- On 10th - 11th of May 2024 loco 7029 Clun Castle was out and about on the Great Western Mainling celebrating its record breaking run from 60 years before, and with the same headcode! 1Z48. Simon's Train Adventures was able to see and film the train multiple times and in multiple locations including Oxford, Sonnning Cutting and Twyford and get some spectacular drone footage.
It was excellent to see a true GWR loco working at speed on the Great Western Mainline.
Spectacular video Simon, it's incredible to see a GWR locomotive on home territory.
7029 Clun Castle was purchased by Patrick Whitehouse back in the 60s direct from BR and has been running tours ever since. Believe it or not it's sister loco Pendennis Castle was sold for preservation for Hamersley Iron company in Western Australia! It was under the care of the Pilbara Railway's Historical Society, and they used to run tours with it to Mount Tom Price. But now its back on home soil going to various heritage railways, especially the Didcot railway center.
Keep your steam up Simon.
Take care
Kevig
Thanks for watching. We'll have to look out for Pendennis Castle. Or maybe we saw it when we visited Didcot last year? I can't remember.
Brillaint video! I saw her London Paddington.
Thanks! I hope it was a splendid sight for you too.
