    Do not "test taste" the asteroids. Prospector limpets increase the yield of asteroids. ALWAYS HAVE PROSPECTOR LIMPETS!

    • @vib80
      @vib80 3 роки тому +16

      He was only talking about taste testing in an Adder. Given that you only have 20-some tonnes of cargo space in Adder builds, increased yield is pointless, more cargo space is better. It is the exception to the rule because Adder miners are tiny and very temporary (one trip then buy a better ship). Any real miner should always have them.

    Started with an Adder (surprisingly good mining ship for beginning players), mined enough to purchase and outfit a Python. My Python strikes a pretty good balance between mining utility, jump range, and cargo space. I'd definitely recommend the Python for anyone serious about mining.

    To fit everything into one ship, I built a mining Vette. You can have all the mining modules plus a shield and fuel scoop and still have 3 size 7 cargo racks. Swopped the mining lasers for more seismic charge launchers and filled the hold with high value minerals from deep cores. Tried the Python but it was not as agile, so moved it’s modules to a Krait mk2 which is also good. Guardian FSD Booster is an important part of the Vette build.

    Type 10 pilot here, with 5 mining lasers, 256 cargo tons, 17 collectors... that thing drains asteroids...

    Adder> Cobra> Keelback> Asp Explorer> Kraith MkII/Phantom and them the Glorious Python, from now on you are set, next step would be the Anaconda. I would rather prefer do a 2 or 3 more trips on a Python over a T9, the T9 is a really good transporter with a decent jump but it is way to slow and cumbersome to flight.
    The Clipper would be the step after the Asp Explorer, but not all people will have the necessary rank to buy it when they got the credits. Not sure why even consider Dolphin with 2 small hardpoints.
    Mostly ships can be retrofitted to other activities after you manage and upgrade.
    Cobra - a starter pirate ship;
    Keelback- a material gatherer and the first interaction with fighters;
    Asp and Phantom- exploration and data farmers from mega ships or crash sites;
    Clipper- combat ship an ok explorer(that fuel tank though...) but it shines as a pirate ship, that class 7 alot with that speed makes sure no trader will run from you or you will leave their cargo half full;
    Kraith MkII - pirate hunter and combat pilot wet dream or a pirate itself;
    Python- well it does everything, it is a pocket size Anaconda.

    My fav miner is the Federal Dropship.
    Affodrable, size Medium, decent jumprange, lots of hardpoints for mining tools and fending off pirates, averages 72 cargo space, and lots of hull for dealing with pirates (I fly this thing shieldless believe it or not).

  • @draconusspiritus1037

    I have mined surface, sub-surface-, and core in a Cobra Mk3 (without shields), an Asp-X (without shields), an Alliance Chieftain (without shields), a Python, an Anaconda, a Type 9 Heavy, and an Imperial Cutter. And I can tell you emphatically that there is no such thing as a 'Best' ship for mining. There is one or more ships that do what any one specific person wants to do. But there is no one size fits all that works for everyone. That's why there are so many different ships.
    How badly you need to have shields on your mining vessel of choice (or opportunity) depends entirely on your personal ability to evade interdiction. Unless or until you get into the larger ships, equipping even just minimum mining equipment is going to leave you with few if any remaining hard points for weaponry. Even with shields, if you get interdicted, you're looking at either giving up some or all of your load. Or you're trying to dodge incoming munitions long enough for your FSD to cool down then recharge in order to jump out.

  • @alanhobson9121
    @alanhobson9121 2 роки тому +3

    Back before I got my fleet carrier, I did a lot of mining -- at least 8 billion credits worth. I mostly used a Cutter that was fitted out just for laser mining. The only place I had to jump was the nearest station with a large pad where I had another Cutter fitted out as a hauler and optimized for jump range. That way I didn't have to make any trade offs between mining speed/capacity and jump range.
    I have mined using my carrier as a base and it was pretty easy and profitable before FDev nerfed mining. Now I mostly do bulk trading and exploration with it.

  • @gappleton8255

Best shields out of any medium I believe. There is literally nothing this ship does poorly. Well worth the price tag. I spent a lot of time in an AspX also.

    I also think the Keelback is worth a mention as a stepping-stone ship (after dolphin and before an ASP). The view is great and has well positioned MMSS hardpoints for some core mining tools as well. It basically has all that you wish the type 6 should have but doesn't :D
    Personally, I really like the type 10 for mining it's 9 hardpoints allows for ALL types of mining + some defense + tanked shields . With around 200T + lots of limpets+fighter if you want more defense and less less space. Especially when i can invite my son's account on board to operate turreted mining lasers. you can just fly past asteroids and open up mining merry hell on them without even needing to point the ship at them. Also while the big lakons are easy to interdict, few ships can mass lock it so can usually leave an interdiction quite quickly.
    Mine has G5 heavy duty armor and 2 military slots stuffed with heavy duty deep plate as well. The thing has little to worry about from NPC pirates. G5 dirty drag drives also get between the rocks fast enough with cargo door closed. I don't worry about scraping rocks either when core mining as the shields are so tanked i just bounce off them when squeezing in there with the abrasion blaster.
    Of course the type 9 is similar and can store an absolute tankerload, but is not as defensible.

