if Machi slipped up a tiny bit that could be it for her against Hisoka. It also "forces" her to admit to the troupe Hisoka disabled her and she couldn't do anything about it or help Kortopi or Shal. If Chrollo was mad at what Hisoka did to Kortopi and Shal, Machi had to have been furious. Hisoka knows how loyal Machi is to the troupe and Chrollo. If Hisoka were to take out the troupe and purposefully leaves Machi for last, that seems like a Hisoka type of thing to do. If it got to the point where the troupe is either taken out and or some members bail out (Illumi and Kalluto) leaving Machi as the last member of the troupe, I don't think Hisoka would have much interest chasing down Machi, she would likely go to him anyways. Hisoka would have the option to end her or to "disable" her whenever she tries to attack him. Watching Machi try to get revenge for the troupe knowing she doesn't have much of a chance I think would be "more entertaining" to Hisoka than ending her. If the troupe falls my guess is Illumi, Kalluto and Machi have the best chances of surviving. I have no idea if Illumi and Kalluto are targets for Kurapika. All that being said, I wouldn't be surprised if Chrollo has something in place that could be put in play if the troupe ever seemed like it was about to be wiped out. Some way to be sure that if the troupe fell to one or two members, they'd have access to resources and networks to at the very least be able to start to rebuild. There are so many different scenarios and ways it could play out, it'll be interesting to see.
I think there’s a lot more to illumi than first meets the eye regarding his nen, more specifically about him being just a manipulator. For example I believe he isn’t as pure of a manipulator as some might think. He could use conjuration for his needles, emission to control his needle people from a distance and enhancement to increase the effectiveness of his commands. I think he is only a pure manipulator on the nen ring because of how much he uses the other category’s except the one opposite him (transmutation) with him using conjuration the most to create his needles and that’s why he always seemingly has an unlimited amount of them. He could also give these conjured needles special properties which help with extra control over his needle people, and because they are so small they would be quite aura effective considering it’s distance from manipulation on the nen ring. This would be why he has such good control using only two or three needles on a person with them being able to complete complex tasks most manipulators couldn’t wish to command. I have a feeling the only category he doesn’t dip into is transmutation due to how much aura it would cost him and because it doesn’t match his abilities very well.
If illumi is self manipulating that's genuis on so many levels but the fact he can't be manipulated is the best insurance he could ever want or need as an assassin bit it's not like he needs the insurance anyways
Quick correction. When Hisoka asks Illumi if he can "Do" Killua, prompting Illumi's enraged response, he didnt mean "Kill," He did the Japanese hand-gesture for sex when he said the word "do." Yeah... lmfao.
I think the difference between illumi & sharnalk's manipulation is that, yes illlumi can manipulate multiple people but he can NOT give them complex orders or ask them to do complex tasks like to speak, he just gives them a simple command to follow like "attack". If he wanted to give them complex orders like to speak full conversations while being themselves he would need to stick dozens of needles within his target (like he did with the ten dons) one needle against a strong nen user is not enough just like we've seen killua break out of illlumi's manipulation while he had no idea the needle was there in the first place so if he knew he would've broken out of it way before, illlumi needs to stick dozens of needles to fully control his target and make them do whatever he wants especially if they are nen users unlike sharnalk who can make his puppets speak and have full conversations and can even make them go autopilot unsupervised while still doing complex tasks like actioning stolen goods, all with just one needle. So I strongly disagree i thing sharnalk is a way more efficiant manipulator than illumi, and you forgot to mention that when he goes autopilot he doesn't remember anything that happened while he was in that mode, besides his muscles hurting the longer he remains in that mode, i'm sure if he stays in it for like 20 minutes he may even end up paralized the dude pulviresed an ant's super tough skin with just a small leg push (which gon couldn't do even with his rock attack) so not only would he have not died, he would've killed hisoka if he had his power
Wait but i thought the ones gon took down were higher ranked ants , also why are u using gon as a comparison for sharllak , when he is still weaker than hisoka , chr
@@M1LKY4K the playground extraction specialist said exactly what you think but he used the verb to do .... Bro asked to edp445 and look for cupcakes...
