My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

@@Chickanic Spoken like a true mechanic! This is how we are, our minds are wired this way. Give us a problem, its like a challenge puzzle, and we will solve it. The customer may not like the result of our findings, but its still fun to work with our hands, wrench on engines.

So I got a simplicity regent it’s older it needs a bearing I fix mowers for fun I’d like to start a shop this year hopefully 🤞🏼but it needs a bearing in the electric PTO clutch I got the bearing but is it supposed slide of easily? Or take some force to get it on the crank because I put some serious force on it and it wouldn’t budge should I sand the crank down to make it slide on?
@@Huntersprojects Assuming you have the proper bearing removal donut, you might wanna heat the race while pulling. As for sanding, not recommended. Designers will go for a slip fit if it is ok to do so. Most of the time at least a slight interference fit is needed to prevent bearing walking. I wouldn't sand/grind anything. Just burnish it before putting the new bearing on.

Just like a friend did roadside tire service for semi's for 25 years, that was one man you didn't squeeze his hand. His grip strength was break all the bones in your hand if he wanted too!

Having done a lot of big truck tire repairs, I understand what you're saying. I drove for 44 years, and changed my own tires when I was at home, and doing the old 2 piece wheels, and tubeless. Hard work, but it helped me stay in fairly good shape.

When I was a boy one of uncles had a small engine repair business. I would help him out from time to time and I was amazed at how busy he was most of the time. Great to see you doing well.

Worked on small engines at a local shop after school in the early 70's, graduated in 1974 started with another shop in 1977 and worked until 1986. Seen some of everything, including the folks that would drag something out of the dump and want you to fix it for five bucks. Changed jobs, went to work for the local forklift factory, and retired three years ago. I still like tinkering on my own stuff, and people still ask me to work on theirs, but nope. I'm retired! LOL!

Thanks again and I'm sure that you are aware that if a person (like myself) only wears one strap on a leaf blower and lets the other side hang it can cause it to stall. Runs fine sitting on the ground runs fine when the boss uses it but with me it cut out. In my defense I don't use mine as much and was constantly picking it up and putting it down so yeah laziness is what it comes down to.

Pro tip. I use water in ultra sonic cleaner. Then put parts in large paint cup with carb cleaner in it . Put cup in ultra sonic . Ultra sonic stays clean, part get clean. Use less carb cleaner and not having to clean ultra sonic for the win

I get guys/gals sometimes bring gear in off the course saying it stopped running and can’t get it running. My first check from experience is check the fuel and hand it back to them and say it’s not solar powered and let them figure it out . 😂Great job on the videos .

Vacation! There's no vacations in small engine business! At least that's what some customers think. Salad good, donuts bad. Or is it the other way around, and Raspberry Vinaigrette is one of my favorite dressings. Enjoyed the video, gives good insight into the 'back office'.

I invested in a flexible bore scope for hand held 2 cycle equipment to quickly look at the cylinder walls through the spark plug hole. I got tired of tearing down machines to find that they had scored cylinders from either dirt ingestion or a fueling problem. Saved myself and the customer a bunch of time and $$$ in the diagnosis. Could even hook it up to a large screen to show the customer or take a quick picture.
Great video, have learned so much watching you. I love keeping my older equipment running.

I just snagged a Shindiawa string trimmer by someone's garbage today put new gas in it cleaned the plug and it runs great!
Your day reminds me of when I was a counterman/Outside sales person for an Electric motor repair shop. Some days we looked for customers, but others we were looking for space to set the "incoming" down. All in the life of a repair shop !

With all the issues with canned fuel could you do a quick vid on mixing your own fuel? It sounds easy but how do you insure proper mixing, what kind of oil? any other additives etc Love your Channel!
Something that makes mixing 2 stroke fuel easy is understanding the metric system . 40ml oil to 1 litre of gas = 25:1 , 25ml oil to 1 litre of gas = 40:1 , 20ml oil to 1 litre gas = 50:1
just get the ready mix bottles for one gal or 2 .5 gals

Great clip you did well to repair all those machines in a day i also do small engines i really enjoy fixing motors something i have always done as a hobby now its a full time job.
I’m thinking about going back to school and starting my own business. I do all the maintenance on my own mowers and there aren’t many places for small engine repair in my area. There’s one in my town and he’s already got more work than he can handle. Spring and summer he’s swamped with motorcycles and that seems to be his specialty. I’d be more interested in mowers, weed trimmers, chainsaws, and snowblowers.
It would be tough to have a shop across the street from a doughnut shop!!!

I had a hot-run issue on a customer's BR600 that took an hour and 15 minutes! It ended up being his coil. In all the years of working on BR600s (I specialize in Stihl repairs, so literally hundreds of them), I've never seen a coil act like that.
Great video and very informative on the inner workings of your shop. If people took care of their equipment just a little bit be a big help to you. Keep the videos coming. Jimmy
If people took better care of their equipment she wouldn't make as much money. They are not a nonprofit organization nor should they be. It's a nice thought though.

@1:33 I just watched your video on hard starting chainsaws where you suggest pulling through the first compression stroke. It was good to see this technique in use, I am looking forward to trying it myself as my Echo saw is a real bear to get started. Thank you for these informative videos!

You said that one item had good compression, but when you saw the scoring in the piston and cylinder you were sure that was the problem. I'm not clear on how this works -- I thought scoring was bad only because it prevented good compression. Maybe you could cover this question some time?

Found your channel in the spring when grass cutting season started and subscribed right away. Your vids got me through the summer and helped me keep all of the mowers and tractor I own maintained. Before I tune-up or repair a 2 cycle engne, the very first thing I do is remove the muffler to see if the piston & rings are burnt. Because it's so easy for someone to use gas with no oil in a 2 cycle engine, which will ruin it.
