Here's for my beautiful eyes, taken from us on August 14th. I'd thought I'd sort of moved on or reconstructed my life until I heard this song, so much of our life together. We were only married 29 years; a lifetime for so many, so short to Margaret and me. Loved and missed by all who knew, her, met her and spoke to her. Oh she had the prettiest eyes to behold by anybody. Dedicated to Margaret Ellen Roberts, loved by all, missed by everybody. XXX
My Mum loves this song.... she was well into her 60s when it came out.... and she went and bought their albums after I played them to her! Every time I hear it I think of her. Beautiful!

I have just looked at the crows feet on the prettiest eyes she smiled and asked what am I looking at, I said you my beautiful soulmate of the past 40 years, love you girl.
My bf played this to me b4 he died in 2001....I cant stop playing it. It was 13yrs ago now..He played all your songs but this he played the most...I dont have the most beautiful eyes..they're green brown...but he thought they were beautiful. Thank you AJD..I will remember you always..my soul mate..xx
Christina Gough, Beautiful Eyes are not just the colour of your eyeball but around and above your eyes is where beauty lies. Is what this song tries to say.
Christina Gough Oh sweetie you just made me cry. I lost my partner in '94 and got this album around that time. He had HAZEL eyes like yours. He thought they were like swamps I thought they were simply beautiful, he was also my soul mate..hard for anyone to match them huh? :/
Christina Gough O my word, I have just been commenting to try and get people to change how we look with "selfies" on all social sites, plus dating (I am on on one) and all that rubbish and actually look at the person....the soul is the eyes, and I don't normally comment....you have brought tears to my eyes Christina. I send you love to carry on....life is so incredibly cruel. Jan x

The Beautiful South are most probably one of the best British bands of the last 50 years and definitely don't get the credit they deserve, awesome band, awesome song writers, they compare to Lennon and McCartney for chart success and personally I'd rank them up there with The Stone Roses!
I used to sing this to a girl that I loved more than I could ever have dreamed. She was perfect in every way. I so wish things had turned out differently. For both of us. I will regret to my dying day that I didn't marry her ....
I've been singing this since it's release... I met a girl 18 years ago She was looking through my cds and said who are these.... I sang this too her and she loved it I've only just remembered as my wife is looking over smiling at me while I sit here with headphones on listen g to old tunes while she's on Netflix
Wish i could do duet with paul. Hes class x as are all involved in beautiful south so much talent originality and pure innovation these sublime Northerners😍
Many below have said it before me but it's true...this is one of the most beautiful and honest love songs ever. I adore it so much!!!!! I have loved P Heaton ever since the Housemartins! One of Britains best song writers!
jade harley 24 years ago I first heard this on the piped in Muzak where I worked, loved it but thought it was called crash of a frown, twenty four years later...found it!!!!
Mentioning the "4th of July" is all the more clever/intersting coming from a band that's so distinctly British. It'd be kind of like an American referencing "Boxing Day" in a song...
Achingly beautiful - a deep and meaningful love song, written by one of music's most underrated wordsmiths. I love the idea that each facial line represents a happy memory, and celebrates ageing and meaningful companionship, rather than lamenting it. My wife and I are now both in our 60s, but this has been "our" song for many, many years. She still smiles every time the last verse puts tears in my eyes........

That's a dream show! What I wouldn't give...
Line one is the time
That you, you first stayed over at mine
And we drank our first bottle of wine
And we cried
Line two we're away
And we both, we both had nowhere to stay
Well the bus-shelter's always OK
When you're young
Now you're older and I look at your face
Every wrinkle is so easy to place
And I only write them down just in case
That you die
Let's take a look at these crows feet, just look
Sitting on the prettiest eyes
Sixty 25th of Decembers
Fifty-nine 4th of Julys
Not through the age or the failure, children
Not through the hate or despise
Take a good look at these crows feet
Sitting on the prettiest eyes
Line three I forget
But I think, I think it was our first ever bet
And the horse we backed was short of a leg
Never mind
Line four in a park
And the things, the things that people do in the dark
I could hear the faintest beat of your heart
Then we did
Now you're older and I look at your face
Every wrinkle is so easy to place
And I only write them down just in case
You should die
Lets take a look at these crows feet, just look
Sitting on the prettiest eyes
Sixty 25th of Decembers
Fifty-nine 4th of Julys
You can't have too many good times, children
You can't have too many lines
Take a good look at these crows feet
Sitting on the prettiest eyes
Well my eyes look like a map of the town
And my teeth are either yellow or they're brown
But you'll never hear the crack of a frown
When you are here
You'll never hear the crack
Of a frown
Brilliant :)
thanks
