Too many complaints here. We are lucky this gent was nice enough to show us how to make sure WE don't mess up our go at vinyl wrapping. Fast forward is available for those in a rush. Thanks Garage Legacy for uploading this tutorial ;-)
For the past three months I have been learning by trial and error practicing on my car's interior I have learned there are cheap versions of vinyl out there some even have Avery labeling on the back of the wrap. If any of you are thinking about tackling a similar project do yourself a favor and do a lot of resurch first and one last thing pay a little bit more and buy Avery or 3M vynil, you will save yourself a big headache. These guys that do this for a living they have a lot of my respect Happy wrapping
Thanks for this! I've been wanting to do my 350z interior parts for a few years now, but never found anything as detailed. My weekend is set! Good stuff!
First vid ive seen of yours... THANK YOU! We ALL need to be remided that mistakes are par for the course, and it's not the end of the world! Great work man! THE QUALITY of your work is fantastic. The calm yet sure voice realy helps me know I can do this... well done.
I dnno what the complaints are about, listened and watched whilst at work and found that I was informed more about everything that I needed to know. It might of been sped up to 5 mins but you'd of missed certain points and I'd be hoping it would be quicker when doing it myself. Thanks man!
Thanks for this, was thinking of doing a Focus Facia, you made it look easy and your methodical approach and attention to detail has given me confidence to have a go.
Hey man great video. I do a lot of car audio installs and I'm looking to learn how to glass and how to wrap and this video is great. I'm going to buy some vinyl and start trying to wrap pieces that I don't need just for practice. Thanks!
Thanks dude. The vinyl is so cheap so practice practice for the perfect finish! I have a fiberglass vid also - check it out! - How to fibreglass a subwoofer enclosure
Nice demo. I am planning my first attempt at vinyl wrapping soon for a seat cowl. This has really made it look easy. I suspect I will make a hash of it but at £5 for 1.5m x 600mm I reckon I can have a few attempts before I resort to paint!
vinyl is easy to work with if you understand how it works. takes time and practice to get down a technique. i have been working as a vehical wrap installer for about the past 5 months and can tell you i still struggle with big stuff. the smaller stuff like this is much harder to work on then big panels. you have to be patient and remember vinyl is best applied at a temperature of about 150-180 degrees (its like goo) so lay your piece on the item first then heat n stretch. always use heat! heat is more important than a squeegee.
I'm in the middle of trying to apply fabric-backed vinyl to my door panels. Idk if you know the shape on a second gen rx7, but there's a huge curve/peak in it. Not sure if I can really heat and stretch my fabric over it! Any advice??
danieleli1199 A good squeegee is worth it's weight in gold though. Much more effective than using a finger and will yield a tighter adhesion with sharper curves and less airbubbles. Your right though, heat is very important.
+danieleli1199 I heard that you are supposed to heat it and pre-stretch the vinyl before you apply it because once it cools it shrinks and hugs the material a lot more which means less chance of peeling.
Great work dude, as someone who has never wrapped before your video was really helpful, don't worry about all the haters, they just want to know how to wrap a civic in 5 seconds so they can get to their gay parade on time
do you think this would work on the front fairing of a motorcycle? i was thinking of the plain gloss wrap rather than the carbon fibre as im not sure how it would stand up to washing etc.Its not a large area as the lights and windshield take up a lot of it,i was more concerned about the fiddly bits but after watching your video im a bit more confident about that now,Thanks.
Hi Marie-Clair. The vinyl that I have used is not suitable for outside use. BUT you can get some vinyl that can be used. Search UA-cam for bonnet/hood wrapping for ideas.
When your are doing the last 4 corners (outside corners) i thought you where going to do little cuts to the wrap instead you pulled the wrap why is that? oh thanx great vid, now im gonna do or try to do complete door panels and dashboard on a Hummer h2, paint its not and option color matching is just not happening, thanx again!!!!
+Garage Legacy How about removing the trim around the head unit ! I want to vinyl wrapp all the middle side of the interior from the middle console straight up. Color White then Vinyl Wrapp my Steering wheel. Just bought a 2010 V VE Calais Wagon. I know how to do the Middle Panel from under the head unit to the Middle Console but how do i do all around the head unit?? Any tips??
Sage Argento You could try to do it on the car. remember the vinyl is cheap so if it looks crap - rip it off. I dont think you can wrap the steering wheel.
Hey your video was a great help :) do you know if i can use the same amount of heat on a sticker bomb? and how easy is it to remove when i get sick of it?
Apparent Overdose of Car Stuff! I am planning on maybe doing the exact same to a mk4 golf and i will be using a roll of sticker bomb i wont be applying individual stickers. its just the removal process incase i want to sell the car on and if it leaves damage on the interior? thanks for all your help :)
In that case just follow the steps in my vid. It wont damage anything. Might be worth considering a sticker that you wont want to take off when selling. Something more subtle?
***** The vinyl in the video has now been on the car for a year. There is no peeling and looks as good as day one. If you do it properly it will stay on forever.
Hi John - yes I have a GTI. The vinyl has been on for a couple of months now and gone through very hot weather and its still as good as the day I put it on. Good luck with yours.
+Kcufdurt Tnuc A hair dryer will work fine. some wraps just have different temperatures to work with. I have vinyl that stretches at 30 - 40 °C and forgets its memory about 80 - 90 °C so it holds its form. I use hair dryers most of the time, it works great ;)
took long as shit to do and I used a hair dryer and it worked fine, wrap get hot quick an stretchy fast. I found it better to leave extra on the edges so that way after I heat it up I can pull and stretch getting a better wrap finish.
Should invest in a 35-degree angle blade/super sharp blade, they give such a nicer finish and are good to use when working on tedious jobs. That box cutter should be in the bin.
To be honest, I don't really think he's woffling, everything he's talking about is informative and a great help, defiantly feel more confident to go out and give it a go after this, great work Garage Legacy!!
What kind of wrap did you use. Cause I bought one on ebay kind of chip and my friend who bought the same he try to use it and he said is crab shit Chinese wrap. Don't work. When he applied the heat the plastic just ripped off when he was handling it.
wow man, you could have edited that down to five minutes and it would have been equally as useful... i'm definitely bookmarking this for next time I'm having trouble sleeping.
There are plenty of edited videos for you to look at. I wanted to make mine different to show the full job and how long it actually takes. Thanks for watching!
Idiots who are complaining - there are plently of edited videos out there. I've watched one and didn't understand shit as the guy in the video just skipped the whole part where he was doing the wrapping and instantly showed the result, stop complaining and move on.
Why spend all that time getting it perfect if you are not gonna clean the knobs that the vinyl wrap is covering? Good video but take the time to get everything done and cleaned correctly. Just makes the job look like a pro.

