  • This celebrated piece, written in 1890, predates the explosion of the tango as a popular dance in the slums of Buenos Aires. Like much of Albéniz’s music, it is important to make links to its dance roots, but do not take as a model the music of Carlos Gardel or Astor Piazzolla; rather, the habanera, with which it shares its characteristic dotted rhythm!
