"this is the bare minimum for a vrchat avatar"
gotcha! All vrchat avatars MUST be caked up AF.
Naturally XD
You joke, but no this is actually a rule.
finna go crazy with the proportions 😏
As someone new to VRchat who's enchanted by the idea of having an avatar of my own design from the ground up, no matter how low quality, this is exactly the first stepping stone I needed to start understanding what the process is gonna look like.
I still have almost literally everything to learn, but thanks to you, it's only ALMOST, now.
Thanks so much!
No problem that's the goal I'm glad I could help a bit 😁
Thanks, iv used this to create my first abomination, The "Nerdion" @@Rabbi32
Short, sweet, to the point, no unnecessary monotone explanations that span over five minutes, 11/10 video.
thanks so much im glad i could help
I recently starting making avatars (mostly for myself until I get better) but thank you so much this video helped a lot. Not only was it educational but I kept cracking up as I followed along thank you so much
Np that's my goal glad I could make it funny bc this video I wanted to be more serious but also have comedy took way too long to edit XD
This was straight and to-the-point enough that I was able to adjust it to export a character creator 4 model directly to VRChat with minimal issues. My ADHD brain thanks you xD

this has unironically been the best blender tutorial i have found
Pog glad I could help
Omg, thank you so much for just telling the controls and doing a very quick visual example. I've been wanting to start creating VRChat models for myslef, but every Blender tutorial was like, 35 minutes and I couldn't sit through it. They are the lecture, you are my notes. You are a saint, my ADHD thanks you.
Np I hate lectures too
Thank youuuu
This tutorial is perfect for getting to the point of the bigger picture, the bare minimum needed for each step. If I need something more advanced I'll look those things up individually later, I just wanted a basic idea of the end result at least!
as someone who is just beginning to learn how to make avatars and has scrolled through tons of tutorials, this helped a LOT so thank you :D
Np glad I could help 😁
This is the best tutorial I found on making avatars from scratch! Really easy and great way and also very entertaining and hilarious. Great job!
Thx glad I could help
Yknow, as much as i've been looking left and right for a tutorial that'll let my tiny lil brain comprehend and cooperate this was a good one. Thank you.
Thx so much also don't be afraid to ask questions commenting also helps this channel
Because of your help i made my favorite transformers (who happen to be controversial/hated to the point that even 10+ years nobody made 3D models of) and i never could feel more complete.
Skids, Mudflap, Wheelie, Brains, Que and Mohawk live again!
AHH HELL YEAH WHEELIE!
Honestly I sorta liked Wheelie, but I’ve only seen him in the original Gen One cartoon.
I've been occasionally going back and forth on VRchat and have tried searching up videos and articles that haven't explained the process well but THIS was not only short and sweet but I honestly give you my biggest appreciation for this video! I'll definitely be using the video and the video urls for the rigging and finally make an avatar of my own :) Big props!
Nice I'm happy I can help
Awesome video, don’t even have VR but enjoyed your jokes and explanation anyways. You deserve way more recognition bro 👍
Thx so much fam I'm working on that rn gotta get more videos out ya know 😁
Also, ya can play vr chat on laptop too! :D

@@YagamoReba thank you so much i do try to make it understandable
great video dude! super informative and helpful! i do have a couple questions tho: how do i add/make textures for a model? are the steps very different to make an avatar using an already existing model, like do i need to rework the rig or weight paint it? how hard is it to make a four legged avatar?
I have not personally made a 4 legged avatar but I have seen spider avatars and they could be cool and as for using an existing model if u move the vertices it's best practice to redo the weight paint and the rig can easily be shifted to fit the changes. Also adding textures there is something called texture painting what u do is unwrap the model and u can paint right on the model
I'm really tried so I'll look at this again in the morning to see if I was confusing at all lol 😆
@@Rabbi32 that's alright, thank you so much! Your videos are a ton of help and super entertaining to boot! Keep up the great work

I’m curious, can you import models and use them in VR Chat?
What exactly do u mean by that? Like models of the web if so then ye
Any model. Or perhaps maybe Models extracted from FrostyEditor, which I extracted some models from PvZ BFN.