This video was AMAZING! Im feeling pretty confident about doing my interior trim with this stuff.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the detailed instruction for a beginner like me. I'll try it this weekend!

+SRS Fleet Nice one mate! Good luck with your project.
Excellent video! Extremely useful when I attempt a few interior pieces of my own. Again, excellent job done!
My pleasure Seth - Thanks for watching!
I appreciate that you took your time on this. Very detailed. Thanks!
I Just Did the Radio panel on my Audi a4 following process and it looks perfect. went and bought a heat gun. Brilliant Idea!! Thanks
Nice one mate - glad to have helped.

If you screw it up - just heat it up and start again!
You will have enough for 4 or more attempts if required but you will do it on the first!
Apparent Overdose of Car Stuff! Fingers crossed :-D
Very informative and greatly helpful video sir. Thank you very much for taking time and showing us how you do it.
You are very welcome Joshua. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for this video, very informative! I'm gunna wrap some interior pieces in my F150 this weekend.
+Michael Sullivan Good luck bro - I would love a F150!

Thanks for watching! Glad the video helped you.
Thank you very much for posting this. It was very insightful.
When I was at school..... 2/8ths was known as 1/4...!!!!! 😂😂😜😜👍👍 made me smile, sort of thing I'd come out with..!!

About to do this myself on am infiniti to cover up the cheap looking fake wood crap. Thanks for the video!

Very good video, I will do the same in my Golf MK4, as soon as I recived the vinyl from EBay thanks
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for taking your time to share this,Very helpful..... Appreciated.
You sir are very welcome
turned out real nice mate 👍
Looks great. You could do with giving the button and dials a good clean to match. Think I'm gonna do the trim on my wifes lupo.
Very good tutorial! Wish I was that good! Those square corners kill me every time.
Thanks for watching!
Keep practicing mate and give a little extra heat on those corners.
Thanks a Ton! Just what i need to do on my Swedish Tank.

Thanks you sir - I am glad to help.
I am interested to know if u have done the vents on your MK4, I am planing to do mine and tips would help alot.
Thanks, great video
No I didn't do the vents
Damn, professional job. I have a TDI Jetta/Bora I want to do this to. How is it holding up in Summer heat?
VincenzaV1 Looks as good as new!
Thanks for watching.
Good show! (Works better at 1.25 speed.)
Might be a good idea to use a scalpel, and to change the blades regularly. Just stops the edges from rippling further down the line
I also believe you're cutting into mdf which produces a lot of dust which will stick to your parts.
How come you're not using a scalpel/craft knife? I've always found Stanley knives to be a bit rough and not as precise.
+iplaydurty Good idea - I will get a craft knife for the next project!
100'000 views! Yeah boiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Hey your video was a great help :) do you know if i can use the same amount of heat on a sticker bomb? and how easy is it to remove when i get sick of it?
Chantal Wroth Where are you sticker bombing? If if normal stickers - just clean and dry before sticking. A little heat will help for the removal.

