    I've imported three Godzilla movies, including collector sets for Shin Godzilla and Godzilla Minus One. I'm considering importing Godzilla vs Kong (2021) because for some reason, it has bonus features that aren't on the US release.

    Yeah I've imported a bunch of mostly Region B stuff that hasn't been released on blu in the US. Stuff I got tired of waiting on. You bought 1 of the 4k Red Sonjas? I heard the transfer on those is really poor and unfaithful to the original film. I'm waiting on Shout's leaked but unreleased blu ray. Since they're releasing it on blu I'm convinced no proper 4k is possible.

    You know living in Japan for a few years now , I've kept up my physical media collection and they have so many cool box sets you would never find in the states , (will need a region free player for DVDs but ehh a small downside) however it's difficult to find movies with English writing so there's that as well , but over all it's a cool experience and I've found some treasures to add to my collection

    Always importing bluray and DVDs, often the videos are available from Spain / Italy / Germany etc and they are a lot cheaper for the same film here in the UK (only takes a second to tweak the language used) or sometimes the films are just not available here in the UK but are in France. Obviously not so useful when dealing with the US as that is Region A (or 1 for DVD) and that is a hassle without a region free player.
    Also, many wonderful films are made in France and Germany and Turkey etc and are worth watching, whether made now or back in the 60s and 70s. OK, maybe in a foreign language but they are easy enough to work out, especially if a horror or SF film even if you can't understand all the dialogue.

      The region free 4k player I have is the greatest thing! I never have to worry about where those movies come from ever again! It leaves me free to buy whatever I want from wherever I want and that is awesome because there are so many great films from everywhere!

    I've been all regions since probably 2000. I ordered my first all region DVD player back when I learned about region coding and saw all the cool titles I could get. Even today, I'm still all regions and still import movies. It surprises me what comes out that we may or may not see in the United States. Love your Turbine haul! Be very careful with your address with Turbine. If it isn't 100% perfect? It will never get delivered. I had to order Knight Rider's box set THREE times because there was a very small address issue. Product kicked ass, but it really sucked trying to get it :(

    • @AVAPopCulture
      @AVAPopCulture  3 місяці тому

      knock on wood, I havent had that issue yet, I set up my address and stuff when I made a profile with them so it just saves it for every order and my street gets messed up all the time because it is pronounced like "Rocksburrow" but spelled "Roxboro"

      @@AVAPopCulture The longer story was that I used LastPass to fill in my account details when I made my Turbine account. Turns out, something about the filling triggered an issue with the form validator on the site. Hey, when you're using a known good address with your form filler app? You assume it is right ... right? When I wrote them about why my Knight Rider made it to my TOWN and was turned away, they said "Your address must be wrong". I said "Impossible - I filled it with a known good form filler password". They sent it again - same result - declined to be delivered. Finally, I reviewed the account and found the issue. TECHNICALLY my fault - but this could EASILY happen to anyone. I covered the entire saga on my podcast for historical purposes. I was really upset for weeks about it. Totally worth it ... Here is my review if anyone is interested. ua-cam.com/video/tG_3dB29tVc/v-deo.html

    Second Sight & Vinegar Syndrome still has the best box sets.

    I've been importing dvd and blurays since forever. Back in the DVDs day, I was buying movies when visiting the US, which was a different region, so I got a multizone player.
    Being in Europe, I still buy releases from other regions, like US and Asia. Particularly in some EU countries, VAT tax is added on all these imported orders, which can make the prices very expensive, so need to find which websites can make things easier for you. If the retailer adds VAT before hand (like Amazon does), it gets cheaper than letting the courier do it

    • @AVAPopCulture

    Importing is the only way I've been able to get some HD versions of films I want; Indicator and Eureka! in the U.K. are great. Also, even if there is a stateside HD release the encodes on Indicator discs tends to be better. I want to pick up the Second Sight "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" ASAP.

    Plaionpictures has Prophecy, or God's Army as it was titled in Europe, in 4K. I know Vinegar just did the box set, but it's only the first Prophecy that is any good and I don't think they have the European cut (God's Army, different ending) in the boxset, but I'm not sure. It's 50 euros, so God damn expensive and all the extra is in German. And no English subs I think. Still, I am tempted.

      @AVAPopCulture  3 місяці тому +1

      I just picked up the Prophecy set by Vinegar syndrome on the halfway to black Friday sale - still waiting on it to get here...I agree that the first one is the one that is good but with that great packaging and low price on the sale, I bought the set!

    • @jespernicolaj
      @jespernicolaj 3 місяці тому

      @@AVAPopCulture Let me know if it has the European cut. As far as I remember, they did a rushed ending and released it in Europe, with the money they got from that, they shot a new ending and released it in the US.

    I'm in Denmark (just above Germany) and that Frightners box set is 75 USD for me (+ shipping), so probably about 85 USD. I don't understand why it is so much cheaper for you. Maybe it's the VAT? Anyway, I have three big concerns buying German blu-rays/4K's. First (and worst) the Germans loves dubbing. Some of their movies (maybe not turbine) are dubbed into German. So, Arnold would be speaking German. I don't want that. Second, I need subs. I'm getting old and sometimes I need subs to understand what the actor is saying. The German sites are not very good at siting whether there are English subs or not. Third worry is that the booklets will be in German. If you never read the booklets and don't care about them - don't worry. Sometimes the film and the artwork is so important so I don't care about the booklet, but most times I want to be able to read that. So I import form the US. But the Germans do amazing editions and the laws in Europe are very strict so it's very secure (if you buy from an established seller, don't buy from shady sellers on ebay.)

    • @AVAPopCulture
      @AVAPopCulture  3 місяці тому +1

      I did go back and check, in the US we dont have to pay the VAT tax BUT the Frighteners was actually $60 US and I had $19 worth of reward dollars with them so that is how it came out to about $40 for me! Everything I have gotten from them has the standard English track and then a German Audio track as well. Some of the booklets being in German is the downside, but i usually dont read them a lot anyway, though I have found it interesting that because I know these movies so well, and I kind of know what the backs of the covers say with the film synopsis ,I have found myself accidentally able to read through several sentences at a time in German hahaha - I told my wife if I keep buying German imports, I'll be fluent in German thanks to movies!!!

    • @jespernicolaj
      @jespernicolaj 3 місяці тому

      @@AVAPopCulture That is a good sales pitch to the wife. I'm pretty decent at German, had it in school for seven years, but I want English subs and it is so much easier for me if the booklets are in English. But options are always good. And the do beautiful artwork for the steelbooks and slips. I'm not a steelbook guy, but for all the collectors who loves steelbooks, this is an amazing option.
