They have their baby for 8 yrs then they leave it or it leave her. They’re actually alone unless mating or having a baby. It surprised me they’re not more like Gorilla’s or chimpanzees.

How can we imprison these amazing creatures. The gentle intelligence of them is amazing. I bet if there was no glass she would cradle and kiss that baby. I know their forrests are disappearing but there must be a better and more free way for them to live.🙏

And these ones in the zoo are used to humans even more. People who go into the forests of Indonesia are adviced to keep distance from Otangutans, not because they want to hurt people but because they are very curious and very strong. But I think this ones who interact with the zoo's animal keepers are more gentle.

What a sweet moment. Orangutan moms are one of the most nurturing primates out there. And their babies stay with them til around 5 or 6 years old. That's a pure moment you guts captured. Right in the feels man.
Yes it's true!! I consider them most nurturing primates too cause mothers don't take their eyes off their babies! And umm 5 or 6 years is way too even small for younger ones to learn the traditions !! I think it's about 10 to 11 years! It's a knowledge that must be passed on! Like building nests, feeding on insects, swinging etc! I still stand to be corrected please ❤
I found it odd that the child stays for 8 yrs then they go on their own. They solitary unless mating or raising a baby. Gorillas & chimps are in groups. I figured they’re most like us so it’s surprising to learn that. Still would love to meet one & hold a baby.

My all time favorite animal. I once, decades ago, was lucky enough to be able to hold a baby orangutan - I still remember the joy I felt, I did get teary-eyed holding the sweet baby.

A lot of times these are animals that were rescued, or were injured and brought in for rehabilitation for eventual release back into the wild, or they were pets until they got to big and can't be released into the wild bc they wouldn't be able to survive if put in to the wild bc they've were raised by humans.

I hear you but unfortunately there's a lot of illegal poaching that goes on in their natural habitat. The things the poachers do are really horrid. I hope and pray for the time the world is safe enough for these creatures to not be messed with in nature. 💜
@donhagerty5669- its beyond heartbreaking, you are right, I cannot believe some people make excuses for zoos, even for endangered species there are plenty natural reserves well guarded by armed guards against poachers. More money should be put into natural reserves. Zoos bring a lot of money so they are not gonna disappear soon unfortunately. Human are just too selfish.
Sometimes it's the only way to save them from poachers game hunters deforestation really from the things humans do to them in the wild