My favorite characters. I think one of his most dangerous attack ll be possible after auto manipulation with his own needle like what chalnark did before

I want to ask. There are buttons on both sides of Illumi's shirt, which resemble his needles, a lot. Could it that maybe the proof that he's indeed needle himself for a purpose?
I think it’s multiple needles. 1- tone down his power hunger 2- inject bed directing into his body by padding the need for massive ten output because he’s injecting into specific body parts 3- fall back nen reanimating him like how how hisoka revived himself
I think it would be interesting if it comes to find that Hisoka's amplified ability allows him to now wrap people in his texture surprise and control them rather than just it. It would be quite the plot twist, and could set up an interesting situation if Illumi ever gets out or if he has been killed already and Killua find outs. and the Illumi already being dead also makes a lot of sesne. As Illumi's powers don't really invite for an entertaining forward fight. hisoka ranked illumi incredibly high which means he was or was near "ripe for picking". and will push killua out of rage and retaliation. Similar to Gon with Pitou when he lost his mind.
The most important part of the "Isoka is actually Ilumi" theory is that Illumi has absolutely no reason to be on that ship. Unless NOW he wants to explore the new world to find clues about nanika. But that seems unlikely. He should be looking for ways to get Killua to his side either by manipulation or just negotiation, or maybe he can pretend to be good bro to use both nanika and aluka. Neither of those objectives have something to do with the new world.
7:00 We ALL know Hisoka was not saying he was going to kill Killua. He was going to do something arguably Worse. All the Hisoka glazers are way to quick to look over him as a Child Predator.
Plot twist Illumi is a nice and caring person at base but started manipulating himself to be more ambitious and power hungry since it makes your Nen stronger. He was probably more akin to the zombies he creates with manipulation until a certain event (like finally finding true ambition in controlling Nanika’s powers) caused the needle to break at the moment most advantageous to strengthening his power
Something i noticed when i watched the illumi orgasming at allukas power scene recently was how much illumis hair resembled pap. A lot like gons did. And the whole feeling of pleasure stuff that goes along with pap too. Idk! Something to think about!
@@NOCTURNALARROWI could picture that being a twist ending in HxH. Expeditions to the dark continent aren’t forbidden because of the calamities, it’s because humanity is already dead and what lives on the main continent is a mishmash of the dark continent calamities pretending to be human. It’s also one reason why there doesn’t seem to be criminal punishments for going to the dark continent, because to break the rules is a very human trait. Why punish those that seem to wear the mask best?
Zaza sacrificed her beauty to become extra tough. She ripped her tail off. I don't think she manipulated herself, I think she sacrificed for power like gon did.
@reichen666 I think he gets really excited and geeks out, like we all do. I can understand why he thought that. At the same time....its like....bro it was pretty obvious as manipulators don't need to do nen exchanges for upgraded abilities. Unless it's putting restrictions on yourself. Which doesn't turn your into a hulking beast.
Illumi during election arc: throwning needles at anyone and everyone without a care who he runs into. sending an army after his brother aka target. Illumi on black whale: Id like a room with a shower. Yeah im pretty sure its hisoka as illumi
@Edogawa199X i mean NOW. that comment was 8 months ago gang. And illumi still hasnt done anything, it may not be hisoka but it still might be illumi. My point was he is on the black whale with a huge supply of needle victims and hes not doing shit despite how quickly he cornered his siblings and killed the dons. Its off.
I've been speculating on his personality shift in later chapters for a while. I can't believe I never considered him using a needle on himself 🤯 this is definitely one of my favorite theories I've seen about him
This is a great theory! Could someone other than illumi forced him to self manipulate? Maybe he was cornered by silva because illumi's ambition was putting the whole zoldyk dynasty at risk.
I wouldnt be surprised if Illumi's self inserted needle, was inserted with a nen contract being spoken by Illumi. Which the condition for it being completed, was to be when Killua finally broke free of his needles control, and was powerful enough to take on challenges greater than his current power level/a guarenteed win.
I like to think that Hisoka is pretending to be Illumi, but also, I think Illumi is pretending to be Hisoka. They both have abilities where they can change their appearance so I feel like it's possible. Maybe Illumi agreed to this under the condition that Kalluto doesn't get killed, and I think it's weird that Hisoka is keeping a low profile with his hair down when he seemed very eager to go after the troupe.
