    i’ve been on a no clothing buying spree for 2 months and focusing on wearing what’s already in my closet since i have enough clothes for my day-to-day life. i realized that having style isn’t about buying new clothes all the time, but creating outfits with what you have and feels true to you ☺️

      I am on my second (non-consecutive) no-buy year and I was just thinking about that today! 100% agree!

    • @bellarabold263

      Yes! When Lindsey mentioned she was doing a "no buy" i got super inspired. I didn't by anything for nearly 2 months! I totally re-invented pieces in my closet, and realized that investing in "basics" has helped me a lot!

    i think y2k fashion it's not for real people, it can look good on ig on a pretty influencer, but in real life this kind of style looks more like a costume than an outfit

      Amen haha I totally agree with this.

      I was a teenager during y2k and as soon as we left the decade I realized how awful the fashion of it was (as did many of us from that era) but what the new generation is doing with the y2k fashion isn’t what normal people really wore during this time. A lot of what I’m seeing is what celebrity fashion was back then. Like artists and performers, which was even more over the top. But I can’t lie I love some of the new looks and hate others. Balance lol but I also agree with you

    • @happyface3216
      @happyface3216 2 роки тому +25

      @@MsAriella i agree. The true early/mid 2000s fashion is my favorite era, the trendy y2k Pinterest look is too much.

    One of my pet peeves about the micro trends is that people will bash them later on when they go out of style, so I love your idea of focusing on your personal style rather than trends.

  • @666tris
    @666tris 2 роки тому +153

    I think y2k (fast) fashion definitely needs to go but countries without updated trends in the market still have authentic y2k styles and it's actually cute. Influencers like ferchugimenez, kate brock, and several others pulls it off because they actually shop genuine y2k clothes. Y2K looks good when you're not going out of your way to be trendy, rather being true with your style and that goes with other style trends.

  • @sananne3681
    @sananne3681 2 роки тому +283

    When it comes to micro-trends like the big patterns you were mentioning, that's why I think it's better, if you really like the aesthetic, to get like small accessories? Like scrunchies or hair clips that can go with anything and still add that little bit of fun even if the trend dies out eventually?

    • @lindseyrem
      @lindseyrem  2 роки тому +28

      Yes love that idea! I love my funky claw clips

    • @alliewithbooks
      @alliewithbooks 2 роки тому +5

      I feel like if you love a specific print, you won't really care if it goes in and out of style. So buying a shirt or dress or whatever in that print isn't a risk. I think this is good advice for people who don't actually love the print, they just want to be trendy.

    for the y2k coming back, i agree that the bright colours + rhinestones on everything can be a little too much, but i think a y2k look has the potential to be really cute. I love how ruby lyn does it

    I've been digging a certain Y2K thing that I never got to enjoy growing up in CA - preppy long sleeves with collars or stripes and sweaters. The reason they feel Y2K are the particular patterns and colors that themselves seem like 70s throwbacks but are perfectly cropped for low rise jeans. I don't actually wear low rise jeans now but the cut just looks so much better on me than modern crops or other vintage "full length" sweaters.

  • @birdayo
    @birdayo 2 роки тому +31

    Along with a lot of these comments, I do agree that the y2k style is really cute but yeah, I feel like they’ll die out soon again. The rhinestones are a bit too much, but a lot of the silhouettes are really cute so it definitely has tons of potential!

    when 90s first started coming back in i was like 'NO, no way' 90s and fashion in the same sentence?! Then i thought about it remembered kate moss, grunge, minimalism, the supermodel era, etc. and now it's a vibe. Maybe we will feel the same way about y2k 5 years from now. Especially if you look past the diamantes and really bad frosted eyeshadow and stripey highlights in the hair, some of the silhouettes like the low rise hipster flares and the chunky boots were actually kinda cute and I do remember back then the wider the bottom of your silhouette the cooler you were cos it made you look really tiny on top and emphasised your waist. I wouldn't have been caught dead in a tapered trouser or a straight leg even back then, we thought they were absolutely vile. And high waist? Super frumpy mumsy super unstylish school headteacher vibes. Now i dress like that school headteacher and i think it's cute and chic.

  • @seraph3m
    @seraph3m 2 роки тому +25

    how can rhinestones be too much? i absolutely adore them, it’s such a simple way to spruce up an outfit! i was born just as the mcbling era was ending, but the hyper-girliness of it all is so appealing. it also originated in black/latino communities so it’s less of a trend to me and more what my older sister figures were wearing.

    • @khrystala809
      @khrystala809 2 роки тому +2

      i was wondering how so many people can view y2k this negatively in this comment section but your comment made me realize that it might be a class and culture thing. This style didn’t die out in lower middle class black and Latino communities as fast as it did in mainstream media. As someone born and raised in a black/Latino community in NY, I’ve admired the women around me that dressed in this style as a child, so seeing it resurge as an adult and being able to actively wear the style is satisfying a part of my inner child.

    It might just be me, but it seems like a lot of the trends for skirts/bottoms are a reaction to the types of jeans that are in style right now. With so many people struggling to find high waisted or vintage cuts that are flattering (I have really narrow hips to finding anything but skinny/stretch jeans that look good is really difficult), I see a huge resurgence in skirts and cargo pants that can balance out your bottom and top half better.

I guess it's too close to home as I dressed like that in middle school. Plus they have nothing new going for them, I could just wear the same clothes I owned when I was 13 and suddenly would be trendy again.