ok thank you :)
1/4 inch bud for future reference thanks for the video been wanting to do this for awhile
instead of these wraps can I use the super cheap ones or will they cause any damage?
What is the type of vinyl wrap you used? I have a couple of damaged pieces on the interior counsel I want to wrap. Thank You
Jesus Rivera I used a 4D Carbon look bought from eBay,
awesome, thanks for sharing!!
Does the vinyl wrap begin to fall off over time or during the heat of summer ?
***** The vinyl in the video has now been on the car for a year. There is no peeling and looks as good as day one. If you do it properly it will stay on forever.
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback
sweet i just had to put the vid on 1.5 speed caz you rly took your time but good job :)
+Johny V Thanks bro a 1.5 speed is a good idea!
Thank you,i will be doing this today to my mk4 golf gti,by the way is that a gti you've got..
Hi John - yes I have a GTI.
The vinyl has been on for a couple of months now and gone through very hot weather and its still as good as the day I put it on.
Good luck with yours.
PRETTY AWESOME
Thanks for watching!
muy bueno quedó... felicitaciones
Him i've been doing the exact piece of trim for my mk4 but cant get the vinyl to stick in the rings? Any tips? Its the 5d carbon stuff
Did you degrease your ring first?
is a hair dryer a sufficient substitute for a heat gun?
+Kcufdurt Tnuc A hair dryer will work fine.
some wraps just have different temperatures to work with. I have vinyl that stretches at 30 - 40 °C and forgets its memory about 80 - 90 °C so it holds its form.
I use hair dryers most of the time, it works great ;)
+GoodMods okay awesome! thanks!
can it come unglued in a hot car? My car can get into the 60's(C) in summer easy
where did you get that vinyl contact. Im in Australia however
GDay mate! - I got it from eBay..
I don't have a heat gun. Will a hair dryer do the same thing?
joelk91 yea
If you can make it hot!
can you use a hairdryer for doing this ?
what he said ^
Hey thanks for converting to sae! metric is so much better though, my country is lagging
No problem pal. Thanks for watching!
this is nice!!
Middle console part of a VW Golf mk4 ;)?
+Andreas Munk Jørgensen yes sir
How to protect it when it’s hot outside?
took long as shit to do and I used a hair dryer and it worked fine, wrap get hot quick an stretchy fast. I found it better to leave extra on the edges so that way after I heat it up I can pull and stretch getting a better wrap finish.

A 2/8TH LOL 1/4 inch
Please do the rest of the centre trim + console and put up the video.
Should invest in a 35-degree angle blade/super sharp blade, they give such a nicer finish and are good to use when working on tedious jobs. That box cutter should be in the bin.
Ohhhhhh myyyyyy loooooord you are so slow!! Ffs you just woffle on! Get on with it man!
i love to blue waffle
+Liam Hannam Dude the video came out over 2 years ago and you only just commented, now that's what i call slow ;)

Where did you order your vinyl from ?
The piece needs to be smooth, the vinyl won't stick if it has some texture?
i agree
What kind of wrap did you use. Cause I bought one on ebay kind of chip and my friend who bought the same he try to use it and he said is crab shit Chinese wrap. Don't work. When he applied the heat the plastic just ripped off when he was handling it.
I don't used yet. And I have like 10×10 feet.
of course for decades we just called this stuff "Sticky-back Plastic".
Melvyn Wilde Thanks for the history lesson.
at least +5bhp from that
Kim Jong-un I hate you kim
Almost 33 minutes on that small piece -.- gladly I fast forward it
I can't remove the 2 trim pieces that are on each side
They only come off with the wooden and aluminium trims I think. If you’ve got the rubberised plastic you’ve gotta take the whole centre console out
A bit like waterboarding.
When doing a tutorial make the length of the video shorter as to keep the person interested. It was interesting but did go slow.
Didn't quite strike the balance between informative and entertaining.
OK - it actually put me to sleep!

Wake me up when its over
Why shouldn't u use a hairdryer?
I think carbon is of of date.. black brushed aluminium is mutch better..
You can use any vinyl look you desire.
Es que no limpias los botones...! Deberías haberlo limpiados antes de poner el embellecedor...! No creés...?

Hurry Up. This video is taking forever.
Put it on 1.5 speed
I’d give your car a good clean before you worry about the colour of the dash 😆
using an small nife is better to work it
A 30 minute installation video and thats easy???
ATX max Yeah budy!
Mine os good too. I've used woodprix handbooks and build it with no problems.
I can't do it
whats that gun called
Heat gun, if you have sister or a wife use their blow drier!
hey watch out its backwards!
It looks terribly and it was made incorrectly with nasty wrinkles.

+moltitrader there are these things called "weekends" you know.