I mean doesn't he react to Hisoka at the end of the anime when Hisoka asks if he can go after Killua (implying if he could kill/hunt him) unsure if this is also available in the Manga, this is during when Killua is racing Alluka to heal Gon.

Dude i think you are onto something…
I do wonder how loyal Kalluto is to the family, i mean if he was really loyal to the family he would have preferred illumi to stay manipulated so he still is the assassin that the family needs and wants. Maybe Kalluto wanting to bring back the real Illumi is just a signal that Kalluto is rebelling. Maybe Nanika is the catalyst that will end the legacy of the Zoldyck family as they all break free from this sense of responsibility one by one…
going back to the theory that Nanika is Ai, a calamity sent back with Zig Zoldyck to curse the Zoldyck family because he dared to go to the dark continent, this curse could potentially be behind separating the family and the downfall of the Zoldycks.
Is the greed island nen exorcist still alive or did he get off screened during chma?
After Greed he went with Hisoka to help Kuroro, and after that we know nothing, maybe killed for secrecy or just went back to his home
My bet is that he is in Meteor City making money as the Troupe personal exorcist. Because if I was Kuroro, I would not let that guy out of my sight before killing Kurapika.
Best way to find out if a technique works is to use it on yourself and if Illumi isn’t afraid of doing that then there’s no telling what he is truly capable of.
He is completely prepared to die for something Killian wants to do.
His regard for self preservation is non existent he just couldn't care less
We have mostly seen Illumi through Killua’s POV in the anime thus far, so it makes sense that there’s more we didn’t see. When Illumi talks to Hisoka over the comms in the Hunter exam arc, he is more casual and less demanding. Hisoka didn’t react much to the emotional actions of Illumi, and even knew exactly how to set him off. Because of the difference in relationships, Hisoka and Killua both know a different side of Illumi. I think we’re just getting to see hisokas side of Illumi now.
Cutout Illumi digging a hole was gold.
Props to the editor.

If illumi thought for a second that a needle to his own brain would give him a power buff he would try it
Have you heard of the theory that Prenuptial Agreement/Engagement Ring is Illumi’s Nen ability?
Could a being such as Nanika be controlled by a human? Since she is from the dark continent would a human be able to control them
Illumi is one of my favorite characters in all of hxh I really hope we get illumi and hisoka vs different groups in the troupe.
Thanks for typing that. I've felt so alone since the '99 series. Like no one notices Illumi. Whut? Why??
Rookie HxH fans- Killua and Meruem are so cool, They the best
Real HxH fans- Maturity is when you truly understand the characters like Shaiapouf, Pariston, Illumi, Gon, Chrollo. Togashi has no bounds for creativity and imagination. (Ofc Meruem, Killua great are but characters like Pouf and Pariston are marvelous with limited screentime
Same illumi is one of my favorites too I feel like he deserves more attention. People don't talk about him enough
I much prefer Zeno and Hisoka 😅
It seems utterly in character for Illumi to have put one of his manipulation pins in himself to be the best protector of his family as he could humanly be.
Perhaps a series of pins, maybe even the ones all over his outfit that work as a priority system for what he cared about when he first started using them.
Thank you! The whole video I keep thinking it was the needles in his clothes and they never got brought up
I don’t think the Hisoka is Illumi theory is dead for one simple reason…they can both change their appearance! The Hisoka we see on The Black Whale 1 could be Illumi disguised as Hisoka in a double switch
Or Chrollo. He dresses in a way that’s similar to what he would wear and even asks the same question Chrollo asked Neon.
Yall smoking some good crack 😂
I still cant come up with a good reason why Illumi would be on the Black Whale when his immediate and ultimate goal is to secure Nanika's power for himself. From what we can tell, Killua and Nanika are still on the mainland. Seems unlikely he would pick up contract work that would likely result in his demise far far away
Nanika (or, at least, Nanika's power) came from the Dark Continent, and Illumi knows he will probably never catch Killua, so he's going to the Dark Continent to get his own Nanika@@adamentcondition3002
I genuinely believed this since i heard the "Illumi is actually Hisoka theory." Hisoka is Illumi and Illumi is Hisoka.