Great tutorial tho at least I'm having fun while watching it
Ye lol I think I spent an hour on the hands I just was covering the basics there's a lot more technical stuff I could get into but then people wouldn't try u know and the video would be 30 mins long lol 🤣. gl wt ur avatar and glad u had fun watching 👍
Before I start trying to build an avatar, I have a few questions:
What is the best way to make an avatar for Quest 2 users
How can you create physics for hair and stuff
Do you have to be a certain level of trust to upload on VRChat?
Thanks!
Making an avi for quest is the same as PC except u switch to the android build mode when u are going to upload it. The physics for hair is controlled using bones in the mesh and applying a physbone component in unity to give it the jiggle. And I believe you have to be a user trust rank to upload avatars. Hope this helped and gl 😁
@@Rabbi32 thank you! I’m a Mac user so I am just trying to gather references and I appreciate the quick response!😁 Have a great day!
@@GachaRobloxianAndrew np also should be the same on Mac too. So u shouldn't have to worry too much about that.

Um Actually... XD
AFTER DAYS I FINNALY GOT INTO BLENDEEEEERRR!!!!!1!!!!11
if your lazy to rig your rig rig it on mixamo if the arm is to close to torso you should make it a A POSE or T POSE
Yep
keep in mind the outline doubles polys so if you have 10k polys the outline would make it 20k in total
Ye true but it's worth
@@Rabbi32 All hail the smegsy outline XD
@@Losjo4093 amen XD
I have a problem, when I upload my avatar to Unity with bones it becomes transparent, without bones its no longer transparent and I don't know why I mess with materials it's clearly not that I'm not too sure what to do
I could be that the materials weren't baked which my video doesn't cover I just slapped a color on it. Could also be that for some reason the mesh isn't being exported wt the rig tbh I haven't had this problem myself so I am not entirely sure what is causing it.
I'm making shark dog. If you ever see a shark dog with googly eyes wandering around it's probably me. Or someone who stole my avatar.
Honestly I don't care at this point if people steal my stuff on there, it happens so often it's practically like breathing.
😁 real! if i see u on ill say hi
Thanks! This has helped me out more than you know!
Np I'm glad I could help 😁 this video has far exceeded my expectations and I'm glad I could help so many people

Great video! and if you don't mind, can you tell me what kind of model you used for your avatar. :)

@@Rabbi32 Thank you so much!
oh my lawd you have explaned to me how to do this tysm
When im sculpting my reference picture disappears and turns into a solid object with no reference, how can i prevent this happening
Do you know how to make a hoodie with brown hair on that character ?
Ye just copy the body and arms expand them a bit and then solidify modifier on it and u have the hoodie for the hair that gets complicated so I would search a tutorial on doing anime hair in blender there are a few different ways of doing it
Yeah I just wanted a avatar with a “W” mouth with dot eyes with my hair and hoodie. it may be not that much but I love how my character as it is because it reminds of myself . Also can you do mouths and glasses
11/10 would watch again
Thx fam means alot
Added everything right just for some reason whenever I try and change the view point to where you will see you in the character I can't see the little sphere
Try checking that gizmos is on. it would be in the upper right corner of the viewport window.
I just wanted to say thank you
Np
funny as always B) and entertaining, SORRY I MENT VERY ENTERTAINING
You completely forgot to specify the file type you're meant to export and there's only a split second for people to notice its FBX.. this can cause a lot of confusion because the file type is very important.
Lol ye u can see where I was saying it and I just clipped it out lol
Thx for pointing that out lol noone in a whole year told me that XD never noticed
The vrc avatar descriptor component doesnt show up for me...
Try opening a new project the sdk might not of imported
Now somthing is wrong not about this tutorial but when I join a server I see only white floating avatars with just their hands and they are all on mute.. was I banned? Is my internet gone?
U don't have their avi's shown
im very sorry for commenting a question, but is there a way to fix the avi being stuck in a T-pose? i’ve followed the steps given yet the avatar is/has been stuck in the default pose, any tips?
that sounds like something to do wt the rig either the animations arent connected to the avatar descriptor, the rig isnt weight painted correctly, or the rig wasnt imported and set-up properly I would check those 3 things and if they are all good. Then, ill be honest after that i have no clue i would try it all in a new unity project.
@@Rabbi32 i see, ill try that out later then- thank you so much man ^^

