This week we have stories about a new Tamron 28-300mm Full Frame lens for Sony E mount cameras. Canon filed some patents for what could be some really sweet zoom lens that I hope are true. And have you ever wondered what $5 MILLION or so worth of camera gear looks like? This is YOUR Photo News Fix.

An RF 200-500mm f4 would be the dream wildlife lens for me. Chuck in the internal 1.4x extender that the EF 200-400mm f4 had, and that would be 👌🏼
You read my mind...
That would make it much bigger and heavier than a 600 prime
This is what I've been waiting for. I'll sell a kidney for it.
@@JojoJogetwith the weight reductions Canon made to the RF 400mm f2.8 and RF 600 f4, I’m sure they could make it at least equal to the EF 200-400mm f4.
It’s been rumored for years at this point, which feels like an overall accurate summary of Canon right now. The R5ii would be fantastic for wildlife with glass options, but we don’t have them. Some day, maybe, rumors say they’re working on it, just like the mythical do-it-all teleconverter, check back in a few years… That’s Canon.
R3 and a R5 Mark II, 400mm 2.8, 100-300mm 2.8, 135mm F1.8, and 28-70 f2
Almost the same for me, but I'll go for the R1 when I have the chance
Dito here. I can only dream!!!
Yep switch that R3 to an R1 for me too. The R3 is nice but is hungry for more processing power. That coprocessor was the missing link which feeds all the other benefits. Focus down to smaller faces, faster, more decisive, action tracking. Translation modules in Lightroom when you want to keep the Canon magic but avoid those days when the file overloads cause lockups.
Last but not least the layered options AF-on button in the R1 offers more control where it is needed. Hopefully that includes a way to kill the frame flare just before the shutter goes off. Oh yeah, and the priceless half second before I complete the shutter when too many of my pictures get lost.
Now imagine carrying that for a whole day.
GL.
That’s insane
100-300 f4 would be an awesome lens to pair with 24-105 f4!
f2.8 70-200 and a 1.4 extender.
@@WeeBurnip-lz3frnot compatible with the 70-200mm.
@@paul4424 it is with the EF.
@@WeeBurnip-lz3fr ef to rf + an extender + the lens is alot of components
@@WeeBurnip-lz3fr Dumb loss in focus control and/quality unless you buy and overpriced extender.
I really hope that 300-600 f2.8-4.5 makes it to market. IMO that's even better than the 200-500 F4 we've been waiting years for. Perfect wildlife lens
what's your guess on the price of it?
@@victorcsiszar considering the ef 200-400 f4 is a $11k lens, I wouldn't expect this to be anything less than $12k, maybe even a bit more since it's a zoom
6:20 L mount lenses fit on canon RF? LOL! someone missed that when it was edited.
woopsie, meant to say "L" lenses
Well it could be Jared is leaking Canon is joining the L mount alliance (alliance, alliance)...
@@troypast3589😂😂😂
*** oops missed the clarification
Cheers
Canon L lenses are a category of professional lenses, not a mount type. Canon has EF mount, M Mount and RF mount in their line, as well as the EF-S, and RF-S for APSC sensors.
L-mounts are produced by other companies.
@@SilenceNate bruhhhh, you fr tho? 😂
Jared for your next big give away - a 5 min grab what you can from that Olympic room? Hope Ken got a chance to be one of the 40 that got to use the R1. A flagship that only shoots Jpeg is about as close to his dream camera he will ever get.
@@troypast3589 Yeah Ken's review might be interesting. Honestly though, with the short amount of time they give these people it's got to be hard for them to give good review. Even with the short exposures, though, you do get a sense of the design direction Canon is going.
I’ll take an R5 mkII, R1, 15-35 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8, and 600 f4 😍
Bodies - R1 and R5mkii
Glass - 28-70 f2, 85 f1.2, 100-300 f2.8, 15-35 f2.8
If I had a shot at the canon gear room I’d be taking home the R1 and R5II, and the 400 f2.8, 600 f4, 100-300 2.8 and a 24-105 f2.8
Sadly, the optimal shoping list would be to pick the two most expensive bodies and the four most expensive lenses. Then, when you get home and decide you really don't need all of those insanely expensive and insanely big long lenses, sell them and get a nice 70-200 F2.8 and all the fixed focal length ones.
HA EXACTLY what I thought too !
Would hope Canon would release the RF 200-500 f4 replacement of the EF 200-400 f4 before starting rumors of even more lenses. But here we are in Q3 of 2024 without any recent rumors about the RF 200-500.
I’d love to see a 200-500 too but personally I think a large aperture 300-600 will be more useful for most sports and wildlife photographers who shoot in low light conditions.
Imagine how small a 50mm f2.8 prime vs a 24-70 f2.8 zoom then extrapolate it with a 600mm prime
An R5mii with a RF24-105f2.8, RF100-300f2.8, RF28-70f2 and RF135f1.8
That'd be very unwise, just go for all the big zooms which are worth in the +10,000 range. Just resell them afterwards if you don't need them. 🙂
Bodies - R5ii x2
Glass - 28-70 f2, 85 f1.2, 100-300 f2.8, 15-35 f2.8
Yes! This would be almost ideal.
X2
Absolutely
Then I would better buy a Can Am Spyder.
Same 😂
That’s store room sweep would be interesting 🥹 r5mkii r3 bodies. 100-300 f2.8, 600 f4, 15-35mm f2.8, then tied between either 50/85 f1.2
Sheesh 😂🔥
NAS storage is very useful and important in my everyday usage.
R3, R5mii, RF 28-70 f2, RF 85 1.2, RF 70-200 2.8, RF 400 2.8
Is this your line up?
R3 and R5 II camera bodies, if there was something like the Sigma 60-600 sport, that would be one. Then I'd take a wide prime, 16mm 1.8 or 1.4 if that's an option. Followed by the 28-70 f2, and the 400 2.8. The 100-300 would be another with extender 1.4. Thanks for all the tough love Jared!
Thanks
Have you seen the British tennis player shouting at the photographer in the olympics 😂😂
Canon needs a competitor for the 150-600 type of lenses. I switched from Nikon to canon and not having a lens that’s cheap and in that focal range sucks. Edit ; I’m aware of the 100-500 it is extremely more expensive than the competitors
they opened the lens mount so i imagine it won't take too long until those lenses will be produced for RF mount
Well I heard from others wanting the 200-800 for Z mount. In particular it is it but even longer (while getting slower but the length is desired by a lot I talked to when being out there taking pictures).
@@marijn17sthey opened the rf-s not rf

