Anyone who can’t appreciate firearms made in Russia is a fool..don’t get me wrong I absolutely love my AR setup but I prefer shooting 7.62x39 white box because I started on the ak platforms…but the high velocity at least some or weapons is part of the pro llinsanelg light upgraded 556 , m855 Blair v Lego gun is fun owner even like himsel my tt-33 still spits frozen rope
This SMG is very simple and cheap. It's also very easy to use and very easy to produce. It was made by teenagers and women jn soviet factories, including factories in Leningrad under the siege
Is it true that they shot at the invaders from the factory windows?
Not really, if nazi had direct line of sight to the factory they would render it to ruins with artillery fire. You would probably had to walk about a mile to get from factory to frontline.

The design is pretty brilliant, it's really cheap and easy to make, but unlike the Sten it has a robust and reliable magazine. Makes me think a lot of the American M3A1, another gun which, just like the PPS43, is brilliantly simple and economical, yet doesn't sacrifice performance.

Considering the power of this 7.62x25 round in my Tokarev TT33 pistol, I can imagine that this PPS43 would and could be a devastating SMG.

The AK47 does exist, just rarely ever used in any major wars that laymen would think AK47's were used in. Most were Type 56's or AKM's.
I only learned a few years ago that almost no AK's at all were used in the Korean War, I always thought they were.

For the ppsh.. They copied the series of mp24 and mp34
And for the pps43 , its a steel stock of mp40.. (And its a folding stock like the mp40)
So the submachine guns in soviet army are inspire of series of german MP
But yes .. The nagant revolver is good , and the rifle too :)
And even more! All of our modern guns are inspired by old spanish muskets, because of their option to shoot! They even have absolutely similar perts, like Barrel and Stock! When I found this, I was struck to the core!

Great weapon. The PPS-43 was a simplier war time version of the PPSH-41. Far better than many people think. Very controlable.
Love the russian weapon aesthetic look, very practical looking imo.
when you permanently hungry for years, and under artillery fire everyday, you have very limited stock of every supply you have, and you must do somethink that will help a lot of people end this nightmare and you can do it, well... i think your mind can create really useful things, because you will see all from practical point of view. Simple, but i think its to hard for our modern world to do such things, not exactly weapons but just useful, cheap and reliable things without suffering you know. Conclusion: we all must suffer.

Surrrrrrrre... the most obvious conceal carry you could possibly get for under 10k. Lemme know how that goes for ya...(lol)
In a lot of slow-mo footage of WWII SMGs (forgotten weapons) you can see the bolt hits the back of the gun with quite a lot of force after each shot, in this gun the spring is able to absorb all the energy, I think this is a really good thing for controllability, great engineering indeed.
The travel is short enough, and the receiver long enough on this to be constant recoil, like the MP-40.
I have read somewhere in past research that if the Germans could get their hands on one, they preferred these to the MP-40.
Yeah, they often re-purposed captured PPS-43s and PPSh-41s to fire their ammunition, sometimes they wouldn't even do that, opting to have them straight in 762 Tokarev instead.
They could just use 7.63 Mauser.

Sassy is correct... since 7.62 Tokarev was developed as a hot 7.63 Mauser, the Germans would 7.63 Mauser in captured TT33 pistols (although 7.62 Tokarev ammo is way too hot for the Broomhandle Mauser). I am going to have to research to see if the Mauser ammo would be hot enough for the PPS.
Theoretically it would be a lot easier to make 7.63 Mauser hotter than it would be to convert captured Tokarev guns to 9mm. Theoretically.

This automatic machine is invented by the designer Sudayev in besieged Leningrad. Sudayev has been recognized as the outstanding designer, and his automatic machine the best automatic machine of the Red Army during war. After war he continued to work on the automatic machine and participated in a competition together with Kalashnikov. His project was considered as the most perspective, however he couldn't finish it as he has died in 1946. If it didn't happen, Kalashnikov could proigat and now Sudayev's submachine gun AS-44 would be considered as a legend, but not joint stock company.

Чуваки-эксперты, в данном ППС 43 все детали штампованные. Ни каких профессиональных навыков для сборки не требуется. Любой рукожоп мог собрать его. Поэтому это оружие лучшее в своём роде.

The Soviet built PPS-43 submachine gun is absolutely wonderful and amazing fire arms.
Someone need to bring 7.62x25 back in fashion. Its the OG PDW rounds.

I agree, however there is something to be said about 5.7x28 and 4.6x30, and those are NATO.
Russia has something they did in the 80s called the "Grach" trials that took place 80s 90s early 2000s.
The 9x18 is slowly being phased out for new 9x19 7N21 +P+ and 7N31 +P+ armor piercing ammo that's being used in the PP2000 PDW and new MP-443 series sidearm as well as the GSh-18
And let's be real, besides very specific applications, a AK74u with a folding stock and short barrel should suffice as a small personal defense weapon all day in my book.

