Hey made a new discord server! Check it out here: discord.gg/T2Y9dJfTdT This video was a nightmare to render out. Had to do it a bunch of times, due to constant glitches within the video. I think for the most part, it's fixed, but if some parts look grainier and low quality than others, I apologize.
I think time would be better spent if the community attempted to have them rerelease the film either on Blu-ray or possibly 4K disc. This may sound like a stretch but Arrow Video, a UK based film restoration company, has been obtaining distribution rights and restoring classic films from Universal and other studios who don’t have that infrastructure. They’re literally a hop, skip and jump from these guys and I thing it would definitely be worth it. They’d have to update the CGI a bit but I think movie nuts would be all over it
Hey, I was reasherching on deleted episodes/animals/scenes/ideas from Walking With Dinosaurs and Walking With Beasts. I can't find much. Can anyone make a list of cut and deleted stuff from these 2 series?
Even though it's not scientifically accurate as we once thought (due to new discoveries) it was a fantastic series because it treats Dinosaurs what they actually were... not monsters, but animals!

To be fair, when do pilot episodes ever get released to the public? Their whole point is to be a proof of concept that the directors/writers can present to give the executives an idea of what the team has in mind. A pilot episode is just test footage, it's not supposed to be seen by outside people just like the first rough draft of a movie script is not supposed to be leaked.
I guess I just figured over time, they'd release it as a way to give back to the fans. Shed a little light on their humble beginnings, but I suppose that's the whole point of the Trilogy of Life special.
@@DinoDiego16 Just 1 nit-pick: We saw the Cetiosaurus in "The Making of Walking With Dinosaurs" (See 27:18: www.dailymotion.com/video/x7788v7 ), long before "Trilogy of Life".
What’s also curious is that they got Tim Curry himself to provide the narration for this 6 minute pilot episode, and while I think Kenneth Branagh was a perfect choice to narrate WWD it makes you wonder how good of a job Tim could have done if he narrated the series proper.
I remember every year the bbc would rerun the entire ‘walking with’ franchise and the specials. This is still one of my favourite franchises and the nostalgia is strong.
The walking with “era” from 1991-2007 with all the walking with shows in the unofficially know as ‘Prehistoric Earth’ saga is amazing, especially Nigel Marvins documentaries in that too. A True age of paleo discovery, advancement and popularisation. Without Walking With Dinosaur’s there would be 0 Prehistory or Dino docs today. Without a doubt.
We're incredibly lucky to have this series. I don't care how outdated it is. The presentation is spot on. I'll never forget the first time I saw the march of the Muttaburrasaurus', with that majestic score playing. Gives me goosebumps every time. Especially with the german narrators voice. As much as I like Kenneth Branagh's calm and collected tone, Otto Clemens' ice cold, booming, thunder-like voice will always blow me away. That voice really emphaSIZEs the power of sound. Whenever he says Diplodocus, it sends shivers down my spine.
Great video of the History of Walking with Dinosaurs. This is without a doubt one of the best dinosaur documentaries ever made and a huge part of my childhood and it still holds up. I really wish BBC could do a reboot of the Walking with Dinosaurs Series exist so we could see the accurate version of the dinosaurs we see in the show and to have a lot of Nostalgia to the Original Walking with Dinosaurs. Great video Dino Diego.
I can’t be the only one who remembers this “Walking with Prehistoric Beasts” trailer: Kid is, I think, playing with some dinosaur toys and turns to his dad and asks “what happened after the dinosaurs” “Well they went extinct.” “Yeah but what happened after that?” Or something like that then you hard cut to the cool critters in the trailer. Blew my freakin’ mind back then because I never even CONSIDERED post Cretaceous life until that very moment and trailer.
This is so cool, I never even knew this was a thing!! I wasn't as big on the sequel series, so I didn't even really watch them until years later, and never owned them on DVD. So fun to learn new things about this series, which was honestly a cornerstone of my childhood.
I cannot believe it! This series started EXACTLY 5 years before I was born.... and I am basically obsessed with prehistoric life. I’m pretty sure that this got me into it.. but that is insane!
I remember seeing the brief footage of those sauropods from the making of Walking With Dinosaurs. It puzzled me for so long on what was up with that footage and now I know. Solving childhood mysteries yo!
That shot of the feeding Cetiosaurus briefly appeared in the Making of Walking with Dinosaurs documentary that accompanied the original series, when talking about how Diplodocus didn't hold their necks upright like that. I did wonder where that clip came from!
I've still got my walking with dinosaurs and walking with beasts dvd's, though I do think I'm missing a few after all this time I did not know about walking with monsters, I've got to try and watch it now
Just saw this today. I haven't seen the Pilot since the workshop in the late 1990s when we brainstormed about the project. It isn't fair to call it an "episode"; it was really just a "proof of concept" to show how to integrate CG & puppet dinosaurs/pterosaurs/plesiosaurs into a natural environment. As you can see from the clips, the models were really early drafts of what happened later. One aspect I do remember which was clearly different was in the discussion of the (alleged) differential smelling ability of Liopleurodon, they did a freeze frame and a digital cut away to show the internal anatomy. The production team decided they didn't like this approach, and it was canned. (That said, some other documentaries like "Clash of the Dinosaurs" used this technique).
Did you ever watch the Dinosaur! documentary from 1991 with Walter Cronkite? That's the documentary I grew up with until Walking With Dinosaurs came out and it's still my absolute favourite dino documentary.
Thanks for uploading this! 👍🏻I didn't know there was that much lost pilot footage, I only saw snippets during the making of walking with dinosaurs 21 years ago.
It was actually a quadrilogy.. Walking With Dinosaurs, Walking With Beasts, Walking With Cavemen, and then Walking With Monsters which came way later down the road.. 🦋
6 minutes in late 1990s CGI is *fucking forever* , so I would argue that it is entirely possible the entirety of that was just touched up to be the actual Cruel Seas episode.