Damn togashi really creates excellent characters, illumi is such an intriguing character and behind his mask he could be hiding the fact that bungee guy has the properties of both rubber and gum.
"If any character in the series has performed a self-lobotomy, it's Illumi."
God, I love this line so much.
At this point, Togashi should just appoint you to finish the manga on his behalf
Indeed 😂
On God
I think this is why Kalluto joined the troupe. If he could convince Chrollo to take Illumi's hatsu, which would turn it off
Illumi also bargained in the hunter exam against Killua that if he quits he would spare Gon. So although I could see a pseudo self manipulation happening, particularly because psychopaths are known to push needles inside them, this might not exactly be the case.
I’ve always wondered why Illumis ability is so much better then Shalnarks. He doesn’t need a remote controller and he can manipulate so many at once.
So it’s not that one above other they just a polar opposite in the way how they use manipulation on people
@@knightcommander5694no illumi’s puppets can become just as advanced as shalnarks if he inserts more needles

You cant judge them by peaceful first world standards when evil gods possess people and everyone has superpowers, many using them maliciously
Gon's Aunt Mito is actually loving, i think. I think the issue is how he dates other older woman though.
@0:24 Liam : "He's probably the purest manipulator in HxH, Rarely if ever splashes into other affinities"
I agree with the fact that his mastery of manipulation is the greatest we've seen so far.
Even if Aura and Nen dont mean to mean different things her,e
this seems important. MAybe Emission isnt always needed to keep the Strength/Potency of something not touching your Body anymore?

Okay, fine, I'll watch HunterXHunter again...
Did Killua just take that toaster... That's the darkest joke I've seen in a while lol
Illumi and Hisoka both have the ability to change appearances. They probably are each other rn
Togashi should hire this guy as a creative consultant. I dare say other than Togashi himself no one understands his work better than him.
How to help Kurapika get the rest of the eyes:
"Hey, Illumi, the 4th prince says he wants to do Killua"
Also, the idea that Illumi broke the needle he put in his own head and is now potentially stronger for it, is so amazing. It mirrors how Hisoka also got stronger. And to see them both level up reminds me of Gon and Killua breaking their respective mental ceilings to achieve new heights in the ant arc. Hopefully we get to see a new and improved Illumi in action.
8:46 the "Reallumi" if you will...
I'm screaming right now. Finally, some recognition. Been a fan since 99, episode 30
context?
I really hope someday we get to see illumis true and full power. I’d kill to see a actual battle between him and a equal opponent
Illumi might have multiple personalities that have different goals and he keeps them in check by manipulating himself
That would actually make sense if Illumi ended up being a parallel to Sensui in that way
7:05 Don’t lie to us Liam, we KNOW hisoka said something other than “kill” 💀
Illumi desiring a power like Nanika's could be why he is on the voyage to the dark continent.
I was so into the theory of Illumi being Isoka in disguise, I like to especulate more but damn man, with so many legends of mangaka dying in the recent past years I'm more terrified than ever of hunter x hunter being totally unfinished
If it happens, I believe Togashi will pass his pen to Liam.
1 thing to note about the “Illumi threatening Hisoka” scene
In Japanese, the word usage Hisoka used AND his hand gesture suggested Hisoka wanted to…. bed Killua as well
That's understandable reaction then
@@Archontasilfor real
@legacy yeah I immediately caught that, first time I watched that episode. That ecchi hand gesture was undeniable. HXH characters really love playing mind games. And Togashi enjoys playing mind games on us readers, as well. One of the 3 main reasons why HE IS my *_mangaka God._*
I also heard Hisoka did it to so Illuma would be pissed and let out a lot of nen - just enough nen that Killua would be alerted. He didn't want Killua caught as he revealed later.
Hunting is the the same as courting for Hisoka and fighting is akin to intercouse. Sometimes we forget how twisted he actually is
There’s no real evidence to suggest Hisoka would kill-murder kalluto if he is in disguise as illumi… kinda seems more likely he wouldn’t given his response to illumi when he mentions killing Killua..
