Great video. This is the only game engine I've bought in early access. I did feel the price was a bit high, but I bought it anyway and so far I'm really enjoying it. I've been watching yours and others' videos on how to do stuff which is a big help in getting started. I don't find the UI to be any more confusing than say, unity. Most tools take some learning to get a handle on how things work. Maybe I'll start making some videos on it.
*HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SOFTWARE 100% BONZAIIIIIiii* I've only helped the beta testing or development for every single major engine in the last 25 years, and this is the best one for RPGs, I personally believe. Just a small detail.
Good video. Bakin definitely has some work to do on some of the features. But it's still very good for what it is. And they do work to update it pretty regularly. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of this engine.
Your SGB tutorials got me to this channel and this video convinced me to buy rpgdeveloper Bakin. Not to get too sappy but with how helpful and easy to understand your tutorials are, after years of trying out programs and scouring through various help forums and youtube tutorials and just not getting them (seriously I have like 50 hours in each rpgmaker, it was a serious disconnect) , it's the first time I actually feel like I'm making progress that's tangible for once in making the game I want to make, its a very wonderful feeling so thank you!
It's feedback like this that gives me the same feeling, it's so awesome to know I can help someone out, thanks so much for sharing and for letting me know my method works, I'll work hard to continue accessible tutorials for all!
I have used a lot of early access software and have never felt the need to leave a review for any of them, good, bad or ugly - it is early access, I mean it's in the classification itself, its not rocket science - the product is incomplete. Sometimes wonder what goes on in these peoples heads.
You beat me to doing this, so now I don't have to! But then I wouldn't be as "nice" as you!😂 What really infuriates me (not just about Bakin) is that they don't fully seem to understand what "Early Access" actually is! Unfortunately, they ignorantly perhaps expect something released - even as EA - to be the full program, notwithstanding it's provided in this form specifically for public feedback. After spending less than at least a few hours only, I don't think people have ANY business WHATSOEVER reviewing with no constructive criticism. They often have a preconceived idea about the "perfect" game engine when none exists to satisfy everyone's requirements! Bakin has a solid future ahead of it, especially with the updates that they are implementing. While I can't make the game(s) I'd like to in Bakin - especially porting over my SGB games - at least not the way I'd like, that's not going to stop me from using it. (I understand what EA is!) Bakin is certainly superior to SGB in many ways, so it's important to take the time to look at ALL it has to offer, ALL of its features, and try and find alternative ways of doing things that mightn't be doable right now or workarounds (which is what I'm doing with the Layouts and custom menus right now) BEFORE writing any kind of review - unless it also offers a bit of constructive and not destructive criticism.
Do the video! If necessary, wait for more "Not Recommendeds" to come in, but either way, it'd be a lot of fun to hear your feedback. And yes, 20 minutes is now the standard for complex tool review. After 20 minutes you are legally required to write out your thoughts, whether or not you explored the tool thoroughly or asked for help. 😆.... 😭
You remind me. I should go and write a comment. I have reached 130 hours of usage time; there are still a lot of functions I haven't touched. Can't figure out how those with 1 hour or 2 dare give negative comments. People compare Bakin with Unity and UE, which is really unfair and rude. Never have I been working so closely with a developer team like today with Smile Booms. The company is so friendly and modest to accept our suggestions and reports. We are happy witnessing and being a part of the development of Bakin.
At 11:42 where the complaint was about the yen symbol, I would think that would be a bigger deal? From what I understood from both the text and the video that means you could copy and paste a directory into the the Bakin UI but any folder paths copied from the engine could not then be used in explorer? Or am I missing something substantial?
Steam has a discussions section where bugs can be reported, or features can be requested. What I don't get is why people don't bother to try and get their issue resolved there before leaving a negative review.
A year after this video is really interesting. DLC is automatically installed now. Textures are easy to use. No japanese in the english version. It's gone from good to great and getting better.
Bakin is still in early access, so there is functionality that is crucial to some subgenres of game that still needs consideration. MV is still valid for all of the reasons I list in this video, especially if you wish to primarily make a 2d game. But a true comparison video will come later - right now it would be too easily pushed out of date with the frequency of Bakins updates during EA.
I instantly guessed who that one specific negative reviewer was so I had to take a look. Sure enough, it was him lol. EVERY. SINGLE. ENGINE. they do this to, it's craziness.
Learning styles can differ a lot, so I think the best thing to do is look at tutorials to see if it would be easy to grasp. The engine is aimed at those who don't want to code or choose not to - it doesn't require any programming knowledge at all. However, it does allow you to script: so, if you become better at coding, you may be able to make your own plugins at some point. There are a number of tutorial makers on YT (including me 😀) that can help you get started; if you find that videos help you learn, I would try watching different content creators and see if any click. And then you can decide if the engine can do what you might need!
@@AmalgamAsh I've gathered it's similar to RPG maker which I used many years ago then I tried to learn scripting and gave up lol would you recommend trying RPG maker again over bakin. Bakin appeals to me due to it being 3d the ability to jump is there which I see as a very valuable assets as my character would be able to jump I'm looking at trying to make a funny RPG similar style would be south park stick of truth would RPG maker be better due to the amount of availble assets?
all rpg trmplate engines share common features, it is true. However, the workflow and philosophy behind many of then, as well as niche and major features, can be quite different. For this reason there isn't a best engine, until you understand the pros and cons that each will bring your specific project. I'd definitely recommend watching content, especially tutorials, to see if it's as easily understood - because it does share a lot of building concept with rm. For what it's worth, bakin takes any 3d model as long as it's an fbx or obj format, so any 3d asset out there is a bakin asset.
I have absolute confidence in the devs for this engine for a good many reasons. You can join the official Discord linked in the description f you'd like to see what the community has been up to, and what kind of perception others have about communication the devs have given.
As a 3D artist the level of unwillingness to find a solution to their problem kinda showcases that why would never be able to make a game to begin with. Learning an engine, any engine for any purpose is a steep learning curve. The only real solution is to find to find and ask for help And it's weird to blame the engine itself if the reason you're hitting a brick wall has to do with inexperience and not actual performance issues.
bakin is really cool and totally usable. Engines like rpg paper maker and rpg in a box are way worse an been out for a long time. some bugs are expected and there a work arounds in most cases. im really looking forward to the future of bakin.
I'm sorry to hear your experience wasn't positive! What sorts of features would you like to see come to RPG in a Box? Version 1.0 is just the beginning and my end goal is for everyone to be able to make the game they want with it, so I'd love to get some additional feedback on the engine from you! There are a lot of cool new things still in store for RPG in a Box, and I'm of course continually improving and expanding upon the core features over time to make sure everyone can bring their stories and ideas to life through it! If I'm not mistaken, I believe you're already a part of the Discord community, but if not I'd love to have you come join and say hello! It's a very friendly and welcoming server, with lots of cool game projects currently in progress and many people willing to help out with questions about using the engine, anything from art and design to advanced scripting. Thanks so much! 😄👍
@@rpginabox Its been a while :D I had no issues with the features of rpgiab. Manipulating a variable every 5 seconds made the game lag every five seconds.
