The guy wanting to correct others even while on the shitter is the most relatable character I've ever seen
Lol. I also love how he ignores everything that Homer said in conversation to himself until Homer quotes what he thinks is the formula for an isosceles triangle
@@bhmch39 Lookin' at the shoes and pants, I think it's one of Burns's bodyguards.
@@bhmch39 Actually it's an outrageously erroneous statement, although a direct quote, from the scarecrow from the wizard of oz upon receiving his brain.
But even he was wrong
@@Greg_Rock You know, I always felt like that was intentional in Wizard of Oz to imply that the gifts are not literal and that the characters were good because of who they were, not what they thought they needed to fit in.
But maybe I'm reading into it. Maybe there's some quote where the screen writer or someone just says, "Yeah, I blew it."
A subtle layer of hilarity is that Homer was the only one in those videos doing absolutely nothing while all the men fired were working.
nice catch!
nothing subtle about it... that was literally the joke.
Well done Captain Obvious, you've save the day once again!!
Surprised people was actually working in the plant
@@mamacrow2759 I thought the joke was how fast Burns was so willing to frivolously lay off random employees, and the line about Homer was a separate joke.
6 great jokes in a little over a minute - the Simpsons in its prime.
I know. ever since the new start, its gotten more boring
thinking of jokes they haven’t done yet is hard
also in our modern society, they might offend some people.
which is sad
@@quchi7232 That is all right, it has be so long they can repeat them. People would most likely aplaud them. And if it offend, you should do it.
@@kofola9145 I just want Futurama back
@George Henry Fox is still milking this show, now crawl back to your sewer with your clown friend
The glasses saved Homer's job.... Lol.....
Because the glasses make him looks like a typical egghead and Mr. Burns doesn't even recognized him with the glasses. In fact, Mr. Burns hardly recognized Homer at all, even without the glasses, especially he never remembered his name.
in the early seasons he did that was a gag that started when he stole the oil and did all those other bad things and it just kind of stuck for a while.
Last time I took something from the toilet and put it on my head at work, it did my career no favours, I can tell you.
@@billmcdonnell79 just like Frank Shirley from Christmas Vacation. Never gets Griswold's last name or first name right.
@@RetroPCUser You think Frank Shirley, Clark Griswold's boss probably was an inspiration for Mr. Burns always forgetting Homer's name?
This animation style is the best of Simpsons. Makes Homer look like a loveable fool, which he is :)
NakedSnake agreed
I totally agree! Somewhere around the third and fourth seasons of the Simpsons he looks really derpy but really adorable
Exactly what I thought. These were the best times for Simpsons, the coloring and style of the new animations are horrendous.
Nice to see I am not alone with my opinion :) The new animation style looks too cold and sterile compared to this :3
The new ones make him (and Bart) out to be a complete idiot. With no merit or potential.
Please put the Simpsons out of its misery.
"that's a right triangle you idiot!" laughed so hard at that lol
Direct spoof of "The Wizard of Oz", Scarecrow makes the same incorrect statement :P
Don’t forget the follow up “Doh!”
“Doh!” 😂😂😂😂
Even then, it's wrong lol
And it's wrong ANW
I love the awkward pause in the doorway at the end where neither person knows what to say and the awkwardness just grew. Then Burns just gives up and wanders off... Careful comedic timing even though noting was being said.
Modern Zombie Simpsons has constant pauses that go nowhere. No jokes, no comedic timing, just awkward pausing for the sake of filling time between scenes. If this scene were done today, Burns and Smithers would stand there silently while Kissinger simply turns and leaves, then they would close the door and onto the next scene.
I thought it was because they know he dropped his glasses in the toilet and now it’s awkward because they think he doesn’t know
i think that was while he was thinking someone and they just react to that because hes silent.
*nothing
I thought he was going to slowly close the door
0:13 Notice how Homer walks toward the sink as if he was going to wash the glasses, but then puts them on without washing them. The art of subverting expectations amirite
Even if you didn’t care it’s funny too.
…or it’s because the mirror is there and he wanted to see what he looked like with them on?
I get the possibility for subversion, but washing glasses like that isn’t hinted enough for me to think that’s what they’re going for there.