Ok, I’m really digging that shirt design
Sports shooter here so two R1 bodies, RF 400mm f/2.8, 100-300 f/2.8, RF 28-70 f/2, RF 15-35mm f/2.8 and the nonstop hope that I never have a need to cover 70 - 100mm and don't have room to zoom with my feet. I would be tempted to go with a 600mm f/4 instead of the 15-35mm though. Having 45 MP and less reach (eg: 300mm on an R5) yields far less image quality than 24 MP and sufficient reach (like across a baseball/softball diamond or from 50 yards away when shooting behind the endline in football or soccer).
Bodies: R3 and R5 MK II. Lens: 100-300mm f2.8 and 24-70mm f2.0.
I'd grab 2 R5, MkII's for sure. Any 4 lenses would be OK - they are all awesome!!
That would be CRAZY if they made either of those two 600mm zooms. I'd be super in favor of a 300-600mm zoom. It would probably replace my 100-500. It will probably be unreasonably expensive though if you look at the 100-300mm lens price.
Definitely grabbing an R5 mkII and gotta take the R1 for a spin if nothing else to see the comparison! I'm going for broke on the lenses, 400 2.8, 100-300 2.8, 85mm 1.2 and the 24-105 2.8
R1 & R1 (I don't do much video these days) 24-70, 70-200, 85 1.2 & 400 2.8, Cover sports and weddings. As much as I'd LOVE to have the 100-300, I don't think it would be a good all arounder, tough to beat the 70-200 as an all around lens.
If Canon makes a 100-300 f4.0 (and doesn't charge more than $2K for it) that would be one of the most popular lenses ever.
C R5M2 and C R3 and C70-200f2.8,C24-70f2.8,C400f2.8,C85f1.2 nice shopping :D
I'd pick the R8 and R5 MkII, RF 24-70 F2.8, RF 35 mm f1.4, RF 70-200 f2.8 and RF 400 f2.8
The R8 would complement my RF 24-105 f4 for light travel. I also own a 100-500 L, a Viltrox 85 mm f1.8 and very old 35 mm f2 which would be alltogether a wonderful setup.
R3 and R5 Mark II, 600mm F4, 1200mm, 28-70 F2, 100-300 F2.8. 1200mm in YNP would be amazing. Tripod/gimble setup would work great!
R1, R5mkii, 600 f4, 100-300 f2.8, 85 f1.2 and 15-35 f2.8…
just got the RF 24-105 f2.8 and loving it
If I've only got them for one day, and it had to be at the Olympics - and (please) not at the Paris Olympics - I would take the following: two R1 bodies for the power, speed, ISO and extra sale-able shots. A trombone style 70-200 f2.8L for the quick intuitive interface, a 100-300 2.8, a 24-70 f2.8 and a 400mm with 1.4x extender. Plus a couple of roller bags to pack for big and small venues.
I wouldn't even hesitate, I would grab 2 R5ii's An 85 1.2, 70-200 2.8, 28-70 f2 and the 100-500... For me that's the dream team. That setup would fill out my current collection of poverty spec Canon gear quite nicely. lol I'll be staring longingly at the Canon refurb page if anyone needs me.
R1•R52 | 24-105 F2.8• 100-300 F2.8 •10-24 F4• 400 F2.8
Hmm, i think I would go 2 R6 Mark II 1 RF 15-35 f2.8, 1 RF 24-70 F2.8, 1 RF 70-200 f2.8 and the rf 50mm f1.2
Would be a good kit for my video production and also for fotos and video on events 👍🏻
Of course r5 mark ii would be tempting but I am happy with two sd cards slots, the mix of different cards just doesn’t work for me. Happy weekend to everyone reading this.
I (would) use two Canon R3 (R1 when available) [using identical cameras makes handling & settings so much easier], a 15-35/2.8, 28-70/2.0 (for portraits), 70-200/2.8, 200-400/4+ext (maybe a 100-300/2.8, with 1.4 & 2.0 extenders - haven't tried that as an alternative to the 200-400/4+ext).
i'd take the R3 and R5 MK2, will also take 24-70, 70-200, 100-300, and a 135mm 1.8
R1 and R5 Mark II, 400mm 2.8, 100-300mm 2.8, 135mm F1.8, and 28-70 f2
R1, R5m2, 15-35 f/2.8, 28-70 f2, 24-105 f2.8, 100-300 f2.8
R1 / R5 Mk2 with RF 600 f/4 , RF 24-105 f/2.8, RF 800mm F11 , RF 100-500 .
Easy. R3 and R5II, 10-20 F/4 and 24-105 F/2.8 on the zoom side, 35 F/1.4 and 135 F/1.8 on primes.
R5 mark ii, R7, RF 600 F4, RF 200-800, 10-20 F4, 28-70 F2
R3 and a R5 Mark II, 28-70 f2 100-300mm f2.8, 135mm f1.8 and a 85 f1.2
R3 and R5 Mark II,15-35mm 2.8, 85mm 1.2, 28-70mm 2.0, 70-200mm 2.8
R1 & R5 MkII with a 600 f/4 and 400 2.8 that would fill out my gear quite well along with a 24-70 F/2.8 and the 10-20 f/4
R1, R5MK II, 800 5.6, 100-300 2.8. and 28-70 2.0 or 24-105 2.8.
For the shopping, do you have a Nikon isle? 😂😂😂

