  • This video demonstrates how to access the side of the carburetor and successfully remove the limiter caps, which will give a wider RPM range, more power, and easier tuning! Hope this video is helpful!

I have one of these, and it’s the worst starting saw I’ve ever owned. I even took it back in to have the carb adjusted. It simply refuses to start cold unless you hold the throttle open with one hand and pull with the other like you’re trying to saw your own leg off.
I have an older Stihl that starts in a pull or two with the choke just like this says it does.
The stihl is heavy enough to hurt holding it (I have medical issues), but this little saw is so hard to start I wish I could use a drill or something to spin it.
I would say it’s either poor design or poor quality control that let mine go this way. I wish Stihl would make a pro saw that’s this light. I don’t like the homeowner grade stuff.

      Hi Ed!
Stihl does have a 151T model, but it’s about $150 more on the sticker and a little bit heavier. They are great saws but I think this one is more powerful when it’s tuned right. Depending on the shop you took it to, they may not have tuned it properly. There is a different tuning process for these saws that is different from a standard carburetor tune. I found a really good video on this site about how to tune the saw according to echo’s specs!

Thanks so much. I got the caps off and the cats back in. There was no clamp on the fuel line at the carburetor. Is that normal?

It would have been nice to see what initial settings are recommended, I think I found that mine was set for around 3 turns low and 1&3/4 hi. this no longer works having a hard time getting it started & running long enough to adjust.