From Poland with love... We, really do great guns, when needed. Please note - polish made "Commie time" firearms are one of best, if not the best on market. In peacetime, with skilled people, resources and proper knowledge - warmachine became new ID and quality. Larry, I strongly belive this SMG was and still is unbeatable regarding cost/ simplicity/ effectivness on a battle field. Still in use, still in private possession (legal). Greatings! Carry on!

Very good stuff and relatively unknown (in the west!) with that legendary WW2 era submachine gun! Soviet weapons were often overlooked but history prooved they were more than a match to their german counterparts... Keep-up with the good work Larry!

The forgotten weapons video where Ian disassembles one of these is great. The design is quite literally genius in it's simplicity and use of stampings.
It's amazing that the bolt handle slows down and comes to a stop just a smidge before slamming into the back of the slot in the receiver. The bolt actually seems to cycle surprisingly smoothly! It's a minor detail but I'm sure that contributes to how controllable this thing is.
7.62x25 , one of my favorite pistol cartridges , honestly it’s a borderline rifle cartridge as well

Leonardo Andres Garcia Pedraza Classic Firearms has them for sale, the stocks are tac welded and they're not full auto. I think they're running around $560 or so.

В принципе почти все его одногодки и он сам дожил на вооружении некоторых стран до начала XXI века. Разве что временный M3 "Маслёнка" и несуразный австралийский ПП системы Оуэна(магазин сверху а-ля пулемёт БРЭН) раньше ушли("маслёнка" в 60-е, а Оуэн ещё и 70-е застал). СТЭНы(не ранние "кошмары водопроводчика", а уже более поздние) в Индии ещё в 90-е использовались во всю, а МP-40 и ППС в то же время и в Европе встречались

From a production cost/time point of view, maybe. It is a pretty good one overall despite its crudity.
I would say it would certainly be in the top 5 with the MP-40, OWEN, M3 a1, Beretta m1938/44 and Suomis KP/31.
If you also look at the production cost and time then yes, without a doubt. It amazes me how much features this rifle and the ppsh41 has. Adjustable front sight, 100/200m rear sight. Excellent quick releasing and inserting magazine. All that and still the cheapest of them all. Compare that to the sten wich has no adjustability, is very uncomfortable and just more worse in every way. Even if you would'nt look at the production costs and just pure shootability and reliability it would probably still be in the top3
I think the Finnish Suomis gun took the honours for best,the MP40 for looks the Sten for cheap,nasty but effective and the US greace gun was very good but i do love the Soviet pepeshas.

Even though mine is the semi-auto version, it's a blast to shoot. My nephew sneered when I first showed him my PPS-43, then after shooting the first mag, he was grinning from ear to ear.

Outstanding! Best slow-motion I've seen so far! That thing stays surprisingly level I thought, looks very controllable. Maybe this takes experience? Seems like something that would sell a lot, at a fair price. Maybe the best thing anyone ever made from seven pounds of sheet steel.

Far from being best SMGs there is in term of accuracy and handling, but this is definitely the best combination of production cost, battlefield efficiency and reliability of all WW2 SMGs. Just check any channel that focused on gun insides- engineering solutions in this gun are jaw drop brilliand. If i recall correctly it only uses 3 springs and 2 pins in the whole construction. And its production cost is less than a half of a ppsh-41.
Production took about half the material of the ppsh-41 (in weight) and less than half the production time: ~2.3hours vs ~7.1hours (with less specialised equipment).

Looked like most of the bolt firing cycles weren't hitting max travel like the "constant recoil" system on the Ultimax 100 where the bolt is stopped by spring pressure and doesn't slam into the back of the receiver or a buffer. I imagine it shot pretty smooth.

Wonderful weapon in it’s simplicity and durability in field conditions. Coming out of water, easily drained and almost automatically functional as it becomes above water in the open bolt firing position. Excellent weapon

If beauty could be found in utility, this is it. I saw Ian disassemble this gun. It's really simple and clever in design, with certain parts doing multiple things. Also it is more of a pressed metal than stamped. Would love to shoot one, and own one or a variant someday.
The PPs 43 is in my eyes the pure essence of a submachine gun. You can't produce a submachine gun in a simpler and function-oriented way. A submachine gun showing the origin of the besieged Leningrad. No grams of "fat" on the gun. And the 7.62 × 25 mm Tokarew M1930 is a remarkably powerful ammunition whose stop effect is not so great. But she does not have to, because a wounded soldier ties up more resources than a dead soldier.

One important thing -- the PPS magazine was a double-feed. That meant more reliable feeding with way less FTFds, especially comparing to double-stack, but single-feed magazines for such SMGs of the same era as MP-38/40; STEN, Thompson and so on.
My father had one in his collection since I was a little kid. Fun to handle and shoot! Unfortunately, during one overseas move in the late '60's (Army) it was confiscated by customs in Central America. Hated to lose that one.

Few days ago shot with Finnish KP/44. By the ear rate of fire on that one is a bit slower. It's a nice gun too and really fun to shoot. I think magazine solution on PPS43 is better, allowing faster mag change. KP/44 was designed to use then plentiful Suomi mags.
To me, this looks kinda like a hybrid between the PPSH and the MP40.