R5II, R1, 28-70 F2, 1200mm F8 (just to show we can photo the MOOOOONNNN), 100 macro and 15-35
I’d take: 2 R5 mark II’s, a 135 1.8, 100-300 f/2.8, 10-20 f/4, and 50 1.2!
Wow, making a choice there would be very tough! As a body one R5 MkII for sure. But second Body? Either R1 or R6 MkII. An R6 MkIII with Features from the R5 MkII would be cool! Or a second R5 MkII.
As Lenses maybe 24 - 105 2.8, 100 - 300 2.8, 600 4 and then maybe 15 - 35 2.8 or some prime ? Don't know!

The tamron 28-300mm reminded me of a great all around lens I had with the same specs but for EF mounts. I also understand Canon hasn't permitted Tamron to do any RF lenses so far, which is sad. I know they can do the crop sensor flavor.
R1 and a R5 mk ||. Since I have a 24-105mm f2.8L and a 70-200mm f2.8L, I’d take an 85mm f1.2L, 100-300mm f2.8L, 400mm f2.8L, and 28-70mm f2.0.

I don't see Canon bringing either lens out based on rumored specs. A 400-600 would probably be deemed too narrow a range so I consider the 300 to 600 more likely, but as a variable f4-5.6/6.3 to keep the size managable. Considering the price of their 100-500, I would be surprised if such a prosumer lens would retail for less than 6k USD. If it does show up as a f2.8-4.5, expect it to be 1.5x as big and expensive as an f4-5.6 version (although I would almost argue it would be worth it!).
A 400-600 f2.8-4.0 seems like an attempt to replace both a 400mm f2.8 and a 600mm F4. That would be an amazing lens, but I can't grasp how it could be cheaper or smaller or lighter than a 400mm f2.8.

0:52 I'm guessing he didn't want to do a 10 minute lecture for an ad spot but technically having one RAID array still isn't total data security.
Secure data is backed up THREE times.
1. Local active storage (NAS).
2. Offline cold storage (cannot be hit with encryption hijacking).
3. Cloud storage/off site storage (in case your house burns down).
Plus remember that if your data isn't stored with the ZFS or BTRFS filesystem then your files are all still susceptible to bitrot (individual bits of data will randomly flip over time and corrupt files, every file needs to be re-written periodically or else it will just become corrupted unreadable data).
"Bitrot" Interesting! Never heard of that before. We've been using RAID + CD/DVD/HDD/SSD + Cloud (since it was available). I cringe at the thought of professional photographers not having at least three sources of backup. Don't learn the hard way!