What up the dope?!
RIP Mr. Kissinger. One of the most simplistic but great gags in television history with your brief moment on The Simpsons.
@@JF-um3wz he literally puts them under the facet. It's what they were going for. ✌️
30 years later Kissinger finally walked into that brick wall
"Hmmm......better keep the egghead. He just might come in handy".
"Hmmm, better keep Henry Kissinger. He just might come in handy to prevent our McCain-enomics" (This clip must have been from 1999-2000 when McCain ran against Dubya Bush in the Republican primaries.)
My bad. It was in 93, during the first Bush.
Ironically Burns laid off really good workers and kept the laziest man in the plant
@@tomedy_official he would have laid off homer as well if homer didn't find those glasses he just got lucky
@@andyszlamp2212 Nope this was during Bill Clinton's first presidential term.
I wonder how Homer got home wearing those glasses.
easy, simpsons logic
+qmto Well they did stop him from losing his job!
He got home with crusted eyes, I think he can manage with incompatible glasses.
he's pretty used to getting home drunk, so this was easy peasy
Magnus strømsnes Exactly
""No one must know I dropped them in the toilet. Not I, the man who drafted the Paris Peace Accord""
Lol 🤣
I couldn’t even understand the second half 😂
That was the gag that made me LoL
Idk if he was on this episode but that’s such a Conan o Brian joke
Thank you so much, I couldn't understand him
This scene is the first thing that came to my mind after reading of Kissinger's death.
Did he die by walking into a wall?
This will be kissinger's legacy. RIP BOZO.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
How edgy
He was a man of his time in an era of ruthless foreign policy from ALL SIDES of the Cold War. If we had a weak SOS with defeatist pacifist stances in that era the world would be either a significantly worse place or it wouldn’t exist as we know it anymore.
@@oldworldpatriot8920 Given your username I'm not so sure that's a good take
Who knows but CIA did numerous bad things during his time
@@oldworldpatriot8920 He made it worse. Chile was no threat to the US - ever - yet Kissinger plotted to have Pinochet overthrow Allende, a democratically elected president, and install a brutal dictatorship and reign of terror. That wasn't realpolitik, that was Kissinger being true to his evil nature.
The “hmms” from burns and smithers is so hilarious for some reason.
Blaise Dahl I love how they just stand there awkwardly waiting for Kissinger to leave
Henry Kissinger never could have predicted that his glasses falling in the toilet would ultimately save Homer's job 😂
He couldn't have predicted people laughing and dancing on his grave either.
@@ilikecurry2345 I'm pretty sure he did, he just didn't care.
I think he just quoted the scarecrow on the Wizard Of Oz with the math equation. They were making fun of the fact that it was wrong.
Yes they did.
This is not the only time they've quoted that line from Wizard of Oz either.
I’ve just watching The Wizard of Oz and after that scene the first thing that I do was come here xD
And it's still wrong even when he 'corrects' it to right triangle XD
Sum of the SQUARES not sum of the square roots
@@industrialdonut7681 the bottom joke. If you knew that formula probably knew also they were referring to idiots that like to scream to an imagen who can't respond, that being moronic
Probably misses his old glasses
It was Marge, admit it.
Does Bart seem different to you? 😄
Give those glasses to the bailiff! And those....
Is it wrong that when I saw the headline that Henry Kissinger died, this was the first thing I thought of?
No. I had the same thought 😂
What's wrong is that you didn't immediately break out the champagne on hearing the news.
Same here. I also assumed he died by walking into a wall.
@@AH-be6bu Why?
@@goldenvulture6818because the dude that commented that has absolutely no understanding of the reality and implications of Foreign Policy in that era or a basic understanding of history period. Kissinger was a necessary part of US history without which we would’ve never survived.
I love how all of those working people are fired while Homer is sitting with his arms crossed :D
One of them is Lenny.

Nah.

LOL, that awkward goodbye was so beautifully captured without a single word spoken. God, these writers were geniuses.

"I've lived through twelve recessions, eight panics, and five years of McKinleynomics. I'll survive this." As a kid I didn't understand that joke at all. He's so old he remembers when Reaganomics was called something else. That was such a brilliant joke.
