Haha! Those are both my set of strings I use. I normally use the 56 to 13 but if they don’t have them I’m using the 52 to 12 set. I’m tuning to C standard, on a Jackson JS32. 🤘🏼👽
I worked on 3 today: a 1992 Samick SV/560 in E standard with D’Addario 10-42’s, an Epiphone MKH Les Paul Custom in drop C# with D’Addario 11-56’s and a Donner Tele in Drop D with Ernie Ball 11-48’s.
In my experience (strats not withstanding), setting your bridge pickup height first and then matching the neck to the output of the bridge is the most consistent way to get a good balance. Your neck pickup has a greater range of frequencies at higher amplitudes in its field because of how much closer to the antinode it is. Get a good tone from your bridge where it’s more limited in potential output and then get the neck to match. Also on my bench at One Three Guitar in Richmond VA today I’ve got a fret job, two tube amps to diagnose and a nut to make for a P Bass! Had a lot of folks move to C standard recently so a lot of need for new nuts that can support string spacing for 12-56 (our base’s preferred gauge set for C)
The hidden factor in all these well intended videos is the quality of the fretwork. Adjust the truss rod lower the action etc... then you find high frets and dead spots, you don't have the tools or experience to fret level your guitar so you take it to a luthier. This work plus the setup while its in his hands kills the price of a budget guitar that seemed a bargain. Food for thought from years of experience
Hell yeah! I honestly love it for the price and it’s coming up on soon on the channel. I think a demo of the epiphone is next, want to do a pedalboard setup video, and then that one :)
I've been using custom sets from string joy for a while now. I tried a bunch of diff sizes and scales and then took the best feeling one and plugged it into their string calculator. Turns out I like about 18 lbs of tension on each string From there, just plug in the scale length and tuning, then change the string gauge til you get 18 lbs. For gibson scale in c-std that gives me 13.5, 18, 22p, 34, 44, and 60. Been using these for maybe a year or two and been super happy. For the guitar, I just got one of those brent hinds silver burst v's and the thing is killer. Set up in c-std with my custom set above. I also play a 28" bari in Bb-std. Miraculously, it uses the same exact strings as my c-std guitar. I guess the extra length is the perfect counter to tuning down a whole step
One thing to keep i mind is your gauges also depend on your scale length. For Fender scales and above, you can use 011 in C standard without issues. You'd only use 012 or 013 for Drop B or B standard. That's assuming you want to feel like you're playing 009.
First time ever changing strings on my acoustic I snapped the high e string and it bit me on the cheek right under my eye. Definitely freaked me out for a few minutes.
Personally i can't imagine playing in C std with 52 😅 Currently using 12-65 in B std with 25.5 inch scale length and it suit my playing incredibly well.

Best teacher there is! Thanks brother!
I'll actually be goin through the exact same process on my SG in a couple days for the same strings and tuning. Great video.
These videos of guitar set up saved my life earlier! Thank you so much!
So happy they were helpful!
Your previous video on this helped me a lot...Looking forward to watching this one
Thanks for checking this one out and glad the other was helpful!

That’s a busy day and some rad guitars!
great video!
Cheers and thank you!

Bad fretjobs are always a bummer!
I spy a boss katana 100 head back there. Can’t wait to see the video been wanting to see your take on this amp!

@@FuzzlordEffects SICK!!
Badass!
Thanks!
Awesome video! But what if your bridge is a one piece wrap around with no individual intonation adjustment for each string?

Sick guitars! Those stringjoy sets are amazing and their tension calculator is badass
No need to adjust the nut slots for the wider strings?
if you go really large on the string guages you will need to, but I don't recommend most people try doing that. The EJ21 set fits most nuts well
Yeah, that always seems to be the big issue to me
if you go from stock 48 to a 56 you absolutely should.

I think everyone has experienced this at least once. 😂😂
It’s def scary when it happens haha!
SG:C standard 12-56 w/ 3rd wound string.
LP:Dropped C 11-54
Who makes that 12-56 set?? I might have to try a set that’s right in between the two sets I like
C standard on a 24.75 12-58. Anything over 11-52 you need to file the nut or you’ll run into binding and tuning issues.
Personally i can't imagine playing in C std with 52 😅 Currently using 12-65 in B std with 25.5 inch scale length and it suit my playing incredibly well.
Beefy!
On more than one occasion I have used 9-41 on a fender, and tune in C standard. I think I'm a psychopath.
Light strings can work great too!
I use a 2001 Gibson Les Paul Custom with 11-70 tuned to drop B
That’s a beefy set of strings!
