Hydrogen Peroxide works for me I just Also enjoy the look of the top layer of sand, especially on my cacti and succulents 😊 Also there are many pots like Clay and Terracotta or even thin plastic pots that allow the oxygen to get to the plant other than through the top soil.
I love this video and can’t say this enough, use that chopstick !! know when to water. we all know what ass-u-me means. I’ll be sharing your wisdom again Thanks 😊
I don't get them from my plants, but from my garbage disposer in the sink. I don't use it, but it holds that moisture & breed gnats. I do have plenty of carnivorous plants. They are happy
I keep grit on top of my dirt, but they still are around. I see them going in the sides of the pots too. My plastic pots have holes in the sides of the pot for air and I’ve seen them come out of those. I keep the yellow stickies around all the time. No reason to not have them. I use MICROBE-LIFT BMC Biological Mosquito Control, Liquid Treatment every watering…it seems to really be working well. Thank you for this video!
As a professional over-waterer, I appreciate this info. A little constructive criticism.... the music in the video is a little loud and makes you hard to hear. Any chance of lowering the volume?

😂 I stopped using “that one” a few years ago and have been gnat free since then, it is horrible! Having plants that want to dry out completely before watering also helps.
If the top of the soil is dry, fungus gnats just go in through the bottom holes in the pot. Sand for that reason doesn't work. Hydrogen peroxide didn't work, nor did the Mosquito Bits have much impact. I've had forgotten plants that have dried up completely and there's been heaps of fungus gnats in the cover pot. I've done every last thing on the internet and had no impact other than make life harder, like Vaseline on your pots. Ugh!! Don't do that!! Currently I'm trialing Tanlin drops in my watering containers and it seems to be having an effect. I also spray the inside of cover pots with flyspray (outside of course) and that seems to take care of the adults. By the way, your music is loud enough for people to have to really concentrate on your voice just to hear what you're saying.
I heard yellow traps work best but I have black sticky traps and they still work, so idk how true it really is. May do an experiment and try one of each, just for fun.
Dont take me for an audio expert, but would probably be helpful if you used mono audio for these. Not surr if its an issue in my end, but all your speech is in the left channel
I have questions about mixing mosquito bits, fertilizer or silica at the same watering. Maybe it’d be worth doing a video about? Is it safe to add silica and fertilizer in the same water? I’m thinking of plants that are big feeders but also have a lot of white variegation. Or what about adding mosquito it’s to fertilizer for alocasia, which are massive feeders?
I absolutely love this style of video. You are the Alton Brown of houseplants!
Omg yes! Perfect comparison.

Just found this video. Very timely as I am battling them (at the moment they are winning) now. I will take your advice but I won't love them. Thanks.
Awesome, ok, I'm a believer
Thank you! I love how informative and through this is!

All the good advice, thank you! I especially agree that consistency is key, and you have to do at least a month of treatment.

Another words Gnats are our coaches? LOL! 😆 nice I like it.
Exactly!
The hydrogen peroxide does work for me. Even 1/4 strength in the water works.

The black does still work, but I've found the yellow is much more effective 🤷♀️

@@rversocal8889 thanks for watching!
I was told to use cinnamon. Seems to be working 🤷♀️