TheKrensada Well actually, Reaganomics wasn't "called something else". The joke is drawing a comparison to the fiscal downturn during William McKinley's presidential run, which created a large economic divide among the classes not unlike during Reagan's run. This was a contributing factor to his assassination.
Reagonomics was actually a re-renaming of Mellonimics which was a renaming of Horse-and-Sparrow economics. McKinley's policies were not the same.
TheKrensada apparently you STILL dont get it.
TheKrensada that’s not the joke
The joke is MR BURNS IS OLD!
President Mckinley served from 1897 to 1901
Who's here for Kissinger's death day ?
Clearly couldn't find his glasses
Me!
me!
Probably misses his old glasses
I like that they had him lean over the sink so you’d momentarily think he’d at LEAST rinse them off before putting them on 😂
lisa is just so cute with the "Dad! You shouldn't wear glasses that weren't prescribed for you!"
I know right? That was also the part I remember clearly.
She was such a cute character back in the day! I think they made her kind of annoying in the later seasons
She was always designed as the voice of reason, a symbol of enlightenment&intellectualism, a direct antithesis to her brother Bart, the perpetual troublemaker
Pro tip: Wear fake glasses on the job so your bosses overvalue your worth.
In all honesty, I’d feel honoured if this was how I was remembered. At least The Simpsons mentioned the Paris Peace Accords, and not the… less good stuff.
Plot twist: The glasses belonged to Frank Grimes.
Good ol' Grimy. I wonder what ever happened to him?
Grimey as he preferred to be called
I figured that was Grimey on the toilet.
Here after Kissinger death anyone?
✋🏼
✋🏻
He was before my time, so all I know about him is from Simpsons, Futurama, and Stephen Colbert
I heard on the news Kissinger died and I thought to myself, the guy who committed the war crimes or the guy who dropped his glasses in the toilets
One and the same
He fired both Lenny and Carl. Together even in defeat.
It's funny they are actually working 😂
Here after hearing Henry Kissinger's death
This is how I'll always remember Henry Kissinger 😂
I’m watching this because Henry Kissinger just died.
Henry Kissinger is now dead. Hey I'm trying to eat lunch here
Love how Lisa just yanks the glasses off and Homer let's her. So much love in the early Simpsons days 🤗

That's the random brilliance of the Simpsons.
@@IronMan-tk8uc The greatest comedy of all time.
@@nicholasstancel Up until the late 90s it was.
@Michael Rich Yes, that is true.
@@IronMan-tk8uc Perhaps, although I do recall some well-written material from 2000 - 2007. I agree though -- for the past decade at least, they have been producing comparably sub-par material to the 90's comedic praxis and themes.
Henry Kissinger may have had a hand in killing people across Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, East Timor, Bangladesh, and Chile. But at least he saved Homer
I love that they animated each page of the folder rather than just flipping the same page over and over.
That scarecrow lied to me my entire life.
You figured it out too that it was a quote from wizard of oz, I just figured it out tonight.
I know why you're here.... Anyone else?
So far, the Simpsons are the only cartoon I’ve ever seen to intentionally use mirrors in their shots. This is of course cool because they usually have to redraw the entire shot in the mirror. Gotta love the attention to detail.
And now he's dead
I guess the secret died with him.
Kissinger died! Now he’ll have to look for his glasses in the toilets of hell.
An afterlife is a myth aka a fantastic lie
RIP TO ONE OF MY FAVE MINOR SIMPSONS CHARACTERS
The awkwardness at the door is one of the most relatable Simpsons moments for me.
FINALLY
Harry shearer talking to himself in 3 different voices lol. Simpsons had the best voice actors in the world back then
No one will ever know he dropped his glasses in the toilet. His secret dies with him.
I like how he's just about to wash the glasses off, but instead just puts them on
That sole crow cawing at the beginning of an episode brings back nostalgic memories
Burns has these layers of awkward silence, culminating in the furrowed brow and raised hand before turning on his heels and walking away. This whole video is a testament to the great writing of Early Simpsons, but credit is also due to those responsible for the visual timing of the animation to make quick, subtle gags like that work so well.
