I've fished the Lehigh my whole life, my Dad was a warden for the PFBC and the Lehigh was his area. He knew every hole on that river. You fished what, at one time, was the best section of the entire river. Goulds run was legendary..... That was before the rafters took over the river. They used to float stock that section, Maple island, Goulds run, etc. etc. were all great spots for stockys and holdovers. I spoke with the fish commission this spring wile stockong the Lehigh and asked why they don't stock that section anymore? he said they only stock from the damm to the I80 bridge because the rafters put in at I80 and they don't want the fisherman and rafters in the same water for fear of possible confrontation. Fish do still make there way down there, but not like it used to be.
Trout in the Lehigh are not as numerous as some other waters in the state, but they do hang around long enough to become plump. Nice fish. It was a good day.
Never been up to Lehigh. Have always wanted to get up there. I hear mixed reviews on the river. Hickory looked gorgeous, but if you aren't the first on the water, it is shot. I always go there at sunrise if I can. Where are you based out of, just out of curiosity. You are all over for videos, but just wondering. Congrats on all the success with the channel. Just zooming up subs. Also, hope you got McD's out of the options. Gotta get you fly fishing, and to including yourself on camera. Can only help!
I supposed I'm based out of South Central PA (Dauphin/Cumberland Counties), but have a family cabin in North Central PA (Lycoming/Clinton Counties), so I try to fish everywhere in between. Just got an Orvis Clearwater 8'6 5wt. Fly Rod but need some serious practice before attempting video. Thanks for the comments man, appreciate it!
@@TravelingTroutCo Very cool. Thanks for sharing. Good luck with the Fly Rod. It definitely takes some time getting used to. However, you know where fish sit, good water, etc so it will help with learning curve. Enjoy that rod, the new ones are very nice. Tight lines man, thanks for replying!
Nice browns, and good work with the net! I think that first fish was a stocked brown. So far, I have only caught wild browns and not stocked ones, but I don't think that size alone can always tell you if they're stocked or wild. You should also look at the dorsal fins and see if any of the other fins are cut up or if there are any scratches on the skin pattern also
I pinch them down, yes. It's better for the fish overall and makes getting them off the hook alot easier. Definitely miss more trout overall but worth it IMO.
I saw one trout after covering over a mile of Hickory. From what I've read, that stream has seen better day with respect to Wild Brown Trout population #'s unfortunately.
I've fished the poconos for most of my life (I'm 58) and never notice the tannic color you're talking about. I just might take your advice and just not watch you again
By the way great content you got I dont spin fish I fly fish but I have hit majority of rivers you did. Anyway next time if you go to this river main river actually has more wild browns way below hickory run there are couple of really nice streams that empty ice cold water into it. I dont fish lehigh in summer when its hot since water can be over 70 easily except down below hickory water can be actually cooler than closer to the dam. Tight lines!