    I’m a new player, just logged in about 30-40 hours in the past few weeks I’ve owned the game. Every time, I go back to my asp explorer and remain stunned at how well it does... well... anything you ask it to. If you’re a new player that isn’t entirely into combat yet, and you like the maneuverability of small ships but need that extra space, I cannot recommend the asp explorer enough. It’ll do cartographics, it’ll do mining, it can do bounty hunting surprisingly well for a non-combat oriented ship. It’ll haul cargo. Heck, you can even do basic passenger missions if you feel the need.
    Point is, the asp explorer won’t let you down. It’s one of the cheapest medium sized ships, and it’ll go a long way to impress you. The money input to money output ratio is insane. And I don’t even do void opal mining, I just do painite mining. Less cargo efficient but it’s more engaging and less frustrating. Aanyway, this is a relative newbie’s opinion. I keep buying new ships, but the asp explorer always comes back to be my primary slot to make money like a champ.

    I have 2 mining ships, a clipper for laser/sub surface missle mining, (128t) and a Imperial Cutter for Deep Core (512t) I couldn't imagine a worse kind of hell than taking a Type 9 Heavy into a planets rings 😆.
    On a good run (and most are) i can make about 700m doing a few hours of Void Opal mining on the cutter. The clipper is more or less just a tritium farmer (if you can't find a Tritium hotspot, then go to a Void, Alex or LTD hotspot and look for the lemons (bright yellow lemon shaped asteroids, theyll never have whatever the hotspot is, but usually will have a few tritium subsurface deposits)
    With clean drive tuning, the Cutter is surprisingly agile in those rings. I woildnt take it in without atleast level 3 though. Ive never had many issues lining up for those abrasion blaster deposits after popping a asteroid (the boom alone is worth deep core mining..)
    Now Limpet loss on the other hand.... I have seen some pure limpet stupidity when mining.. Ive seen them crash head on into asteroids, ive seen them crash into my ship, Ive seen them crash into whatever they were going to scoop up.. ive seen them crash into each other. Clearly they are running on Windows ME..

    I love using my Corvette for mining, got an engineered A grade FSD and FSD booster so jumpe range isn't abyssmal. It also has one of the largest cargo capacities in the game. The other ship I use is my Anaconda for obvious reasons. :D

    • @neurokinetik64ES
      @neurokinetik64ES 4 роки тому +2

      Yeah, for me it's the Corvette as well. I like that with all the capacity, I can carry a huge amount of limpets, and still have room for strong shields, a big fuel scoop, and even a fighter bay. With all of it's hardpoints, it doesn't lose very much combat capability either, in case you run into pirates. Unlike the Cutter or the T9, it's also not horrible to fly in an asteroid field.

    • @hisgreasiness
      @hisgreasiness 4 роки тому

      I keep 2 Corvettes, rather than constantly changing internals for specific tasks. One focused on trading/mining, the other for combat. Strangely, each can do both tasks competently but do their intended task exceptionally.

    the glowing duckface ship is a mighty miner... but you do have to choose between MOAR LASERS!!!!(aka no srv material mining, aka bring MOAR limpets), vs full mining setup(which does require learning firing trajectory of the under and side tools), and it technically being the fastest/best turning miner out there(no mamba for you), youll be done mining in no time, compared to everyone else.

    In my opinion the Python is better than the Krait MK.II in both laser and core mining as it has 1 more optional internal compartment of Class 6 which offers you more space (one thing is that I put a Guardian FSD Booster so that may have skewed my perception) and it is a bit more maneuvreable when it comes to pitch.

    cutter does have other advantages over the type 9 aside from basking. Tighter laser groupings for better control of where the fragments fly and much better ability to defend itself or run if the need arises. Pain to get an expensive vs the Type 9 but there are practical reasons for it.
    Still have my asp for long range and core mining. Working on a multipurpose Python similar to what D2EA has going on.

    First bought ship should always be Adder and then just sell/trade it in... after one full load, go to AspX (keep this one for exploring after you're done mining with it)... after one or two loads, go to Python (keep this one for general purpose or cargo runs)... after a few more loads, then the last ship you will ever need for anything and everything: Anaconda. After a while if you want to go further and get more, then work through the ranks to get the Cutter which is only useful as a mining ship, not worth using for anything else. Krait is good as a fighter, sucks for mining. Clipper is decent for exploring but sucks for mining due to small cargo capacity...

  • @desertvik1ng
    @desertvik1ng 3 роки тому

    I've found an engineered python (stripped down, lightweight, long range FSD, and dirty drags) is the best for core mining, even over the Krait Mk2. You need to be able to get outside the bubble to pristine rings, then get back to the highest seller. I can usually pull this off in less that 10 jumps both ways. Depending on what I'm mining, and what the prices are, I can usually net 145M in 90 minutes total roundtrip time. The key is the extra size six compartment in the python, that allows for better/more collector limpets, which makes for faster asteroid cleanup after you crack it open. Engineering the thrusters, even just to grade three, basically negates the advantage of the Krait for maneuverability.