Illumi took self-control to another level
That guy and hisoka scared tf out of me when I was a child. That's why I refuse to watch HxH on TV when I was a child.
Illumi is a cat boi the look of his facial features.
His eyes, can't convince me otherwise.
@12:29 liam: ", Although I would say that if Hisoka were Illumi then it would be more than likely that Kalluto would already be de*d after being left alone with him"
From Hisoka's perspective, it'd be a waste to end Kalluto now.
Hey Liam, I love these videos so I've wondered if the video about the other HxH power system from the iceberg will ever come out?
I have a feeling the only category he doesn’t dip into is transmutation due to how much aura it would cost him and because it doesn’t match his abilities very well.
he is just my favorite character from the whole serie!!!
If illumi is self manipulating that's genuis on so many levels but the fact he can't be manipulated is the best insurance he could ever want or need as an assassin bit it's not like he needs the insurance anyways
Quick correction. When Hisoka asks Illumi if he can "Do" Killua, prompting Illumi's enraged response, he didnt mean "Kill,"
He did the Japanese hand-gesture for sex when he said the word "do."
Yeah... lmfao.

Your hunter hunter theories are one of the very few video notifications I leave on/drop whatever I'm doing to watch.
I love you man. Keep it up!

I want to ask. There are buttons on both sides of Illumi's shirt, which resemble his needles, a lot. Could it that maybe the proof that he's indeed needle himself for a purpose?
Illumi having oldest child syndrome makes so much sense. I’ve never really got hostile vibes off him.
Nice, a video on my favorite Zoldyck family member.
Yeah, all what Hisoka meant was to "kill" Killua and not something else @6:09 💀
that itachi arc. we need it
Imagine how ironic and pathetic it would be if Illumi wanted Alluka's power so he could use it to make Killua really love him.
He's probably aboard the black whale to try and get to the Dark Continent, that way he can gain the power he wanted from Alluka/Nanika.
Like what if pap latched on to illumi when alluka removed it from gon (if that's what happened after all).... It's a theory!!!
I appreciate these HxH videos so much
Wow, Killua popping a toaster bath to charge up was hilarious
Zaza sacrificed her beauty to become extra tough. She ripped her tail off. I don't think she manipulated herself, I think she sacrificed for power like gon did.
You're right. I caught that, too. I wonder why he missed that detail in his video. 🤔
He's been needling himself from the Hunter examinations, distorting his face.
0:58 I laughed
Illumi during election arc: throwning needles at anyone and everyone without a care who he runs into. sending an army after his brother aka target.
Illumi on black whale: Id like a room with a shower.
Yeah im pretty sure its hisoka as illumi
Already debunked lol
@Edogawa199X i mean NOW. that comment was 8 months ago gang. And illumi still hasnt done anything, it may not be hisoka but it still might be illumi. My point was he is on the black whale with a huge supply of needle victims and hes not doing shit despite how quickly he cornered his siblings and killed the dons. Its off.
I've been speculating on his personality shift in later chapters for a while. I can't believe I never considered him using a needle on himself 🤯 this is definitely one of my favorite theories I've seen about him
6:57
Actually it was more like this
Hisoka: 🤡👉👌
Illumi: 💀💀💀
3:05 skip ad
There's literally a skip ahead button to get past the ad..
This feels like a good explanation for Kalluto saying “I want to get my brother back”
Liam is doing all the heavy lifting for togashi keeping this series alive he should cut him a check
I'm thinking that Illumi is Hisoka, and the Hisoka there is probably Illumi in disguise.
4:00 Respect for Togashi's homage to Dragonball Z. RIP Akira Toriyama.
I'd love this theory because this would make Hisoka and Illumi being friends make much more sense and sweet (albeit a twisted way but still sweet)
Carry the HxH fandom, NewWorldReview
I feel like Hisoka could have gotten around auto pilot tbh
otherwise auto pilot could have been something Chrollo used to quickly get rid of him
This is a great theory!
So Illumi pulled a revolver ocelot
We need a rundown of all manga content from the end of the anime (at least I do need some things explaining)
Boku is not only for children. Usually the "I" is used with gender and boku is the most standard in that sense (for males of course).