@@Rabbi32 thank you so much
this feels like to much to ask but
how to paint
@@Waffter yes its called texture painting I didn't go over it in this video bc I just wanted to get people in the door and that can be a huge nope moment but just searching how to texture paint can get some great videos
can we get a how to add dynamic bones and toggless pretty pleasee
Ye dynamic bones were replaced a while back wt phys bones and as for toggles I bet I could do a video on these might be a while though
Thanks for the tutorial! It feels like it's moving a little too quickly and i very often needed to rewind and slow down the video to figure out what you were actually saying, but useful nonetheless! I am running into a slight problem though; When uploaded into VRChat itself the avatar is missing its materials (or, well, single material), even though said material seems to work fine in the editor. It doesn't seem to throw any errors, the shader seems to be correctly configured to VRChat/Mobile/StandardLite, and i've spent hours looking for information, but all i can find is to make sure those two things are true. Any ideas?
(edited for formatting, steamdeck onscreen keyboard can be a little janky sometimes and it decided to bug out while typing that)
If you made it own material in blender for the avatar u have to do something called baking it's not as hard as it seems though and there are some great tutorials for it. As for the speed of the tutorial u can thank ADHD for that XD but hope this is helpful for u
@@Rabbi32 I did make a material in blender, although did test it after remaking that material in unity directly using the same textures, so i'm not sure it's that. Either way i'll give it a look, hopefully it'll help shed some light on why it works perfectly in the editor but breaks ingame. Thanks again!
@@stormmk9 wait it works in the editor I mis read
@@stormmk9 I would try reimporting the model too sometimes unity is just being dumb on import
@@Rabbi32I've tried re-importing, and re-exporting from blender multiple times to no effect. The only information i can find on a similar issue is people trying to use unsupported shaders, but that doesn't explain what's going on here either, unless "unsupported shaders" includes unity standard and VRChat's own Standard Lite, neither of which have seemed to work from my testing.
Taking a look at the avatar info ingame, it lists an unusually small download size considering the 2k texture i'm using, so i suspect that somehow the model's being uploaded without the material and texture? but then again that's just my guess, i'm not exactly an expert at this stuff
So i been trying find commission avatar makers but i have no luck im at the point of making my own avatar but the problem idk how
Fiver does commission
And as for not knowing how to that comes wt work I suggest learning the software then attempting it
thanks dawg
God- thank you for this video. I’m trying to start my own VR model (can’t afford to commission and people are iffy).
I have the attention span of a squirrel but your video is straight to the point and the narration kept me focused. Thank you soooo much!
Now that's the goal just something to get started 2 working into other stuff is way easier once the basics are down. Glad I could help
I know this isn't a beginner's blender tutorial but how do you make evrything into one things, do you connect everything to the body or do you connect one limb to the body, and then connect that limb to the next part and so on?
It's the boolean modifier doesn't really matter what part u connect to what part bc in the end when they are all connected you can just rename the obj anyways but if u want I would merge everything to the head or torso
Also yes it is one by one for each obj after it's merged I apply the modifier
I love the Mario 3d world music
u recognized it nice :) hopefully Nintendo doesn't come after me lol
Wait so I can make a vrchat model of the famous nwr 11 from thomas and friends?

Drag and drop it in
welp guess i cant do this- and why isnt there like a search for avatars? im sorry i only just started playing, but my cousin already like did the tutorial, if there even was one, but idk what to do or how to like set an avatar.
There was a search for avatars in VRChat but they kinda ruined it bc it was a mod and they got rid of that but if u see a kewl avatar that u want on someone ask them to clone it then favorite it so u can turn into it later
