In reality: just use a *truley* sharp knife. No tears. Thank me later ;) The duller your blade the more you rip the onion appart and smushing its cells at the same time. Rather then slicing and cuting it. That reales the chemicals that make your eyes water. Soooo ... use a sharp knife. Anything else is just voodoo ;)
That knife did not look sharp at all, looked like dude was struggling to make the cuts. I would recommend re-doing the video to make your knives look better.

I find that a sharp knife usually keeps me from tearing
I've actually heard about the damp paper towel from a friend and it works with her but when I tried it.....no difference to be honest

definitely, when I use my damascus santoku knife it takes one swift cut.
I think he wanted to show that precisely bcoz not everyone has sharp knives at home 🤔