Who's watching this after Henry Kissinger's death?
The price of those glasses must’ve gone up today…
RIP egghead.
anyone else scream at their screen, "RINSE THEM OFF FIRST!"?
“I’m Bart.” That part always gets me good.
Give me those!
So that’s how Kissinger died
I like the idea that Kissinger just keeps standing in the door as Burns and Smithers go about their business.
The best bit is how they don't say goodbye or anything to Kissinger, as he's just been silently thinking for a good while
Ding Dong The Beast is Dead!!!
Leaving his glasses in the toilet was the last thing Henry Kissinger thought about
He didn’t wash them lmao
No rinse, no wipe, just straight from the toilet and onto his face LMAO 😆.
@@scottdinges2031 Congrats on reposting the top comment LMAO 😂
Funny part is, you know he drove home with the glasses on.
RIP Kissinger
My favorite line from the Simpsons...RIP
As a mathematician I feel compelled to point out not only is it a "right triangle" but it's the square, not the square root. Pythag's theorem is a^2 + b^2 = c^2, not sqrt(a) + sqrt(b) = sqrt(c)
I'll go back to slowly dying alone now....
Heh, you're smarter then me, you have that.
also, it's not ANY two sides - it can't include the hypotenuse. anyways :)
bullshit! pics or it didnt happen
Maybe Homer thought the triangle was on the surface of a donut.
As of his recent death, this is the one of the 3 things where I've seen Henry Kissinger and it is the most memorable.
"That's a RIGHT triangle you idiot" Homer's been had
I remember years ago there was a Final Jeopardy question that went something like "this 1930s movie has a character quote the Pathagorean Theorem... and gets it wrong". All three contestants couldn't get the answer, but I knew what it was all thanks to this Simpsons joke.
Pour a duff for a real one. RIP (but not really)
I wonder if Homer managed to get Kissinger's glasses back to him before he died
Love the vision Homer has with the glasses and he doesn't mind anything -- wait, maybe that's how he sees the world
We all know why we’re here
"Oh the taxes! The finger thing means taxes!"
Hahaha
I never knew Homer's quote was a reference to the wizard of oz!!
Kaphooey Boyo It's also a reference to the writer's of the movie being incorrect about the pythagorean theorem
@@Rodeorigo That line could've been one of three things:
1. A deliberately scripting of an inaccurate fact, to make the point that the Wizard's powers are all smoke and mirrors.
2. A mistake on the writers' part, that no one bothered to correct.
3. A blunder on Ray Bolger's part, that the director decided to keep anyway.
My underrated moment of the video is that Homer comes right up to the bathroom sink, pauses briefly, then throws the toilet glasses on his face instead of washing them first
Alright internet, how old must Burns be to have lived through twelve recessions?
It’s in the 4 digit range.
To be fair, a right triangle can be an isoceles.
d'OH!!!!!
+Kokomo Stone The line that random guy on the toilet gives is classic though. Perfect comedy timing in the golden age of The Simpsons.
Yeah, if you draw a line down the middle...
or if it's a 45 45 90 angle one.
Not only was Homer wrong about the type of triangle, he also should have said "square" as opposed to "square root". (Yes, I know it's a Wizard of Oz reference, and no I'm not fun at parties.)
RIP glasses…
He fired Lenny
蛙 not Lenny!
He gave him a chance to plead for his job without using the letter E.
Give no return no my job back or I'll kill you. Signed by Lenny no Earl no L.L.
Aw nuts.
And Carl.
RIP BOZO
I just took the SAT today and I had the exact problem Homer talks about but forgot how to do it, then this popped into my head and I got the question right.
Homer Simpson helped me with a math test, people.
This particular episode is pure comedy gold!
I love that brief moment when you think he's going to wash them off first.
Maybe Homer was thinking of triangles that are on the surface of a donut.
On the inner portion with saddle curvature, or on the outer portion with ellipsoidal curvature?
So are we just gonna ignore the fact homer put on the glasses STRAIGHT from the toilet without washing them off first? 😂
No shit, Sherlock. That's the gag.
That Kissinger impression is spot on.
Even Homer Simpson could not get beyond Low Earth Orbit.
