Anyone reading this with similar back issues (disk herniation in L4-L5 and L5-S1) keep working at it. The adjustments from a chiropractor make it less painful to excersize and strengthening the core is key. I've started taking supplements to promote disk health which I believe have also helped. It's been 7 months for me since my injury so it takes time and PAITENCE but don't give up! Every morning do your excersizes even if they hurt, stay active and don't let depression drag you down because it will try. Take 15 minutes every hour and just walk as much as you can, try to stretch out and don't let your back get stiff. Stay hydrated! That's one change I've made in the last month that has helped a ton.
I hope someone gets something out of this comment. Good luck yall and don't give up

@@neihgnot8320 stretches that worked well for me and that my physical therapist told me to do are simple yoga stretches, I'll post some links in a separate response.
Excersizes that seemed to help the most were planks, side planks, (these took time to build up to) push ups, lunges, squats and walking as far as I could every day. The big thing is to pay close attention to your body and have complete control during the excersizes so you don't make the problem worse by poor posture which is what I did in the beginning.
Surgery is an absolute last resort.. I would suggest finding a good chiropractor who will coordinate with a good physical therapist to instruct you on exactly how to do these excersizes.
Chiropractor will make the pain manageable while a physical therapist will help you build up the support your spine needs to let the disks heal. If you can only afford one (I could only afford one most of the time) I personally advise the physical therapist.

These UA-cam videos are a major help to all of us who have ongoing back problems.
Especially with SCIATICA which at best is very difficult to deal with and requires TIME
to heal . A dedicated EXERCISE REGIME is essential . Good food and supplements .
Maintaining a healthy spine position & building up CORE STRENGTH is vital.
You must stay positive and believe in yourself - that you WILL GET BETTER.

BEST thing to do is get in with a physical therapist that understands body bio-mechanics and IMBALANCE issues. My hips were so tight I was literally tearing apart my new S-1 and L-5 fusion just by merely walking because of my are hips so tight. I would twist at the L-5 area when I walked. I got that corrected via PT and the leg pain caused by the L-5 twisting vanished over 3-4 weeks.

Hello from Romania! I did an MRI and the diagnoses are these: Posterior disc protrusion at the L5-S1 level, ACCENTUATED AT THE PRE- AND INTRA-FORAMINAL LEVEL ON THE LEFT SIDE, NARROWING THE CONJUGATION OPENING AND CAUSING RADICULAR CONFLICT WITH THE S1 ROOT EMERGING FROM THE BILATERAL DURAL SAC, MORE PROMINENT ON THE LEFT SIDE. In conclusion, it is noted: Posterior disc protrusions at the L2-L3, L3-L4, L4-L5, and L5-S1 levels.
I dit at the hospital, and the exercises were done in a cage: the first one involved lying on my back with one knee bent, while with the left leg, I pedaled a bicycle using a pulley and a 2 kg weight. The second exercise also used the pulley, with the same weight, but this time the right knee was bent, and the left leg was raised to the level of the right knee and then lowered. I felt better, but I don't know what exercises to do at home. Please help me!!! Thx !!!

@@freestylebully4849 Yes, mine is the same - no leg pain either. Same type of problem with a herniated disc and the reason I found this video for exercises. I was getting really bad pinching in the lower back, which was very painful and debilitating to the point I couldn't even walk for a few minutes. This has now stopped as a result of the first exercise in this video. I wouldn't recommend doing sit ups or twisting type exercises, as it will just aggravate the injury more. I also wouldn't recommend the other exercises in this video though, as I personally found they aggravated my hips, but that's just my personal experience with them. I was doing lots of sit ups to keep really fit and I think this was what made it really bad. So, the arching back extension as mentioned, seems to be the best for this type of injury. As my disks are worn it won't completely heal, but I can now manage the pain. Hope this helps.

Then on Friday just gone I was picking the smallest item up and it went again leaving me more a less unable to move over the weekend as I go all crooked and lean to the left(antalgic posture).

    I got some MRI Results:
Physiologic lordosis of the lumbar spine. Normal signal of the vertebrae and discs with the exception for
desiccation of the disc L5/S1. Mild disc height loss at L5/S1. Small anular tear at the disc L5/S1. At the L5/S1 level there
is a left paracentral disc herniation leading to comression of the left S1 nerve root in the lateral recess. Normal width of the
lumbar spinal canal. No evidence for recent or remote vertebral fractures. No significant facet joint arthropathic change visible.
What if the disc herniation is pressing on the S1 nerve (L5-S1). I can't stand on my left tip toes but I can on my right side. I also walk with a slight limp on my left side. All the pain associated with it from 2 months ago is gone. Just this weakness is happening. getting the testing and seeing the doctor is becoming a very lengthy process. Thinking of doing an EMG.
I have started to do these exercises. I am trying to avoid surgery within reason.

For the Piriformis stretch, what is your recommendation for obese patients/clients who cannot reach far enough to get their hands behind the hamstrings/around the knees to perform the stretches performed on the table? Simply to do only the seated stretches?
Also, for all of the exercises/stretches demonstrated in this video which involve using the shoulders, if the patient/client has bilateral shoulder pain and limited ROM rendering those exercises/stretches very difficult or even impossible, what would be your recommendations for alternative exercises/stretches?

For the piriformis stretch , I use a belt , bath towel, or resistance instead of reaching with my hands. The seated ones are very painful for me at the moment so I find laying down much more comfortable. As for shoulder pain with the press ups , face a wall perpendicular and put both elbows on the wall. Then slowly dip your stomach toward the wall relaxing your lower back , almost letting it sink into the wall until you find a good stretch and not pain. Hold that for about 3-5 seconds for about 5-10 repetitions. Learned that one in PT and it is nice for me as I’m someone who’s had shoulder surgeries. Hoped that help !

These are the same symptoms that I have equally on both sides. Had l4/l5 fusion a year and a half ago but never fully healed. Original problem is gone but had these new symptoms progress. Started having problems urinating before surgery and after surgery. I think it started when they put me on pain meds but it’s gotten worse. Just started physical therapy and I’m gonna do these at home also. If this don’t work, they’re gonna fuse l5/S1, like they were going to originally but insurance company didn’t agree to it at the time. Now gonna have to do surgery all over again. Makes you wonder why even have insurance. I’d still be working if they would’ve done right the first time.
